The African Museum in Lyon was founded in 1863 by the African Missions Society. The museum invites visitors to discover the cultural links between Africa and Europe, taking an anthropological and aesthetic approach.
Some 2100 works and objects are exhibited over three floors. These explore the daily lives, and the social and religious aspects of communities in sub-Saharan West Africa. The works on display bear witness to the vitality of African peoples and cultures, both past and present.
