Located in South London, Brixton is a multicultural district which is home to a large Jamaican, African and Caribbean community. Its history has been difficult at times, with riots, poverty and high levels of unemployment; the Clash even wrote a song called Guns Of Brixton. Today, the district where David Bowie was born is famous for its record shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and clubs.
But it's really Brixton Market which is the beating heart of this neighbourhood. Go for a stroll through the market and be prepared for a whirlwind of sights and smells: this is the largest Caribbean market in Europe. Next, head to the beautifully restored covered indoor market, which is now home to many buzzing cafes and restaurants. There are numerous works of street art to be found throughout the vibrant neighbourhood of Brixton.
