From Monday, March 26 2018 to Wednesday, March 28 2018
During the six years that separate the St John Passion from the St Matthew Passion, Bach continued to expand his musical experience and added a host of innovations to his second great work.
He gave the work more depth by adding a third choir and made the recitatives more varied.
Bach's masterpiece brings to a close, or very nearly, the long list of Passions throughout the history of the music. With a few exceptions, those which were written after him were no longer Passions in the the Liturgical sense, as Bach intended, but oratorios.
