When you hear the name Vivaldi, one work immediately comes to mind: The Four Seasons. This set of concertos for violin is in fact the most well-known work by the Italian composer.
Why is it so successful? Probably because the description of the seasons is something which affects everyone, as they watch the seasons change through the course of the year. But this would probably not be enough to explain the success were it not for Vivaldi’s musical talent: his music, which is very accessible yet very complex, vibrant yet full of contrasts, generally has an immediate effect on the listener.
