Events and festivals

From Sunday, December 31 2017 to Monday, January 1 2018

On the last day of the year, the Scottish capital goes wild.

New Year's Eve starts with light: locals walk through the city carrying torches, to the sound of drums and bagpipes. Then there's a fire under Edinburgh Castle, with a concert featuring DJ's and rock bands until the end of the night.
There's singing and dancing, and a few wee drams of the national drink, whisky.
On 1 January the crazy celebrations continue with Loony Dook, where people jump in the Firth of Forth, in South Queensferry. To make it even more crazy, some people throw themselves in the water in fancy dress; and despite the nearly freezing water, kilts are very popular.

From Sunday 31 December 2017 to Monday 1 January 2018 :
- Sunday from 17:00 to 03:00
- Monday doors open at 07:00
