Formerly known as the Scottish National Zoological Park, Edinburgh Zoo opened in 1913 in the Scottish capital. With its location high up on Corstophine Hill, the residents of Edinburgh Zoo have a fine view over the city.
Belonging to the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, a scientific association which aims to promote and support the study of zoology and the development of public interest in animals, a visit to Edinburgh Zoo is a fun and informative affair, suitable for all the family. On your visit to the zoo, you will encounter a huge number of different species from all around the world.
Edinburgh Zoo is involved in many causes, including participating in the captive breeding of endangered species. It was the first zoo in the world to breed penguins and the only zoo in the UK to house giant pandas and koalas.
