After several difficult years, especially in the early 2000s and only the wooden spoon (no wins) to show for themselves during the 2003 Six Nations tournament, the Welsh returned to the forefront in 2005 when, to everyone's surprise, they won the Grand Slam. With a dynamic and sustained game, Wales seemed set to once more become a force to be reckoned with in Europe.
But the 15 had trouble confirming and didn't win a single match in the following two tournaments. Still, the Welsh have character and intend to reassert themselves on the world rugby stage. They won the Grand Slam in brilliant style again in 2008, silencing those who saw the 2005 win as a fluke.
Wales remains a dangerous and unpredictable team and they will make every effort to do better than last year (fourth with three wins).
