Plaza de Mayo is one of the most emblematic and recognisable images of Buenos Aires. As the central hub of the city, it was here that the first Spanish colonies were established and it's still an important gathering point for the city's inhabitants.
The square occupies an area of two hectares, and is bordered by symbolic buildings and monuments. It has been the stage for many a historical event, including the May revolution (1810).
