The house-museum of the collector Fernández Blanco operated in an informal way since 1910. It then received the title of the first private museum in Argentina.
In 1947 the Museo de Arte Hispanoamericano Isaac Fernández Blanco (the Isaac Fernández Blanco Hispanic-American Art Museum) moved to the neo-colonial Palacio Noel. The museum has now become the largest art museum devoted to the period of the viceroys throughout South America. It has a rich collection of silverware, religious and secular art, furniture, an art gallery and a specialist library.
The museum's gardens, of Spanish inspiration, provide the setting for an exotic stroll, unusual for the Retiro district of Buenos Aires.
