It was at the instigation of the government minister Bernardino Rivadavia, that the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales (Argentine Museum of Natural Sciences) first came into being in the nineteenth century. The museum occupied several locations before finally finding a permanent home in Centenario Park. The museum is devoted to the history of the flora and fauna of Argentina and is also the National Centre for the Investigation of Natural Sciences, and as such boasts an excellent science library.
