In this sumptuous neoclassical building in Heroes Square, visitors can admire art works from antiquity to the present day. The collection was based on a gift from the Archbishop Eger, László Pyrker, as well as on the Esterházy family's collection of paintings acquired by the state in 1870.
The Museum of Fine Art in Budapest boasts a rich collection of Egyptian, Roman, Greek and Italian art. The latter collection presents schools of painters from the twelfth to the eighteenth centuries. The Spanish collection includes seven paintings by El Greco.
