Constantin Meunier (1831 - 1905) was a painter and sculptor in Belgium, one who favoured realism and was an activist in labour union issues. He was a militant socialist and was known for his sculpture work on the Monument au Travail, in Brussels, an edifice dedicated to the cause. His home and workshop were transformed into a museum in 1939 and are today home to 150 works and documents dealing with the artist's life.
