All year long
Designed by André Waterkeyn for the 1958 International Exhibition and inaugurated on April 17th by King Baudouin I, the Brussels Atomium is an impressive monument. Halfway between sculpture and architecture, Waterkeyn's 100-metre-tall creation represents an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times!
With over 42 million visitors, Brussels' 1958 exhibition was the first of the post-war international exhibitions, and now Brussels boasts a permanent exhibition dedicated to the Atomium with documents, videos and various scale-models to illustrate its architectural principles.
The sphere above it offers a panoramic view over Brussels and beyond.
