All year long
Since July 2006 the city of Bordeaux has been able to boast of having the largest water mirror in the world (3,450 m2). Just in front of the Place de la Bourse, between the Quai de la Douane and the Quai Louis XVIII, this water mirror alternates the extraordinary effects of reflection in the surface of the water, and fog, releasing clouds of mist.
An enchanting creation designed by fountain specialist Jean-Max Llorca, the reflecting pool is the centerpiece of the river banks in Bordeaux, newly redeveloped by landscape architect Michel Corajoud. It works in the following cycle: 3 minutes to fill up, 15 minutes of mirror, 5 minutes to drain and 3 minutes of fog. Other cities in the world, including Quebec, have been considering designing a similar installation.
