The city of Bordeaux boasts over 347 listed buildings, so naturally the site has been recognized by the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO. Indeed, the urban and architectural unity of the historical centre of the city has been officially recognized since 2007.
Monuments and areas well worth exploring include the quays and the main boulevards, the Place de la Bourse, the Grand Theatre, the churches dedicated to St. Andrew, Seurin, Michel Pierre and Eloi, the Port de la Lune (Port of the Moon), the bridges and so on. Each monument tells the story of an episode in the city's history.
