Featuring on UNESCO's list of world heritage monuments since 1987, the famous Forbidden City in Beijing is an imperial palace which covers some 72,000m².
Today it also serves as a museum and houses a major testimony to the history of China with its imperial treasures.
It is still possible to contemplate not only the numerous wooden constructions in this prestigious setting but also the ramparts and ditches which have resisted all forms of attack for five centuries.
