Lying 80km to the south west of Bangkok (in the province of Ratchaburi), the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is without a doubt the largest and most famous market of its kind. This tourist market was recreated here in order to illustrate the great secular tradition of floating markets, a phenomenon that is becoming rarer in modern day Thailand. Wander along the banks of the Lat Phli canal or jump aboard with the merchants to witness first hand the amazing colours and smells of the market, the hustle and bustle as the boats come and go, loaded up with fruit and vegetables, spices, fresh flowers, and local crafts.
