Built in the 17th century as one of the largest places of worship for the Jewish community, the Portuguese Synagogue of Amsterdam largely escaped damage and restoration, retaining its period architecture.
Also known as the "Esnoga", the synagogue is one of the major tourist attractions in the Dutch capital. This building is one of the monuments built by the Sephardim in the Dutch Golden Age.
