Black Hat Wine Bar
Perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, Black Hat Wine Bar is a time portal from the present day to the ‘60s, just under a 10-minute drive away from Hotel Pullman Yangon Centrepoint.
The retro-style bar is lined with black-and-white photos of Yangon and images of famous Hollywood stars that beam down at you as you sip wine and snack on appetisers. Unwind to jazz music under Elvis’s gaze or turn your attention to classic movies projected on the wall behind the bar. Don’t be surprised by the formally dressed waiters, who serve patrons in black and white uniforms and — of course — a black hat.
Blind Tiger
If secret drinking dens and speakeasies are your poison of choice, then the Blind Tiger — an edgy, unpretentious speakeasy on Seik Kan Thar Road — is right up your alley.
Here you can savour an exceptional list of fusion cocktails, including a curry margarita and the Burmese mule, which features strawberry and chilli-infused vodka with fresh mangoes and egg whites. Pair them with inventive fusion snacks, such as green curry chicken wings and grilled pork neck salad.
Mr Guitar
Seeking a taste of the local music scene? Mr Guitar is the place to be.
Located on Sayasan Street, Mr Guitar is the go-to bar for music lovers and musicians alike, enjoying a cult status among music aficionados thanks to its owner, Nao Myo Say — a well-known local musician. Unsurprisingly, you can kick back to live music by an in-house band or hold your own in a karaoke session after you’ve filled up on liquid courage.
7th Joint Bar & Grill
Kosan Double Happiness Bar
Cheap beers and cocktails — most of Kosan’s patrons are sold at the mention of this (as were we). Located near the Chinese temple on 19th Street, this Yangon bar is easily accessible, making it popular with both locals and tourists. A stylish interior, friendly staff and great cocktails make this a night spot you simply can’t miss.
We’d recommend the Mandalay Rum mojitos. Thank us later!
