Exploring Saigon's Best Open Spaces

Tao Dan Park, Can Gio & Cong Vien Van Hoa Park

With a population of over 8 million, Saigon is a city that’s bursting with adventure and excitement on every corner. The downside however to all this hustle and bustle is that your options can seem a little limited if you’re looking to unwind.

parks in saigon

That said, there are still places where you can regain your energy and get away from the crowded streets – even somewhere as busy as Ho Chi Minh City!

Read on for a list of Saigon’s most secluded spots to sit back, unwind and even enjoy an al fresco meal:

Tao Dan Park

Located at the very heart of the city, Tao Dan Park is one of the most accessible parks in Ho Chi Minh City.

The park is beautifully planned, and filled with winding pathways, numerous ponds, and carefully maintained gardens. A beautiful sculpture garden and gorgeous Art Deco style buildings surrounding the open space also contribute to the park’s special atmosphere.

30/4 Park

Located in District 1 of the city, 30/4 park was originally designed as a private pleasure park for the then French ruling elite. Thankfully, it’s now opened up to the public and has become a gathering point for people from all walks of life.

Relax and unwind in the park’s green open space and prepare for an hour or two of people watching, or break a sweat with the locals on the extensive array of outdoor exercise equipment.

Can Gio National Park

If you're looking for a relaxing space that's a little further out from the city centre, Can Gio National Park is one of the most beautiful natural places that you’ll find in Vietnam - it’s a rugged and palm-fringed island at the mouth of Saigon River that houses some of the most diverse wildlife in the region.

The park is home tomore than 200 fauna species and 150 species of flora; a remarkable statistic considering the island only covers around 75,000 hectares. It’s no surprise then that Can Gio National Park is listed in the UNESCO’s biosphere reserve and holds status as one of the most important nature reserves in the country.

Getting to Can Gio from the capital is simple, with dozens of day trips leaving the city daily. Simply pick a time that suits your schedule, and prepare to have your jaw hit the floor upon seeing Can Gio National Park in all its glory!
