Camberwell is a buzzy pocket of South London, home to a University of the Arts London campus and grassy Camberwell Green Park. It’s easy to get here from Central London, making Camberwell an excellent base for exploring the city.

It's around 30 minutes from Central London to Camberwell by bus, so this is one of the easiest ways to get here if you don't want to walk.
Historically, Camberwell was a village associated with the Church of St Giles, stretching back to 1086 when Ca'brewelle is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The area became popular with residents in the 18th century, with wealthy Londoners attracted to its fresh air and clean water. Today, the London neighbourhood is home to a University of the Arts Campus, so it's no surprise the area is famous as an artistic hub. Its artsy residents mean Camberwell offers many unique things to do, including independent coffee shops, bars and restaurants you won't find anywhere else.
