There will be a buzz in the air as Dubai once again prepares to be the thrilling hosting destination for the biggest and the most anticipated tournament in the Tennis world – the 2017 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship, which will run February 19 - March 4, at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium in Garhoud.
From humble beginnings to reaching exhilarating heights
There are few events in the tennis world that can match the popularity of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, and this year marks the 25th anniversary of this grand spectacle that has grown into a competitive sports event of epic proportions. Owned and organised by Dubai Duty Free – one of the biggest travel retail operators in the world – and held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the championships has allotted a total of $5.2 million to the winners in their respective categories.
International tennis aces set to smash their way to glory
With a string of tennis heavyweights taking part in the championship series, including the newly knighted Andy Murray; 17-time grand slam winner and seven-time Dubai champion Roger Federer; and defending champion Stan Wawrinka, the tournament is the wildest and the most star-studded tennis event in the region.
Be in the middle of all the action and excitement
The Prime A seats on the baseline directly behind the players and the Grandstands are great spots. For the sake of clarity, the seating zones are categorized as follows:
Prime A Seats - the first two rows of seating around Centre Court located on the East and West stands and are on a first come first served basis
Prime B Seats – located in the North stand are also available on a first come, first served basis.
Grandstand Seats – located on East and West sides of the Centre Court high up the stadium.
Plenty of non-stop on-court action to catch and excitement to follow
With participation from some of the biggest names in women’s tennis, including the 2016 WTA Year-End World No.1 Singles Player Angelique Kerber and the 2012 Dubai Champion Agnieszka Radwanska, the WTA Premier 5 event will begin on the 19th of February and will entice tennis talents with a heavy prize money of $2.6 million. For those looking forward to watch an array of tennis talents in the men’s category in a round of what is known as the third highest tier of men’s tennis tournament, Dubai Men’s Open of the 2017 ATP World Tour 500 event will run from the 27th of February through the 4th of March, and will showcase a line-up of international tennis aces on the outer hard courts of the stadium. With only a few days left for the event, all hands are on deck to highlight the best the tournament can offer.
Entertainment off-the court as well
A host of fan-friendly off-court activities and events have been lined up for championship goers to enjoy around the grounds. Highlighting the off-court event is the Tennis Village, situated on the south side of the Centre Court, where visitors can take a tour of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships exhibition area and explore a range of products exhibited by sponsors of the tournament this year. Fans will also get a chance to be part of the player autograph sessions and photo opportunities on the venue. Surrounding the stadium is the hugely popular The Irish Village for those craving for a piece of Dublin and Century Village where championship goers can unwind and savour international cuisines.
