Rude staff and stolen belongings

TLTR: Rude staff, housekeeping staff stole belongings. Hostel staff stole personal items from everyone in my dormitory room! After our first day my group came back to find the housekeeping staff had completely cleared our room (we were there for 3 nights not just one). When we inquired at the front desk about our belongings the staff was rude and claimed there was nothing they could do. We spoke to multiple receptionists who accused us of lying to them, and claiming they didn’t know what T-Shirts and Socks were. Besides this the hostel had a very expensive tourist tax, City metro passes do not work from the nearest Metro station because the hostel is too far from city center. Lots and lots of teenagers running up and down the halls and most uncomfortable pillow/bed I have slept on in European hostels. My own experience but know before you go.

I stayed here in December 2023 for 5 nights and chose this hostel because of the affordability. It worked out about £30 per night, location was actually just on the border of zone 1-2 in Gentilly RER station which was very convenient because it was few minutes walk to the hostel, but it was easily accessible to the centre of Paris and the attractions. There was also a nice bakery between the hostel and Gentilly station and I often had a nice croissant enroute to the city of Paris lol. I had arrived quite early but the room was not ready to check in until the afternoon so I stored my luggage in the storage room. Since I had already paid for my stay, I thought it would be free to store my luggage, until I found out that there was a charge to store luggage before check in if room wasn't ready. Also another charge to store on check out too. I didn't have any other option as I didn't want to drag a suitcase around with me so I paid the €5 on check in and check out. I did find the storage lockers was bit confusing to use as initially I couldn't open them after I had paid but just ask the staff who will gladly assist you. When I had checked into my room, I paid for a private cabin room with queen sized bed rather than the shared hostel dorm bed options as I like my privacy. When I got to my floor, I liked the lights in the corridors but I got confused with the room numbers and I thought I couldn't find my cabin, so went back to reception for a member of staff to show me. Turns out I was actually on the right floor but I was on 4th floor, room number 410, I thought the room numbers would be in hundred digits so was looking for 400 but the number on the door said 9-12 lol. Anyway, I found my room. I had to enter with a keycard entry through one main door to your section, then to a second door to your actual cabin. When I entered my private cabin, it was clean, small but still enough space to store my medium luggage and rucksack. Prior to arriving, I was undecided whether to bring my smaller cabin case or medium case but took the risk of bringing the medium case, luckily it fit in the cabin. The bathroom and toilets was shared, clean and nicely decorated with cool illustrations. I was quite surprised with the availability of showers and toilets and it was almost empty when I needed to use them so I didn't have to wait around. This is quite a social hostel as they have a bar, social area in the reception and sometimes with live music on the weekends. When I went back to my room, I was quite surprised with the soundproofing as I did not hear any loud music in my hub. I noticed they gave you a bedsheet on the bed which I was quite surprised as I wasn't expecting to make my own bed in an accommodation lol but I guess you get what you pay for. The beds was like a thick mattress foam with leather-like covering but that wasn't an issue as I just covered the mattress with the given bedsheet and I still slept well. Wifi worked well in the cabins and reception. Towels was not included but I was already aware of this and bought my own towel anyway but shampoo and soap was included in the showers. Overall, I had a good stay, if you are on a budget, simply need somewhere to sleep and prefer to save your money on exploring Paris then this will be a good option for you.

There were bedbox and the rooms quite dirty. The staff though super kind and the vibe also very good made the journey good despise the cleaning ness and the animals.

Poor cleaningness. Extremly expensive for a hostel. Stuff very kind. Entertainment quite poor. It could be done for the guests, rather than the invited artists playing only for the friends they bring along. Entertainment is a still a job.
