Ok, lighting is not great in my room When I checked in I was given a room, when I checked if this room was near my friend’s (I had requested this when booking on the telephone) it transpired that I also had a room booking opposite her, if I hadn’t checked I would have been charged for two rooms as there were two in my name.... I had only booked one room

I think your hotel is better than the Ramada across the road. My only complaint was the people in the adjoining room were a little bit noisy and the apple juice dispenser at breakfast was clogged up. But those are trivial in the scheme of things and overall I am very satisfied. Thank you to the staff who were all very helpful and professional.

The room was comfortable but there were some irritations. The bed was comfortable but the room itself was inadequately lit and the key card frequently failed to function necessitating long walks to reception. Food was generally good. Staff were friendly and helpful. The bar is pricey and inadequately staffed. Service therefore slow.

I was staying as part of the British Fencing Veterens team but was charged £198 for two nights without breakfast, whereas my colleauge who checked in at the same time, was charged £3160 including breakfast. When I queried this, Sam, on reception, reluctantly said that was wrong but couldnt refund me so gave me a voucher for two drinks. This is not acceptable and I'd like a refund of the difference.

The staff were extremely friendly and efficient, the room was of a high standard however the black out curtains left a lot to be desired. Having large glowing balls outside the window and a gap at the top of the curtains meant the room was suffused with light throughout the night. The evening meal was value for money and the vegetables were cooked to just the right consistency.

Claims to be extensively refurbished but isn't

I have stayed at this hotel a lot when it was a Park Inn so I know what it looked like before and after. The claims of 'extensively refurbished' when it became a Mercure brand are basically lies. The main changes are that the rooms have a new mattress, the walls have been painted, new TVs have been installed (with the same limited channels), some sockets swapped for USB charge points, and that is about it. The rooms still have the same windows which have been there for 20 years, which are not double glazed and with the catches often damaged and hard to open. Carpets unchanged, room furniture unchanged, bathroom unchanged, gym unchanged, and the general décor throughout is equally unchanged. There is also no air conditioning in the rooms I have stayed in, which makes summer visits challenging, especially if your room faces the sun. Room fans are offered instead. Breakfast has been poor for many years. I stay in other hotels a lot so I know what a good hotel breakfast looks like, and this isn't it. All that is not to say it isn't an acceptable hotel for a 3*, because it is largely OK for an overnight stay. The staff do what they can to make your stay pleasant. However it is not a great hotel and could have been made much better if the penny pinching accountants hadn't messed things up.

Our stay was fine, although it was overshadowed by a couple of other very upset guests who had been double booked and had no rooms - It did not directly involve us, but they were very vocal for about two hours in their complaint to reception and in the bar. Hotel staff seemed powerless to resolve the issue and the noise could be heard in the bar and restaurant, which was quite stressful! The rooms were good (recently refurbished) and parking was easy. Our experience of reception staff was also good. The restaurant was chaotic - there were only two staff (one of which also staffed the bar). The restaurant was nowhere near full, but service was terrible - a long wait to be seated and when it came, the food was just adequate. When we came to settle the bill on the following morning, our dinner was not shown on the bill. I queried this and after a bit of a wait, a manager came to see us and traced our bill - which had wrongly been put on another room. We then paid our bill (some kind of goodwill gesture for our honesty would have been nice.....) Overall just an ok experience - dont think we'll be going back.

Very courteous & friendly staff, clean comfy room & good facilities for the convention I was attending. Excellent food, even though I'm coeliac & can't tolerate gluten. It's a shame that GF awareness has not extended to the bar (you're by no means alone in this). I could not get a glass of GF ale! Bottled GF beers are not hard to get hold of these days & it would have been nice to be able to have a couple in the evening. I enjoyed your house wine but wine doesn't always cut it. Not a major complaint in a very pleasent stay, just an "it would be nice if..."

My experience is generally great, the staff are always very friendly to me and try their best to make my experience brilliant. However a few things let the side down: 1) The window outside my room drips and makes a noise when it rains 2) The points scheme is only just starting meaning months of lots rewards, I used to be a platinum member with Raddisson, now I am nothing 3) the restraunt prices are too high, I now have to use my own money to have a three course meal (although the food is nice) The fixes would be: 1) To reward the loyal Fujitsu people with a bonus of points or status to achknowledge their commitment to staying at the hotel despite the issues over the last few months. 2) Fix the dripping problem 3) Lower the restraunt prices or offer a 20% discount to Fujitsu people that stay regularly to make them feel special

I only stopped 1 night this week. told points scheme had now started at last, but none credited as reception staff did not know how to do the credit. As it was only 1 night i paid on arrival, but the next morning i still did not have an invoice. I had to chase reception only to be advised the account was not closed off properly the night before.
