The staff were lovely b our room was freezing. The hotel did supply us with a fan heater for the room. The pool and the gym were adequate but the Jacuzzi was freezing and it would've ben nice to have comfortable loungers to relax around the pool if warm enough. The function room was cold and room service was advertised as 24 hours yet when we tried to order Saturday evening we were told that there was not enough staff on to deliver that service. The member of staff at breakfast was lovely and there was a good selection.

Window leaking and when I asked for it to be mopped up, I was told that the staff could not do anything about the winows. So I asked for some paper towel and a fabric towel, I cleaned up the brown water and put the towel on the windowsill to catch the drips. The next day I thought that the cleaner's would change the towel, but when we arrived back the smell in the room was very musty, so I went to reception for a clean towel, to get told that I should not have to clean up the water and was offered a different room, but as I only had 2 nights left, I could not be bothered in packing up to move rooms, so I cleaned up the water. Then we noticed that the cups in our room had not been washed, so I went to reception and was given an apology and some clean cups. The next day when we arrived back to the room, it had not been cleaned at all, the beds had not been done, the bins had not been emptied and once again we came back to a musty room. I complained at reception and Vanesa was very apologetic and was mortified at the problems that we had been thought. That evening after dinner my daughter become very ill with a virus, and we had an ambulance out to see her, which is why we knew it was a virus, did see pick it up somewhere when we were out. As the only place we went for the 2 days was my 93 year old mother and she was not ill. So maybe she picked up some bug from cleaning up the brown water from the windowsill. We left the next morning, with the cleaner's knocking on the door, but as they had not cleaned the morning before and we had had a very late night waiting for the ambulance, they had to wait for us to leave. I have stayed with you at least 5 times in the past, and each time has been a bit worse than the last. Not sure I will stay with you anymore.

The room was good size and clean. The staff was very friendly. The bed was a little "mushy" for us, and we would have preferred having a top sheet in addition to just the duvet/sheet combination. It was pretty cold when there and the heat did not work very well. Had a very hard time getting it to respond and rise above 19.7. Our daughter was in separate room and we asked 4 ties over a period of 6 days to get her broken TV fixed..it never was addressed, not good.

I had to move rooms twice due to various faults and a leak. My final 3rd room was comfortable although the AC display could not be read. Breakfast was disappointing and the leaflet on the door handle (clearly a standard mercure publication) bore little relation to the breakfast choices on offer in St Helens. Plus it quoted different times to those that this hotel operates. All Staff were always friendly, polite & helpful in trying to solve the technical difficulties and failings of the building. Regarding breakfast I found out on day 3 that made to order eggs etc were available but this option was not offered or made clear to me on arrival at breakfast. And the breakfast was a very poor relation of standard breakfasts offered in other mercures that I have stayed in (Exeter & Bristol) with the cheapest bread being offered for toast, sad croissants & only 3 very poor types of cereal - cornflakes, rice krispies & cocoa pops.

Staff were very friendly and the check in / our process was smooth as always. Room was in great condition, no complaints. Service at the bar/restaurant was a little slow but I assume there were not many people on duty, due to the xmas period

Although we had booked a suite on checking in we were advised our room had been given to someone else. How can you give a booked room to someone else? We didn’t arrive late & had not indicated we would not be checking in. We were offered a standard room-we booked a suite as that was what we wanted-it was Christmas & our daughter was getting married-we wanted extra space. We’re at a loss to understand how you could give a booked room away!

Very poor - hotel room was freezing! This was our third stay in two months (?) and on each occasion the heating in the room did not work. We complained on each occasion and the last time were given a small fan heater! We were told - "management are aware there is a maintenance issue but are NOT prepared to do anything about it" !!

The hotel reception was extremely cold and to our surprise, so was the room. We tried adjusting the air con, but nothing happened. We reported this to reception, who told us there was an issue with the heating and said we could have a small electric heater. This was provided, but took some time to heat the room. Breakfast was available until 9.30, however, when we arrived for breakfast there was one Carbonised sausage left, the food in the warming trays was luke warm and water poured off the lids when accessing the food.

The hotel was very cold and the room was even colder. The reception should have told me that there was a problem with the heating oin the evening and should have offered a portable heater rather than ME having to ask for one. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet but the decor was very dated. On arrival I was not offered the usual free drink. The female server in the bar was unfriendly and abrupt.

I had a nice room. The equipment was clean and in a good condition. The personal was friendly and helpful. The only drawback for me was the temperature in the hotel. I had only 17 to 18 degree in my room. This issue prevented any cosiness. I dont know whether the heating was broken or just so weak in general. I strongly recommend to fix it asap. The hotel was cold. My room (323) was 16C and the heating did not work. I told reception and they said there was not a problem so I waited 30 minutes and then they gave me a plug-in heater when the room was still freezing. I went back up to the room and the key card didn't work anymore so I had to go back down to reception to get a new one. My business colleagues also had a very cold room (326) and needed an electric heater. In the morning the water pressure in the shower was intermittent and sometimes was a weak dribble. The window in room 323 is 100% obscured by dirt, it is impossible to see anything outside. When I returned from breakfast at 9.40 am my key card didn't work again and nor did the key card of my colleagues. The TV remote control in my room was very strange, for example to adjust the volume you needed to press the channel +/- control. Other buttons had no function at al.
