Excellent stay. Won't hesitate to return

David H Family - 21/08/2019 TripAdvisor review

We have stayed in Sheffield for over 40 years for family visits. This was for a wedding at nearby Halifax Hall. Can honestly say our 3 night stay with breakfast was great. Slight niggles would be parking in the dark, a little lighting would help. Also on morning 2 breakfast was incredibly busy and our order was forgotten. But the variety and quality of food on offer more than adequate. Room comfortable clean and great shower. Got a really good deal. Much much better than other hotels I. Sheffield. So glad we didn't stay at Halifax Hall as many others did. Not a patch on our hotel. Deffo be back and soon

Not Mercure standard hotel

Lack of staff available. Reception too busy for one person. Queues building, no further staff assisting. Bedrooms dirty, not ready for guests. Both rooms offered not clean. Lack of toiletries in room, insects in room. Very poor hotel for Mercure brand.

A very pleasant stay

We had a splendid room overlooking a large pond. Food and service in the bar was great. The hotel is located in a quiet road so there is no noise at night. Parking was easy, free and safeA very pleasant stay.

All the team were very pleasant. Had 3 rounds of drinks in the bar all came out at different prices! 2 x double gins and lemonade £19.50 - same again with crisps £13.50 - 2 x double gins and lemonade £20.40. We were upgraded on arrival, much appreciated. Had room with 2 x kingsize beds, separate rooms but only one remote for 2 TVs. Not life and death but may be something to look into. Shower needs upgrading. Meal and breakfast very good.

Great service, facilities and surroundings and real value for money.

An oasis near the centre of Sheffield. You could be in the middle of the countryside. I have stayed at this hotel many times over the years on both business and pleasure and have always been impressed. The rooms are large, well appointed and spotlessly clean. One of our party made use of the leasure facilities that are complimentary for guests. Breakfast selection plentiful and of good quality. Staff helpful and responsive to any requests made.

Visited Sheffield for a climbing experience with adventure expertise. The hotel was very near to the meeting point and offered us all we needed. Great accommodation, excellent breakfast and pool and spa.

Awful

Very poor grubby dirty rooms, leak outside room door with a terrible smell. Bathroom bath panel cracked with mould & blood on the back of the door. No iron or hairdryer. No manager available. 12 rooms booked in total for wedding guests & more than half had unacceptable rooms. Our daughter was the newly married couple & they were booked into a room that someone was already sleeping in & walked in on them.......

Average at best

Last minute stop in for a Night due to business For Myself and Girlfriend. Stayed here once before and was altogether impressed with the room and facilities. Unfortunately couldn't say the same This time round. Room was very basic, the bathroom had hairs all over the floor as well as Mould... The shower didn't work, Room service never answered the phone so ended Up going to Reception to order... Very Noisy placement of room - could Hear nearly Everyone Walking Past.Mentioned this to the check out staff who was lovely but didn't catch the hint that I wasn't happy...

Bad customer service. Dated room with broken locks and gaping wholes in windows. A shocking hotel!

I stay at this hotel regularly, and this was not a good experience to be honest. Given a room with 2 single beds, not a double room as booked. Next to a loud I presume generator room or something, really noisy. Not the cleanest bathroom either. Tried phoning reception, no answer. No coffee except decaf on tea tray. Room looked tired but that’s fine. When I checked in the receptionist said “thanks for being an Accor member” which was a nice touch....shame that didn’t translate to a decent room. Needed an invoice in the morning but nobody on reception (this happens a lot in the morning). Would have mentioned issues with stay but nobody there to tell. Had to just leave keycard at desk.

Moved rooms - no cot

G W. Families - 14/08/2019 AccorHotels review

We arrived later in the day and were told we had been moved rooms to a room with a pull out single bed instead of a cot for our 5 month old baby. I had rang on three occasions prior to the stay to make sure a cot would be in the room. I emailed customer services about this and have had no reply

Disappointed that " Special" rate was misleading- should be made clear that this does not mean preferential.

Hugh Couples - 13/08/2019 AccorHotels review

I had stayed at the hotel 12 or so years ago and really enjoyed it, was looking forward to the stay with my wife. Parking I remember before was a problem and that hadn't changed, but I managed to squeeze in. Reception was deserted as we waited for a member of staff. There was a wedding reception, but the hotel seemed to be understaffed to deal with both that and other guests. The staff were cheerful, but seemed badly led. Communication seemed a problem as staff flitted from one job to another - very easy to get forgotten. Our room was tired but that is ok, however it smelt strongly of smoke - a previous smoking occupant? I really hate that. To add to this, the room TV kept pixelating, trying to get the signal. The wi-fi, even with the codes provided, was very slow. Clearly you have an IT communications/technology problem. A member of your staff admitted this and stated we were not the only ones! We did complain, but was told the hotel was fully booked. It felt like take it or leave it and having just driven 6 hours to get to you, I didn't fancy taking my chances!! We used the pool which looked like a bomb had hit it. Towels everywhere, the jacuzzi surround was broken and it felt dirty. Only one poor member of staff who was apologising, as there had been a large group in the pool a little earlier and she hadn't had the time to clear up. We had noticed a sign in the lift saying the restaurant was closed for the wedding, fair enough and we could eat in the bar. We arrived in the bar which was chaotic due to the wedding. We asked for a menu and were told the kitchen was closed at 9.30pm. We had noted in your booklet in the room (which was rather dog-eared and tatty), that last food orders were actually at 10pm. We gave up with the bar staff and frankly there was nowhere to comfortably eat anyway and so talked to the receptionist. She took our order confirming the kitchen times and we would have our meal in our room. It arrived and was fine. We had ordered sandwiches, but nowhere on the menu did it state a huge portion of chips was part of the meal. Great, no complaints there, but I'd ordered a side of chips as well at some vast price and no one advised us. Loads of chips wasted. The drinks were fine. Breakfast was a little disappointing. I have stayed in several Mercure hotels and really like the brand. Why is the breakfast in France so much better than in the UK? I was amused to see printed on the menu freshly prepared fruits - as the grapefruit segments and mandarin oranges were clearly tinned, I presume this meant the tin had been freshly opened!! Seriously I hate giving a bad review, preferring to sort the problem out there and then, but no management seemed to be available. I was given my bar drinks as complimentary, which I accepted as they were offered in good faith. I gather there is a new general manager who is getting to grips with various issues, especially IT. I share your TripAdvisors/Web reviews who praise the staff as friendly and helpful, but no one really seemed in control and they lurched from one problem to another. On a positive note to end, I popped into another Mercure, a new build to the South of Sheffield, and the staff, food and drink were excellent. The duty manager was very obvious and extremely efficient, cleaning, tidying, serving customers and even changed the TV channel as I was on my own in the bar and he offered me a sport channel. Now that is service, great job!

We paid more for a suite, the room was a little dated and soft bed, and the mini fridge was very noisy, but a comfortable stay.

Jean Couples - 12/08/2019 AccorHotels review

We paid for an upgrade which was nice with gowns, slippers and drinks. Hotel setting beautiful as always and very handy for Sheffield City. We have visited several times since Mercure have taken over the hotel and thought the standards were high. However our stay was marred by our return to the bar area (about 9.30pm midweek) to find every table dirty with either dishes from bar food, drinks or stains. I tried several of the bar seat areas and could not find one clean. We eventually chose a less grubby area and had our last drink of the evening but did not really enjoy it. The bar area is a central feature of the hotel and should be a 'showcase'. The bar was not busy at the time, there was ourselves and one other person. The staff were not busy and were talking at the bar. No one came to clean up or tidy up while we were drinking our night cap. I wanted to get a cloth and do it myself!

Lovely sunday lunch to celebrate 80th Birthday

Karen Families - 12/08/2019 AccorHotels review

We arranged an 80th Birthday party lunch at the Kenwood. Georgia was very helpful on the Events Team. Although, despite giving her a table plan for the party, the restaurant team didn't seem to have received it and I had to ask them to re-arrange the table. However the lunch went very well, the food was lovely and the service excellent. We will definitely return, thankyou

A great stay for a 60th Birthday treat with friends.

M. H. Friends - 11/08/2019 AccorHotels review

We came as group of 10 friends and overall had a really good time. Our rooms were nicely decorated and very big because we were all given privilege ones instead of the standard rooms that I had booked. The food at the evening meal was very nice as was the buffet breakfast. We all enjoyed walking round the beautiful grounds and some of us managed a swim in the morning. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. There was, however, one little glitch which I discovered the day after we got home; one of the couples had been charged for their stay when they shouldn't have because I had settled the bill for everyone when we checked in. Fortunately this was settled quite quickly after I rang the hotel to explain what had happened and the receptionist who dealt this was most apologetic - just a pity that our guests then knew how much their treat had cost! All-in-all my husband had a lovely 60th Birthday and this would not stop us from returning again.
