Lynn Families - 08/10/2019 AccorHotels review

Wonderful - we requested a top floor lakeside apartment and even though we arrived at midnight, one had been set aside for us. Front desk staff very courteous and helpful, as was the cleaning staff. The only thing that was not provided but should be is towels and wash cloth in kitchen - or at least a roll of paper towels

Dear Lynn l., We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Peppers Queenstown Beacon. It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback. I will share your comments with our team. I am sure that this feedback will serve as an encouragement to all of our staff as we strive to continuously improve the quality of our services. We asked the desk to book a table at Botswana restaurant for our last evening in Queenstown. An evening we were all looking forward to. Verdict Massive failure! We booked an event. The event organisers rang the hotel to change the time due to being extremely busy. Peppers front desk failed to notify our group. We arrived and waited aimlessly at the prearranged time and there was no one to meet us for over an hour. We booked and paid nearly 6 months in advance requested front rooms. On arrival our request was ignored and the room we were allocated looked into the delivery dock and garbage room of the QT hotel next door. It was the second stay at Peppers for our family and 3rd stay 5 weeks in total with next year looking like another two suites possibly 3 suites for 7 days being booked. We will consider alternative accommodation due to Peppers very poor attention to return business clientele.

Kia Ora Dean, Thank you for your detailed review. We are sorry your stay at Peppers did not meet your expectations. Regarding your booking at Botwana Butchery, the booking had been made for you at your original requested time however unfortunely the resturaunt was booked out when you called us to change the time for your seating. Our team tried their best in booking another resturaunt for your evening. As for the event you are referring to, please feel free to give us more information regarding the issue and we would like to ensure this doesnt happen again. I deeply apologise for the issues you ran into during your stay, and we would love to have the opportunity to better serve you in the future. Kind Regards, The Peppers Beacon Team

Safety

Customer review rating 4.1/5

Leisa T. Families - 07/10/2019 AccorHotels review

You had exposed wires on a lamp and a exposed & damaged switch in the 2nd bed. These were both significant safety concerns for families so we flagged at the time. Very concerning for a Peppers resort. In addition, the carpet has stretched and is a trip hazard and the fake leather chairs were covered in smeared chocolate from a previous guest. Poor cleaning and safety but good view. Not suitable for young families or disabled guests in current condition.

We enjoyed our first time staying at Peppers Beacon, the location is great and the short walk to the town centre is very pleasant. We found the staff all pleasant and helpful, and the housekeeping really good. However: This hotel could do with some maintenance. I have read other reviews mention the peeling paint, shabby appearance and general wear and tear around the complex which has not been attended to. Time to spend some money and fix these things. I wouldn’t let my home get like this and I don’t expect to stay in accommodation that has been neglected when I’m on holiday. On that basis I probably wouldn’t return.

First impressions were good. Checked in by a well dressed Trainee who missed a few things. Like we didn't get our vouchers. (For free coffee/hot chocolate, we had to ask for them. Immaculate apartment. Several malfunctioning things, combined with contracting sicknesses made it a poor holiday. We told staff the hotel room was too cold. They informed us there is "subtle underfloor heating". Upon a freezing night, waking with rigors, we called staff again about the heating. They then discovered that the under floor heating was not turned on. Most switches were behind furniture and we had not been informed of where to turn it on. The room came with one gas heater and one oil heater which did not suffice the three bedroom apartment. The gas heater also turned off no matter how many times we tried to turn the "timer" off. We then had to ask for 2 further oil heaters which were perfect. But it was a lot of messing around to get to this point. TV was not working upon arrival. Had a person come back multiple times. Issue was resolved by them saying "If you point the remote control at the back of the tv around here, click it a few times and it will work". - Seriously?! In the end my husband fixed it as he is an electrician. However, there were several times when the tv did not work and would not play. We did not bother to ask for help again as the first request had taken several hours of coming and going with no improvement. The toaster burnt the toast regardless of what setting the toaster was on, it would not pop the bread up. We were fortunate not to set off the smoke alarms! In the end we ended up asking for a new toaster, which we got. We had an evacuation at 6pm. We were all sick and tossed out into the cold, we asked if we could be informed when we would be able to return. We were not contacted. We had to call the hotel, where upon we were diverted to another hotel and they found out for us if we could go back or not. There should have been a better notification system in place.

Room was lovely but neighboring room very noisy

Lori Solo - 03/10/2019 AccorHotels review

Peppers is a great location and my room was lovely but there was a door leading to another room which does not provide much noise protection from the adjoining room. I was there for a week and got woken most nights by the two different groups. One a small child crying and the second group very loud, noisy talkers, who kept trying to open the door.

Warren S. Couples - 02/10/2019 AccorHotels review

Stayed 2 nights. Great location and views, but had a number of issues that weren't resolved to my satisfaction. My shower leaked quite badly all over the bathroom floor. I reported this twice but it still wasn't fixed. This meant having to use all my towels to soak up the water. This was compounded by the fact that our room wasn't serviced until the late afternoon. We went out in the morning after breakfast and reported the issue, and when we came back late afternoon all our towels were still soaking up water on the floor, so we had to ask again, and for new towels. Another major issue was the heat in the room. We could not sleep as it was so hot and stuffy. We got told that someone would be up to ensure the underfloor heating was turned off. After being out and coming back, we rang to see if it had been actioned and they said yes it was. We said still too hot, so another guy came up while we were there and found in fact that it wasn't turned off. Breakfast selection was very limited. I had to ask for a glass to have a drink out of as they weren't being stocked properly. Finally, when we went to check out we asked if we could leave our suitcases behind for 2 hours. We were given the dockets but I noticed that that reception was very distracted, and so I was worried when the tags weren't immediately put onto our cases. I stayed behind to wait to see what would happen, and sure enough, 5 mins later after reception made some coffees etc, they went to put the tags onto the wrong suitcases, so I had to let them know. Overall, not a happy experience. I chose Peppers because I have good experiences in Martinborough, but was very disappointed.

Dear Warren S., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Peppers Queenstown Beacon. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. We have passed your comments onto our Front Office and Housekeeping teams to ensure that they are serving our guests to the standard we expect at Peppers. We appreciate you sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, The Peppers Guest Relations Team

Michele N. Families - 01/10/2019 AccorHotels review

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff at from booking direct and check in were professional and accommodating. The cleaning staff were superior. The apartment itself 306 was clean but tired. The blind the sink was badly stained, the carpet by the dining table had a threadbare crease 3m long. Again the water damaged puffed up wooden window frame in the kitchen looked shabby as did the feet of the bathroom unit. The gas fireplace was a health hazard to light - the wiring that you had to navigate around was somewhat frightening. We had to get assistance to get it going, the instructions in the guest book did not mention a switch on the wooden side panel. My sisters apartment had a remote operated gas fire with lovely schist surround. Ours looked dated. Overall the apartment layout was lovely and well equipped. The additional 3rd room was spacious and very modern and comfortable and we would definitely stay at Peppers again.

Disappointing anniversary getaway

Anon Couples - 01/10/2019 AccorHotels review

We stayed a total of 4 days and the accommodation was booked for us and recommended through a travel agent. Reception was nice and employees were helpful. Breakfast was nice too. Room was ok, small but tidy and warm. However our biggest issues was that our room was not sound proof. We were away on a romantic no kids weekend away for our wedding anniversary and we could hear everything that was happening in our neighbouring family suite. Being woken up by screaming kids early in the morning, and hearing every conversation next door put a damper on our weekend away. On our last night the family moved out and a party group moved in. Instead of being woken up early we were kept up until the early hours of the morning by their partying. Furthermore, the window facing out towards the water held a lovely view, but next doors deck wrapped around so that they could see straight into our room and sleeping area. We has the Roman blinds closed the whole time for privacy but again were disappointed as the blind left a gap at the bottom of the window where you could still see into our room if you wanted too. For a luxury apartment/accommodation were were left extremely disappointed in the lack of privacy and level of noise. Everyone is entitled to a great holiday and because of this we did not complain about the noise to reception and people should be able to make a certain amont of noise on holiday. The issue was the rooms not being soundproof for all guest. Considering the cost of the stay it was not cheap and as stated we were greatly disappointes. We will not be staying at this establishment again nor will we be recommending it to anyone else.

Genevieve F. Families - 30/09/2019 AccorHotels review

We recently stayed at Peppers Beacon. For context we were married at a Peppers venue, held family celebrations in other Peppers hotels and have stayed in Peppers hotels in three different states around Australia. IN 23 years of travelling we have never refused a room. We were part of a large group of friends (8-10 families) who stayed. Because we did not use the entertainment Guide special we paid 3,600 compared to 2700 which is fine and was our choice. However we were given an apartment with a restricted view despite being charged for a Lake View Room. We arrived early at the hotel and were asked to come back at 2pm. When we arrived we were told our room was not ready. We visited friends in their rooms (who had all been able to check in since 12pm for some reason and realised our Level 7 room was not going to have a lake view. We were told we could not be moved till tomorrow and our room still wasn't ready 2 hours later. Next thing we know another family was checked in to a lake view room as we headed out to find something to kill the time while we waited for our room. So there was one available - it just wasn't given to us. When we got to the room there were three types of bubblegum stuck to multiple front facing windows - not removed by housekeeping despite requests. The next day we contacted the staff to ensure there was no confusion about our expectations and were told they would do the best they could. We were happy with the next room (510) however then we had issues with housekeeping. They would come at 5.30-6 every night. Once they came in even when the do not disturb sign was up - waking us up in our pyjamas. Very odd and a bit scary for our children. We also had people staying in the rooms either side which were interconnecting rooms. During the night they would try and open the doorways into our hallway which was scary in the middle of the night. Please fix. Also - charging for car parking is ridiculous when people have already paid $500+ a night for a three star hotel. Overall a very disappointing experience. Tripadvisor reviews indicate you have an ONGOING PROBLEM with customers upset at being given restricted view apartments. Can I suggest you sell these at a lower price and provide accurate images. The whole experience of a late check in, no view, not being able to unpack our suitcases after a long trip, unexpected entrants into our apartment and a gas leak evacuation means the whole experience was sub par. I had been in phone contact with the hotel three times to confirm we would have a lakeside view as we were hosting our daughters birthday with family friends on our first night. Despite assurances we were obviously given lowest priority despite paying top dollar. It was such a disappointing and brand damaging experience. I would now never stay in one of your properties without written confirmation of what to expect (or not expect as it turned out in our case). After leaving I have received three requests to complete this survey. I hope that your response to this message indicates a higher level of service and care than what we experienced at your Queenstown venue.

View from lakeside apartment was beautiful. Disappointed with the worn furnishings and the fact that blue painting tape was still on the ceiling. Not up to standard expected, particularly for price and Peppers brand. The welcome touch of plate was a nice touch, however generally the apartment was not up to expectations.

We loved the location and the room we stayed in - 102. It provided perfect vies across the lake and to the mountains. It also provided easy walking access to the town. our only minus was the large mouse (or small rat) that ran out from under the dishwasher and under the lounge on the last evening. Eek!
