I booked Mercure Changsha South because I am an AccorPlus member. When I arrived at train station on the 17th of May, I called hotel to ask for address and street name. Guy at front desk replied in heavy Hunanese accent and gave me some address which my Didi app and Baidu map did not recognise. I called again and this time a lady gave me the address properly pronounced. Reached hotel and tried to check in. Got my keys from a male staff and as I was turning to go to my room, he tells me that the hotel will not be running its airconditioning. I was surprised because the temperature outside was 29 degrees C. Thinking there will still be air coming from central A/C, I went up to my room. It was a small dingy hole in the wall room. A/C was on but no air was coming out of the A/C. This cannot be correct I thought. And as a gold member of Accorplus, I was expecting an upgrade to the next level of room type. Went back to front desk to sort things out. This time a lady explained to me that the hotel is part of the mall and during the period between end of spring and summer (about a week), there will be no A/C services. Not even a fan blowing air. I asked why was this not explained to me when I checked in. And apparently they were fully booked and so no upgrade was possible. And no welcome drink was offered for wither of the two rooms I booked. The lady offered me a refund and even tried to help me book another hotel in town. So while I commend this person for going out of the way to explain to me, apologise and help me look for alternative accommodation (and this is a junior staff), where was the manager in all this? And because I ended up booking another hotel last minute, you can imagine how much I had to pay for alternative accommodation. Again no offer to compensate and no real apology from he management. Mercure Changsha South needs to beef up the quality of their staff and get the managers more involved. Sad!
