Nice room but the bedroom door lock did not work. Also the bathroom door wouldn't shut. However the breakfast was excellent as usual.

Thin walls and creaky floorboards make for a noisy stay

Whilst I didn't explore downstairs, the reception and lounge area looked very well looked after. Sadly, the room was more disappointing. As with a lot of hotels, the grouting in the bathroom needs cleaning, and there was a damp smell. Worse still was the VERY loud creaking from upstairs, as I could hear every step the guest upstairs was making, until late at night and from very early in the morning - and not just footsteps but LOUD creaking. Additionally, I could hear TVs and showers in other rooms - not ideal when im trying to sleep. The room was tidy enough, but very warm (couldn't find any temp control). The lamps next to the bed seemed to be switchd on and off at the Plug, so couldn't be controlled from in bed which was inconvenient. Check in was quick, if lacking any real friendliness or useful direction from the receptionist.

Evening meal delicious, staff very helpful. Had a problem with late night guests,night porter called twice, next morning receptionist moved us straight away,very understanding. A Tired Old Hotel ,corridor carpets need overhaul.But suited our budget for this weekend.Staff excellent.

Television lost its signal and within a few minutes of reporting this I was upgraded to another room. The room was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was perfect - a really stress free 24 hours.

Heating problems that could not be resolved made for an uncomfortable stay

Stayed in room 333 for two nights, checked in the evening of 5th June, checked out the morning of 7th June. When I first got in to my room after checking in on the 5th I noticed how warm it was, I checked the radiator next to the bed and it was hot. Having been a sunny day the heating was unnecessary. I opened the window as much as I could to help cool the room down. I assumed that the heating would not be on during the night so left it as is. However, the room stayed too warm through the night despite the window being open and I did not sleep well because of this. I left for work on the morning of the 6th, on my way out I explained the problem to the lady on reception. She said that if the radiator could not be fixed she would put me in a different room, there was plenty of vacancies on the 6th so it wouldn't be a problem, and she said to check when I return to see if I was still in 333. When I did return later that day (around 6:30pm) I asked the chap on reception what room I was in, his response was that I was still in 333. So I asked him if the radiator had been fixed, he knew nothing of the issue and said if the room was too warm when I got in there to let him know. When I got to the room I could see that nothing had changed and the radiator was still hot, again on a sunny day. I phoned reception to report this, I was told the heating would be turned off, I reminded him that I was offered an alternative room but this was ignored. By 9pm there was no change, the window was wide open but the radiator was still hot and the room was way too warm. I phoned reception again and the chap came up to manually turn the radiator off. First he complained about how far it was to walk to room 333, then with the tools he'd brought with him he adjusted the radiator but said he wouldn't turn it off completely "just in case" - in case of what? This had no impact on the radiator and again I had a very uncomfortable night. With the window wide open to help compensate for the heat I was able to hear the emergency vehicles go past the hotel at 4:45am and the glass recycling truck make a collection at 5:55am. When I checked out at 9am on the 7th the chap on reception had no response when I said that the radiator was still heating the room up and I was not happy with my stay. Why was I not simply transferred to another room?

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was large, nicely furnished and clean. Problem with the television aerial socket meant generally poor reception. Hair dryer was inoperative but changed immediately on request. The telephone was not plugged in to the socket, which was hidden behind the bed! All problems were attempted to be dealt with by Friday evening staff cheerfully and helpfully.

All staff were extremely helpful and we observed them going out of their way to help others. We felt our room was tired with bare wood showing on the bath panel, old sellotape stuck in random places on the ceiling, two lights not working in the room and unfortunately the lock broke - which was one of those things and handled very well. Also our room was not serviced one of the days we stayed.

When I first walked into the room (237) I was pleased, until I noticed: no handle on one of the windows and the handle on the other window was hanging off, either really hot shower or extremely cold - the mixer didn’t work, dodgy paint work in the bedroom, only one of the ceiling lights worked in the bedroom and one of the lights next to the mirror and the bin wasn’t emptied in the main bedroom after the room clean.

All Hallway carpets are filthy In our room: I bedside lamp had no bulb, impossible to get TV to work, window pelmet was half painted & hanging off wall, bathroom, taps gave of an excess of noise when used & needed decoration. Staff were excellent, especially to myself being disabled, food was excellent
