Staff are uninterested in its customers, the noise in the early hours from other drunk guests is dreadful, and the hotel makes no attempt to control these people, service is shocking, no one in the hotel has a clue what is going on.

« Disappointing with disappearing staff! »

Trying to book was not easy - when I asked for the wedding rate I was advised to call back in the week to speak to the wedding team - when I did that the wedding team put me straight back through to reception without speaking to me. Reception then took my booking in a very curt manner. Arrived - staff couldn't find reservation until provided with reference number. I also noticed that the sign for my friends wedding had the name of the bride spelt incorrectly. Room OK but very impersonal - no art work on walls. Some paint work was tatty (bathroom door). Bathroom is nice, but the shaver socket has been fitted too close to the sink for safety (I checked the regulations and would suggest that you check and get this fixed). My main issue was that I was attending a wedding in the hotel and the bar was left unattended more than it was staffed. I ended up fetching drinks from the hotel bar after giving up waiting. I went to reception on Sunday morning at around 9.30-10am and found it unmanned. After waiting for more than 5 minutes I found a member of staff in the restaurant, who said they would find a member of reception staff for me. They provided me with a key to use the pool. I was the only pool user. The pool itself was nice, but I was surprised by the state of the room with what appeared to be mould on some of the walls. My room lacked an iron (it had a board), I couldn't find a phone number for reception but found a member of housekeeping in the corridor who very quickly found me one. The hotel itself and the grounds (except for the current works) are very nice, but the hotel is let down by staff that kept disappearing.

The room we stayed in was not the best. During our weekend the television signal was not available. Some of the ceiling lights were not flush. The bottom of the bathroom door was all wonky, probably due to water damage. The food was OK, but not much better than pub food. On the plus side the waiting staff and cleaning staff were friendly and attentive.

There was no hot water to be able to shower and the bathroom radiator didn’t work so it was cold. The breakfast was slightly cold and the food had been sitting around for quite a while. Not the best experience.

Very good except for the bed! When I turned down the bed c. 11pm the bottom sheet was very stained. I slept on top of the top sheet. I was too tired to face moving rooms at that time of night. I haven't decided if I will stay with you again

The room was in desperate need of a refurb. I have taken pictures for evidence. My time in the room was awful. It was like a 2 star or bedsit accommodation. The new part of the hotel and general reception area was amazing. The breakfast was outstanding. It's a shame the room doesn't match those standards.

Hotel and rooms lovely and clean. On arrival we were told at reception we didn't need to book for the restaurant but that was not the case restaurant staff said we needed to book. Breakfast service was poor as nothing was topped up I kept having to ask then wait. The food was of good standard and overall worth the money.

Hotel in excellent location. Impressive reception area but sadly other areas of hotel looked 'tired' and in need of redecoration. The restaurant was functional but lacked any ambience and, again, the decor needed attention. Menu choices were good, meals well presented and delicious.

We arrived at the hotel after a busy day at Harry Potter studios, we were greeted by a wedding. The lady behind the desk was very polite but failed to tell us anything about breakfast. When we got to our room it was further away from the main house than expected, smaller than expected, had a hole in the ceiling and the bed had collapsed in the middle. We got up for breakfast and we’re very impressed by the food and the service

Two main issues , strange generator noise all night and even the next morning until check out , complained to hotel staff in the night the lied and blamed guests one floor above staying the guests had their air conditioning on and that's why we heard the noise . But the noise continued all night and into late checkout and noise continued. Second issue was the bed ... 2 twin bed bases used which were uneven ...we booked a double room but the bed and mattress had a massive dip because of the twin bases combined which were not flush

-slow service at check in -doors not wide enough for an electric wheelchair from reception to new wing. Difficult to hold doors while wheelchair is passing through - bedroom, room 8, far too small for electric wheelchair. Unable to turn wheelchair around in room. My husband had to sit in the wet room in his wheelchair - the room key card would not work for entry to the swimming pool. All the other guests said the same. There was no phone in the pool area to call reception, so we had to attract the attention of other swimmers to let us in. It was far too long to walk to reception to explain it to them. - dirty changing rooms. They were not cleaned from 8pm to 8am, dirty paper towels still on the floor. - slow service at evening meal on 8th January. Took a long time to bring orders to the table

Hotel was well presented and decorated, rooms clean and adequate in size. There was a strange intermittent high pitched bleeping though audible on whole floor (we were in rooms 57 and 58) which was constant during day and night - should have reported at time but we were in and out of room so not too disturbing. Staff were lovely as was the food, although the few times we called down to reception, they took an age to answer the phone (I hung up on 2 occasions). We did all find that outside of the room is was bitterly cold, particularly in the corridors - no visible heating at all. The major disappointment and concern for me was the state of the swimming pool and changing rooms, and I will be sending a separate email with pictures; as a business owner myself, including holiday lets, the cleanliness was appalling and in my opinion a H and S risk.
