The bedrooms are reminiscent of the 1970s in terms of decor. The bed was very comfortable. The heating did not work but eventually a portable heater was provided. The bar was deserted and the service was not friendly.

« Friendly service, clean, but cold! »

I had a nice room. The equipment was clean and in a good condition. The personal was friendly and helpful. The only drawback for me was the temperature in the hotel. I had only 17 to 18 degree in my room. This issue prevented any cosiness. I dont know whether the heating was broken or just so weak in general. I strongly recommend to fix it asap. Thank you Christian

The hotel was cold. My room (323) was 16C and the heating did not work. I told reception and they said there was not a problem so I waited 30 minutes and then they gave me a plug-in heater when the room was still freezing. I went back up to the room and the key card didn't work anymore so I had to go back down to reception to get a new one. My business colleagues also had a very cold room (326) and needed an electric heater. In the morning the water pressure in the shower was intermittent and sometimes was a weak dribble. The window in room 323 is 100% obscured by dirt, it is impossible to see anything outside. When I returned from breakfast at 9.40 am my key card didn't work again and nor did the key card of my colleagues. The TV remote control in my room was very strange, for example to adjust the volume you needed to press the channel +/- control. Other buttons had no function at al.

« Not what I paid for. Ruined Anniversary gift for my parents »

I booked a suite for my Parents anniversary stay and I stayed in a double room. The suite had a flooded carpet, no heat and disrepair outside (leaking walls and roof). My mother had to complain just to get a space heater to get the room temperature above freezing. The manager said they would refund the cost to my credit card but this was a lie and I have had no compensation for this loss.

Very poor experience, I booked room 314 executive suite, on arrival the room was very cold, The carpet has a huge stain in front of the fridge and the walls were stained, The Fridge was not stocked, There was no slippers and dressing gown as advertised. I complained at the reception with regards to the room being cold and was reassured this would be looked at. and would be sorted upon our return, On the same floor there was a lot of noise loud music from a group of young men and the smell of cannabis was very strong. On our return I can only describe our room as extremely cold and again complained, being told they should not have sold us that room. We were then taken to a standard room spoiling the hotel experience, I requested a refund and was told the manager would be in touch, Guess what! I'm still waiting. I will be writing to the chief executive about our horrendous experience.

Room 119 - room was lovely except the wall paper hanging off the wall and dust on the table. Didn’t really get a good vibe off reception staff and didn’t explain anything like check out times,use of pool, car parking ect... dining area wasn’t full of an atmosphere as there wasn’t any sky sports on just a music channel.. As someone who works in a mercure hotel the standards wasn’t the best.

« Disastrous. Damp, musty smell, rain dripping through roof, no hot water. »

This was an abysmal experience. It is a disgrace that you do not have walk in showers for disabled people and expect disabled people to climb into a bath to use an overhead shower. That is unacceptable. Transfer to the only room with a suitable shower for a disabled person was a waste of time as there was NO HOT WATER! This hotel should not be accepting guests staying in the rooms. There is much evidence that the roof is actually failing and there is what looks like a long standing problem with water ingress. There were buckets in the corridor collecting water drips.

There appears to be serious structural problems with this hotel and it should not be available for people to stay in. There was considerable evidence of water ingress. The first room we were shown to smelled damp and musty and was otherwise unsuitable for a disabled person as there was no walk-in shower, only a shower over the bath. We were given another room - an upgrade to the 'executive suite' because it had a suitable shower. There were buckets in the corridor outside the room catching drips from the rainfall. The room itself smelled musty and there was evidence of water/dampness on the outside wall. The skirting under the window was rotted and black in places and the chocolate brown carpet (yuk!) was water stained. It was late, we were tired from a 300 mile journey in torrential rain and we accepted the room. The fire alarm went off briefly in the night and the next morning there was no hot water at all in any of the rooms. We had a funeral to attend and ended up having a wash with boiled kettles of water in the bathroom sink. We were supposed to stay a further night but checked out and demanded a refund. Still waiting for it to be investigated. The reception and the public rooms on the ground floor showed no sigh of this water damage on the higher floors of the building, but we saw it on the first and the third floors so this is a serious defect in the building. This is not what's expected of a 4**** hotel.

We were there for a wedding, the reception room was cold, staff pleasant and helpful. The wedding meal room was freezing, we sat with coats or cardigans on. Still cold in the evening for the disco. The bedroom was also very cool, and the hot water was cold in the sink but did go hot,in the bath after running it for some time. Bed was comfortable, very big, and had a warm quilt. Breakfast was good, tasty and plentiful.

The reception staff were lovely, in particular a young male receptionist who ordered taxis for us and made sure we were welcome and catered for. In particular he took time to chat to us about why we were there and asked us each evening how our day had went. The room was spacious, clean and warm.

« No warm water for entire length of stay, no offer of new room, no offer of reduction. »

Whilst staff were responsive the repairs put in place were completely ineffective. We were part of a large party for a family funeral and others staying at the Mercure at had the same experience of no hot water (one couple also had a very cold room with the air conditioning not working to warm the room). Parts had to be purchased to repair the boiler. I was told at one point that I was the only person making a complaint! For our two night stay we had no hot water.

« Damp room, poor breakfast. »

I booked suite 214, room smelt damp, there were stains on the carpet from flooding, dirty marks on the inside of the window (from flooding above). Noisy ineffective aircon which due to the time of year made the room chilly. I complained to reception who allowed me to look at the suite room above, this was just as bad, so decided to stay where I was. Had a shower, only to find there was no hot water. After many trips to reception I was moved to a different room (127), not a suite. The room looked ok and had recently been decorated, however this room was allocated next to a plant room, which meant sleep was near impossible due to the constant vibration from the equipment next door. Breakfast was buffet style, selection was ok but didn't look very appetising in the terrines, I went to have a coffee, but every cup I picked up was stained, so I didn't bother. On checkout the receptionist was going to charge me the full price for a suite room, even though I didn't stay there. After telling her, I paid the price for a double (£85).

« Good but bad »

Staying because we were guests at a wedding. Checked in to drop the bags off before the reception the room smelled a little but looked clean and well presented so didn't think anything of it. When we arrived back at the hotel after the reception the room stank of damp. Being late we went to bed the next morning in the light had a look around the room one corner was completely wet with damp, another covered in mould and damp on the ceiling.

The room was good as usual however the bathroom door would not shut and there was no hot water in the tap. Staff were pleasant as normal. Need to improve breakfast, too expensive and low quality. I did not receive my discount as a member of Mercure

« Shocking Management for a Wedding »

I was bridesmaid for a wedding and the amount of times they were let down was shocking. The girl on reception did the best she could but all staff were lacking guidance from management and the wedding planner took a days holiday. The ceiling was still leaking on the night

Absolutely rubbish I have no word we traveled from london I had three kid under 3 the hotel rooms were cold no hot water stayed two days with shower hotel service so slow it was so the room service telephone did not work in any rooms I had go up down my self for everything. What nightmare of stay

I have recently stayed probably 20 to 30 nights over the past few months.the hotel has Avery nice atmosphere and your staff,from your cleaners up to your team that handle front of door are exemplary and are a credit to your hotel...Nothing is ever a problem for Vanessa and her co workers...Unfortunately the hotel I feel is in need of a overhaul or updating,including its poor hot water facilities(shower/bath)and toilet flushing etc...I also feel some of the beds are a hazard,as in they leave you with a bad back...All of the above queries have always been professionally and immediately responded and acted upon by your very courteous and professional staff...
