We booked this hotel for a weekend with 3 friends, as we wanted to be close to Oxford but not in the centre. From the moment we arrived we knew that we had made a good decision. The hotel exterior and the grounds are well maintained and attractive. The staff were immediately friendly and helpful. The rooms we had were well maintained, clean, comfortable and provided all we wanted and expected. Breakfast and dinner were also very good; in fact dinner was excellent, with a reasonably wide choice of dishes suitable for all tastes and all the food was cooked to a high standard, well presented and served by delightful staff. The hotel provides areas inside and out for sitting and relaxing or meeting as a group and we had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend there and would definitely book again.

I stayed at this Mercure hotel for two nights a couple of weeks ago using it as a base to visit the city of Oxford for a short break. It is clear from any map that the hotel is some way from the city. I chose not to drive on this occasion and had made detailed internet searches prior to the trip to ascertain that the hotel is accessible by public transport. There is a local bus service that runs four times a day on weekdays which stops right outside the hotel. The journey time is about 45 minutes. Alternatively there is a more frequent coach service just off the M40 motorway by Junction six which is about a 15 minute walk away. This is the Oxford Tube coach service going to and from London many times throughout every day and night. Having arrived at the hotel my initial impression was good. The building looks to be a long established pub which has had extra buildings added to it to expand the overall set-up. Entering through the main door there is a reception desk and the main pub bar is right behind that. I was very quickly attended to and my pre-booked reservation was immediately found. The swipe card I was given to enter my room also unlocked an access door just off the bar lounge area so this meant there was good security in place. I went up to my allocated room, number five, and once again was very pleased with what I found. I was travelling alone but had a very nice double bed, There was a reasonable size en-suite bathroom which had a bath with shower fittings. The room was initially a little cold and I was most impressed how quickly the efficient single radiator brought the temperature up to a more pleasant level. The hot water in the bathroom also came through quickly too when using the basin or shower. There was full tea/coffee making facilities on a tray on the desk which ran along one wall. During my time at the hotel I made extensive use of the free wi-fi facility which worked well. My room was on the side of the hotel facing out onto the main road which is the A40. Traffic noise was noticeable and whilst this did not particularly bother me it might be worth bearing in mind if a light sleeper were to use this room. On my first evening I did eat in the hotel dining room which is located just off of the bar area. I chose a burger option from what looked to be a fairly standard Mercure menu and this was more than adequate. On the second evening I just had drinks in the bar which had a nice relaxing ambience. On both mornings I very much enjoyed having breakfast in the dining room. This was laid out in a typical buffet style with a good choice of hot and cold options. At the end of my stay I was pleased to give my thanks and compliments to the gentleman who appeared to have been on duty whenever I had come or gone from the hotel. He told me that with one other staff member off he was having to work for much longer. He was certainly doing a good job in my opinion. I enjoy staying at Mercure hotels and take advantage of their loyalty programme. The only other Mercure in the area, in the middle of Oxford, would have cost well over twice as much to stay. I didn't mind the extra bus travel as it gave an opportunity to see some of the surrounding countryside. As such I had a most enjoyable break and a relaxing stay at this hotel and I would have no hesitation of giving it my recommendation.

We picked the hotel as a base to visit the area where Midsomer Murders is filmed. It’s near the M40 and ideal as a base. The room was comfortable and warm, loved the dining areas in the original building. Staff very friendly and helpful, especially Olga on the front desk & Claudiu in the dining room. (I hope I have the names correct). Happy to recommend this hotel to anyone.

On arrival, warmly greeted and had an excellent and easy booking in experience, all staff polite and friendly. Sadly didn't try Dinner, but looking at the menu and listening to other guest, sound excellent, hopefully will try on next visit. Breakfast was very good. Very easy booking out experience.

When we arrived to the hotel after 13 hours flight, we were assigned to Room # 112. It was slightly cold but forecast indicated lower temperature for further night; the heat didn't work at the room. They couldn't fix it right away so we were moved to another room (202). Heat didn't work either here. They said they were having "issues" with the heat system but they will continue to search for a room with a Heat system working. Finally found one (Room 216). The heat DID work but it was noisy... we were so tired that we didn't want to complaint no more. However, after almost an hour we were at a decent room to stay at. Indeed far for what is expected for a MERCURE hotel...

Overall, as a large party, the experience with staff was great! There was one room in our party where the bath panel was rotting away and broken. The shower tray looked like it was mouldy and the bottom of the door looked like it had been kicked in. A second room had to be requested to be re-cleaned, but it didn't happen! There was hair all over the bed sheets and in the shower and floor. The food was great and the service was also great from staff

The experience was very good. The only problems I had was the extractor fan was very noisy, so had to play with heating controls to switch the fan off. Breakfast which I got down to at 7:30. First down breakfast well presented, only thing wrong it was cold. To me they removed the covers to quickly ,and waited for the first quest . Good service all round. As I say be worth another visit

Excellent. Clean, quiet, modern & light room. But the restaurant is where you excelled, far better than most Hotel restaurants. I left several shirt in my room when I departed. Claire offered to take them to be posted back to me "on her day off". So rarely to you get customer focus like that.

Only one night this time, my wife commented that the shower could been fitted with a flexible hose as an option as most ladies do not wish to spoil their hair under the overhead nozzle. The room was very adequate but a little lacking in style and colour.

This stay certainly lived up to the Accor Group reputation. A friendly welcome at reception but still very professional. The room was large, well furnished and comfortable. The bathroom was also large. One of the attractions of this hotel is that the new rooms are built around a garden quadrangle. The bar and restaurant were of high standard as was the food. The hotel is located in the country side, near the M40 junction and within easy reach of Oxford and Thame. I would hope to stay here again.

The room was nice with comfortable bed, it the bathroom wasn’t cleaned properly. The waste bin hadn’t been emptied and the tiled floor wasn’t swept. The restaurant food was excellent and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
