« A brilliant all round service »

The staff are extremely attentive, always on hand for when you need something, very pleasurable to deal with and respectful. The dinner menu at the hotel restaurant was in French only but the staff were more than happy to guide me through each dish with a translation and explanation of the dish as well as suggesting what courses best compliment each other. The hotels spa facilities are amazing, I had some time to try the pool and sauna which were a great way to unwind after a long day of travelling.

Great location. Fantastic customer service with friendly and helpful staff. We were sad the restaurant is closed. More importantly, the spa is way too small... one afternoon, it was completely overcrowded with people sitting everywhere they could. It definitely altered the experience. A big negative.

« Pretty hotel, unenjoyable restaurant food, and not good for families »

The hotel is clean, the staff are cordial, but not overly warm to children as most European hotels are. The room had a safe but it was not attached and it was not set up. It was loose and not plugged in. The breakfast was nice but the dinner food was not enjoyable. The chef tries to be "too eclectic" with the style of the food and the compilation is just not there. The food attempts to be too fancy without sticking to basic culinary trends in the region. Trying to be too artistic with food doesn't always work out very well. What would be better is to take traditional food from the region, with good quality ingredients and minor variations but what was produced was so far from traditionalism that it completely lacks realistic authenticity. The spa was nice and they allowed our kids to go in when no one else was there but our children were yelled at by the staff to be quiet (when no one else was there in the pool). I don't think it is too professional to do that (they should have just said something quietly to the mother). The hotel has only about 4 parking spaces next to it that are always taken - sometimes by trucks, and across the street there is a parking lot that is always without spaces and you have to wait for parking and it has not association to the hotel at all (it should). If not there they tell you to park all the way up a very steep hill by a church that has absolutely no signs about where to park or where to leave your car. The hotel should provide a valet service for the rates they charge! Additionally we reserved dinner for New Year's Eve at the hotel, which seemed nicely decorated, but the staff should have told us that it was not recommended for children as there was not one child there other than our own, and the layout of the menu would not be suitable for a family. The New Years Eve menu was also extremely expensive and the food was not good at all. The waiting staff at the restaurant were very nice and tried to accommodate us but the 11 course menu of very odd food was not enjoyable (even for people like us who travel all over the world). Additionally, we were not able to stay for the entire dinner (we left halfway) and the staff said they would speak to the manager about reducing the rate for us as a courtesy (which we appreciated). I wrote a letter to the manager upon checkout and also wrote multiple emails to the staff to contact the manager about possibly reducing this dinner (almost 700 euros for 2 adults and two small children!) yet no one is answering me and I feel that I am being ignored, which I very much do not appreciate at all. Aesthetically the hotel is beautifully decorated but it lacks the warmth of accommodation that most people would enjoy and the restaurant menu is very far off the mark for Alsace region - the chef attempts to be too artistic with food and the quality is chaotic and lacking qualities that would appeal to the general public. This establishment is better suited for artsy-pretentious adults without families who don't drive anywhere or go to explore things on their own and just want to go to the spa and eat pretentious, unrealistic food.

Nothing could have been better: from the premises to the room, from the food to the personnel. It is such a charming hotel, wher everything is taken care with a degree of details rarely to be found. I recommend the restaurant for the excellent food prepared by two chief of outstanding level and served by personnel of such kindness that it is a pleasure for itself. Highly recommended

« Failed expectations »

During our stay we have been suffering from multiple accidents and stuff behavior which have affected our vacation in a bad way: 1) there was no space on the parking even for gusts of the hotel: first there was some trash from repairing activity “parked”, then people from other hotels and houses around were parking their cars on hotel parking. We have waisted our time and pacience each time coming to and from the hotel as it was challanging to find an other parking options in around in Barr and parking far away from the hotel was not nice especially late in the night. 2) on the desk/reception there were no staff from time to time, especially when we were chacking in, so we were late to the restaurant 3) THE WORST was the fire alarm which was broken or something else and woke up at 3 am through the second and third nights of our stay. First time it woke up us twice through the night. We could not rest and felt terrible after it. For a 5* hotel it is a total mess and not an appropriate conditions. Even having your appologize and some % will not bring back our time abd will not fix our emotions. And what is more upsetting is that the rest was very nice, clean and tidy, very tasty breakfast and lovely rooms. Some more points: please mention that there is no lift to reach some rooms and also please fix timer light on TV, it is too bright and it is hard to sleep with it - we had to cover it.

Our 4th visit and still very happy about everything, staff interaction, ambiance, decor, service, bar, restaurant, rooms, comfort and spa. Only down point at the spa are the few seating/relax areas that get crowded sometimes very quick.

My husband and I stayed at the 5 Terres hotel during part of a trip to France, Germany, and Belgium. Our stay in Barr was lovely. The hotel was great - very nice architecture, very friendly staff, great restaurant, comfortable beds. Overall, the stay was fantastic. The staff was quite attentive and friendly - always willing to help with a smile. I rated the overall experience as a 9 (rather than a 10) only because it was not clear to me upon booking that the hotel room we would be staying in did not have an enclosed bathroom. While the toilet was in a separate room, the rest of the bathroom (shower, sink) was visible from the rest of the bedroom. I'm a bit more private, and would have selected another room had I known about the bathroom. I found this hotel by searching the Accorhotels brands, and my familiarity with the M Gallery hotels. And, as usual, I was not disappointed. Thank you for a lovely stay!

« Nice stay »

My stay was nice. The Hoteldesign, the Room, Bathroom and the location of the Hotel are absolutely beautiful. The Breakfast buffed was 5*. and i enjoyed it a lot. But there was a big But. The Spa section. It does look beatiful yet it was not relaxing. For 1 the one day we wanted to relax there two times a group of People came in. Fully dressed with outdoorshoes. My thought was "What the Fu**?!" There are perfectly good pictures on the Website, why you have to disturb ppl trying to relax. 2nd. The Airvent was loud and it was hard to filter out the noise. But after i was pissed because of Reason 1 I was trubled to hear my headvoice while reading. So I canceld my Spa visit and went back to the room wich was quiet and cosy. Well 3rd is that on the left wall at the Sauna entrance there was (I am not sure if the word is used correctly here) debri from the stone wall like some work was done and not cleaned up after... so i was wandering how good the cleaning realy is in the spa. So in Total, it would be a great stay if the Spa excperiance would have worked out, which was our inital reason for the trip. Everything else was on point.

My partner and I had a wonderful weekend at the 5 Terres Hotel and Spa. The Suite was spacious, charming, comfortable and we immediately felt at home. The hotel is beautiful, quiet and stylish. The restaurant was the same, the food delicious at dinner and breakfast. The spa, sauna and hammam facilities were fantastic and finally the staff were pleasant, helpful and discreet.

We drove to Barr from Basel for our overnight stay at 5 Terres and unbeknown to us (email had been sent , but not read) vehicle access to the hotel was blocked due to the annual wine festival and security precautions. We parked close to the city centre and easily found our way to the hotel. On entering the newly refurbished building we certainly gave it the wow factor since the historical architechture had been preserved as much as possible with a very clever intro. of modern facitilites and furnishings. Our room was on the top floor (rooms 200+) and my only concern was the sloping ceiling and care needed in moving around. We used the lounge/bar area for predinner dirinks and found the service satisfactory. We had booked dinner in a nearby village at a restaurant well known to us and to enjoy the evening I requested a taxi take us there. Unfortunately, all taxis were fully booked and then the unbelievable happened. A reception employee (Mr. Gokay) offered to run in the rain to his nearby house and collect his personal car to take us the 4km to our dinner destination. This was service like we had never experienced and if any staff member of this hotel deserves the employee of the month award then he is the one. Mr. Gokay had to manouvre his way through the streets of the village, negotiating with security to remove barriers - amazing. The remainder of our stay in the hotel was very pleasant and we look forward to dining in the restaurant which looked very enticing indeed.
