« Fabulous hotel »

We enjoyed every aspect of your hotel. The staff were delightful and attentive. The beds were comfy. The gym and pool - really enjoyable and most of all, the food in the fine dining room was second to none. We'll come again if we can. Thank you.

« Nice place , but too many problems »

Check in was a nightmare. We booked a duplex suite which is a suite with an upstairs and a downstairs due to my wife and I both having sleep disorder. When we were taken to our room it wasn't what we had reserved and paid for. I went back to the front desk and told them it wasn't the two floor room and they told me they don't have any rooms like that. I showed them my reservation and only then did they tell me that all those rooms were under renovation. They finally got us into a room that was exceptable to us but this took over an hour at midnight. We were traveling with a friend and in the morning we found out that the same thing happened to him. He has reserved a room.with a veranda and was given a room without one. He too had to argue with them as he was told that they didn't have any available that night. He insisted and finally got a better room. The fact that they lied to us put.a very bad taste in my mouth. The second issue was we were with a tour group doing a safari. The company sent us information on the activities in the hotel one of which was the spa. We were to.get a 15% discount as part of the group. When I went to the.front desk to get my spa discount they told me since I didn't book the reservation through the tour company I wouldn't get the discount. Even after the tour company representative talked to.them and explained that we were with the tour they refused to provide the discount. As a President club member of the Fairmont I ended up with a 10% discount but the experience was disappointing at best. This was.y wife's birthday as well and the concierge , Aisha provided a nice bottle of proseco and a cake which was very nice, but the experience was already ruined by that time.

My wife was taken sick while at your hotel and the concern and attention given to her by your staff was truly commendable. The service was wonderful, the food great and the accommodation very nice.

« Fairmont has ruined the Norfolk »

I have stayed at the Norfolk Hotel for over 20 years. After Fairmont purchased the Hotel, I stayed there several times during the "renovation" and even then realized that the hotel was being dramatically changed for the worse. I elected to stay at other hotels for a few years, but on my last trip traveling with clients, I decided to go home to the Norfolk. The experience broke my heart. I had thought that perhaps someone who had never stayed at the "old" Norfolk, wouldn't be disappointed. How wrong I was. From the moment of arrival, until our earlier-than-planned departure, it was nothing but one problem after another - from being given wrong "class of rooms", to broken outside doors (not fixed) , showers that didn't work (not fixed), poor food quality, dirty carpets, erratic beverage service, etc. If you are truly interested, I have pages of notes made during the brief stay and I'll be happy to discuss it with a sincerely interested person. Fortunately, I found another lovely hotel to which to move myself and my clients. My heart is so broken as the Norfolk had always been my home sanctuary when in Nairobi. I feel as though I can never go there again.

« Our room was disgustingly filthy »

We checked in,no recognition that we were President's Club members,we were shown to our room which had two beds about the size of Army cots,we asked f there was a room available with a queen sized bed,. We were given a room that I might have expected next to gas station on a highway with an intermittent neon welcome sign. The carpet was a nightmare and the normal amenities like soap and shampoo had to be requested. After a long flight from the last thing we needed was to wait for the staff to deliver those items. Frankly,I would never stay there again but our tour group,Tauck has booked day rooms on September 15 for everyone. I'm happy we are not staying overnight. Will W.

Warm friendly helpful staff made the stay a delight. It would be our clear choice on a return visit to Nairobi.

We arrived after a long journey from the UK very tired and after checking in was shown to our room which as we was getting maŕried in the masai Mara was decorated with rose petals in a heart shape along with petals scattered all over the floor and bathroom. We also received some very nice cakes to have with a cup of tea before we went to bed. The security on arrival was excellent and made us feel safe. The gardens were well maintained and had numerous birds flying above which passed an hour in the afternoon whilst having a cold tucker or two. Breakfast was served from 6:30 and if required you can request a wake up call from reception. For breakfast there was something for everybody from fresh fruit, cereals, cakes; pastries to a full cooked breakfast. We didn't venture out but stayed within the grounds and had afternoon tea which although took 45 minutes to prepare of which we was told about was worth the wait when it arrived with a variety of sandwiches; cream cakes and scones with tea and coffee. The only thing the hotel could do with is maybe mosquito nets in the rooms and I think in the prices you are paying for the nostalgia and history of the hotel as not only are the prices double that of another hotel we stopped at but on top of that you then had a service charge and vat added on top. Don't get me wrong we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here we just thought the prices are a little over priced.

« A disappointing experience when compared to that which we enjoyed at the other two Faimonts in Kenya. »

A tale of two extremes. The booking of the Finch Hatton suite (via Elizabeth Achieng) was smooth and slick and check in was quick and efficient. Organising a late check out was effortless. It was the attention to detail where the hotel let itself down. For example: - 4 of us were booked in. So why were there only 3 towels, two sets of slippers and two bath robes in the room? Equally the amount of cutlery, napkins and crockery with the fruit bowl etc did not match the number of occupants. - The swimming pool gates had been closed 15 mins prior to the publicised closure of the pool. - Despite booking a local paper for the morning it was not delivered to our room nor to the breakfast restaurant. - The breakfast buffet was not replenished swiftly during our 60 minutes in the restaurant despite assurances that the food was on its way. - Despite booking transport to the airport (which we were informed was free) the day before check out, on check out there was no transport. We were then told not to worry and wait for a few moments and something would be organised. 45 minutes later I was asked for US$50 for the transport. I asked to see the duty manager and pointed out that we had been told it would be free and that it was almost an hour late, so the least I expected was the ride to be free; his response was one of indifference. He refused to admit that the hotel had made a mistake (although the lady at the desk, whom I had booked the transport through the day before had already admitted forgetting to put it in the booking sheet), insisted on a reduced $30 payment, or simply stated I could catch a taxi from outside of the hotel. We stayed for 4 nights at the Fairmont in the Maasai Mara, and also enjoyed both an epicurean Sunday breakfast buffet and a mid week afternoon tea at the Fairmont Safari Club in Nanyuki; both of these hotels were absolutely worthy of the highest satisfaction rating. We feel that the Norfolk Fairmont unfortunately is not in the same league as its two Kenyan sister hotels and will be most unlikely to return for a stay of any kind, nor indeed recommend it to friends.

The hotel was exquisite and our stay was way too brief. This hotel is a throwback to the Hemingway era with service to match.

« Dissatisfied »

Good: Friendly staff Quality of breakfast Helpfulness of staff in finding our driver Security Room service Bad: This was a honeymoon. We checked in, were congratulated, were given a room which turned out to be a twin with two single beds. Why would a honeymoon couple be given a twin? We then went back to the desk, were allocated another room which took some time, which was a double, but was on a side of the hotel with noisy building work taking place less than 10 metres from the window, which continued until the end of the working day. Given the one room change already, we couldn't be bothered to discuss with reception again. Unclear advice received from reception about how to pay for items in the hotel. A card pre-authorisation should have been requested. We went to the bar in the evening, signed for some drinks, then I received a telephone call from reception late in the evening about non-payment. Frustrating. Overall, frustrating experience and no feeling of special treatment given that it was a honeymoon. The hotel is the equivalent of a 3 star or poor 4 star at best in the UK. Was expecting better from the Fairmont brand.
