Very short stopover stay which ended our holiday on a high. Wish we had booked longer. We arrived and were checked in by the friendly and efficient reception team. Once shown to our suite. Steph our Butler arrived to explain the details to us and made us feel very welcome. A visit to the Writers Bar, again excellent service and an enjoyable pre dinner drink. Dinner at The Tiffin Room. Delicious meal served by charming staff, Departed early next morning supplied with a fantastic breakfast box. Our expectations were high and were exceeded on all fronts. a truly memorable stay.

A hotel that has been on my wish-list for many years. So we stopped in Singapore on our way home to the UK from Melbourne. The airport isn’t far away and on arrival, the welcome is instant and perfect. We were shown to our room - an upgrade to the Noel Coward suite. In fact this room is rather smaller than the room I had booked but it is in a small wing of the old part of the building which was nice. The rooms are of course beautifully appointed. A/C worked a bit too well for us though - and the bed isn’t the most comfy - but everything else is superb. The crowning glory of course are all the staff who are clearly trained to an incredible standard. Breakfast was delightful - I had the local breakfast of curry something on two mornings which was well worth trying. We had a morning by the roof-top pool and enjoyed that. A highlight for me was a tour around parts of the hotel by a Gentleman whose name I sadly don’t recall - but he’s been at the hotel forever and has plenty of good stories. The Long Bar is a must and we were told to walk past the long queue and announce ourselves as hotel guests - thank goodness as the wait time was boringly long. Mrs W loved the Singapore Sling - I thought it was horrid. But it was concocted for women! I loved the Writers Bar. Small and classy with killer cocktails. All in all, great fun. Reassuringly giant bill and I’m sure we’ll be back one day.

The Raffles is a beautiful and very well-kept hotel. But what would the best hotel be without good staff? Tonight the waiter Allen gave us excellent service when we came out of the Writers Bar. Thank you for that. We will probably stay here next time.

I stayed at Raffles Singapore for the 1st time in 2015. The service was amazing. Prior to my visit I conversed via email and received responses almost immediately (as expected for a hotel of this calibre). Unfortunately, the same service was not provided this time. I stayed in a total of 5 hotels on my trip to Singapore and Australia, yet Raffles was the only one I had to chase for responses to my emails. Positives: Room was amazing. Large, tastefully decorated. Much improved from when I visited in 2015. Butlers - The two butlers I came into contact with were very helpful and friendly Clemence (I hope I spelt his name right) - At the pool. Also very helpful and friendly. Historical tour - Very informative and well worth doing if you have time Butchers Block Restaurant - Excellent service, food and drinks. Check in - We arrived around 8am and our room was available Door Staff - I read a negative review that they did not seem to recognise hotel guests. However, the ones I encountered were very nice and did remember me and my name. Negatives: Slow response on emails as per above Pool service - the staff were great but there were a maximum of 2 - one behind bar and one serving meals, sometimes only 1 in total. They should have a 3rd person stationed by the pool taking orders or else a button you can press for service. For the price paid, I expect to be able to order drinks and food from my sun lounger whenever I want. Check out - My bill was more than I expected. I was told this is because after I booked, the Singapore Government increased the tax rate. I understand that it is a legal requirement to pay this tax but Raffles should reduce their charge to honour the original confirmation seeing as I booked prior to the change. At the very least, I should have been sent an email confirmation prior to checking informing me of the increased rate. Breakfast - Extremely poor service. We were placed outside the main breakfast room as it was too busy. It took a little while for the staff to take our order. Our tea and Iced coffee turned up with no milk so we asked for milk. In addition, the straws for the iced coffee disintegrated so I also asked for a new one. These did not turn up despite asking 3 times. I then went to get the milk in a cup from the cereal bar and informed the waitress as I went in. She smiled and said ok rather than apologising for it not turning up. Very disappointed and put me off having breakfast again. Review - I was asked for a review post my check out and mentioned the above negatives. I would expect a follow up to my review to discuss or respond but I have received nothing. All in all, some aspects were extremely disappointing for the price paid. Perhaps these wouldn't be too much of an issue but I have stayed in top 5 star hotels previously which were significantly cheaper but did not experience any issues. In addition, when I compare it to the service in 2015, it has deteriorated. Yes, I would stay here again as the positives just outweigh the negatives (I would probably give this 3.5 stars rather than 3) but I do hope that they prioritise their customer service in all aspects more. I get the impression that they know people will stay here regardless so they are not too concerned if they lose out on your custom.
