Amazing stay!

We always love Raffles properties, and this was no exception. But really stood out, was the heritage aspects of the property owing to the French influence of Cambodia. It felt a bit like stepping back in time, but with modern luxuries. Our suite, which had direct access to the courtyard and swimming pool was beautiful and we especially loved happy hour at Elephant Bar as well as the piano player at night. Dinner at 1932 was amazing as well as afternoon tea, and the staff in general were extremely helpful. I cannot recommend this property enough!

Beautiful historic hotel

4 night stay at Raffles in Siem Reap as a couple. Firstly, only fair to say the staff go out of their way to make your stay run smoothly. The original wooden lift is full of character and there’s always someone c there to open the doors when arrive in the hotel lobby. Feel very “waited upon” whether dining in the restaurant, having a drink in the Elephant Bar or conservatory or sat around the pool. Disabled be aware - I have spinal problems and use a walking stick mostly, but also cannot get in/out of a bath. We had stayed in a Landmark room ( our travel agent booked this room) in Raffles in Phnom Penh and that has a walk in shower cubicle as well as a bath - so we didn’t think there would be an issue here. Sadly on arrival our Landmark room which was on the front of the hotel ( noisier on front of the hotel if you sleep light like me as this is a historic hotel and there is a road out front and a park ) but also the shower was over a bath ! So we had to ask to move room as I could not access the shower safely. We were told the hotel was full and ALL LANDMARK rooms have this set up with a shower over the bath !) - we showed them a photo of the bathroom we had taken in Phnom Penh to show that their Landmark rooms had shower cubicle separate to the bath. After a while the room manager found us the only other room which did have an accessible shower for me, but it had 2 double beds not 1 king-size that we had booked. As we only had the choice of a kind bed but a bathroom I could not use or a bedroom with 2 double beds with an accessible bathroom we accepted the latter. The special trip was for our 27th wedding anniversary as well as my 50th birthday - my chronic back meant sleeping in a double bed was impossible so we instead had to sleep separately- not ideal ! I did not want it to be the focus of our trip, but I did continue to mention to both my travel agent and the room manager that this situation was not ideal ! On our final night of our 4 night stay we were kindly upgraded to a suite which had a king size bed and an accessible bathroom with walk in shower ! On arrival at the hotel I was given a beautiful bouquet 💐 of Lotus flowers once in our room, for our wedding anniversary with was a lovely touch. We were also presented with a heart shaped cake after dinner in the restaurant on our first night dining there. The Food and Beverage manager was very helpful. I do not drink alcohol due to my medication I take for my spinal condition - on arrival they did not have many choices of Alcohol free adult drinks unlike Raffles in Phnom Penh to my surprise - but he asked me what I like to drink the most and he says they would be there the next day from the supplier. He got a range of Lyres Alcohol Free Inc G&T, aperol spritz and white rum so make virgin mojito and virgin pina colada’s for me during our stay. Worth knowing that Happy Hour is different at each Raffles hotel and is 4-6pm here whether in the conservatory or by the pool. The food at breakfast was plentiful and delicious. There’s also a pancake chef and an egg chef for eggs Benedict etc …and not forgetting the “champagne breakfast” - my husband quite enjoyed this ! The staff were superb, they even brought me dishes I had often enjoyed at Raffles Phnom Penh as the thoughtful staff had let them know in advance of us arriving. I usually asked for the Strong Cappuccino and had a couple every morning. When not out exploring Siem Reap and the temples of Angkor Watt, easily reached from this hotel, there is a lovely pool to enjoy. Staff swiftly brought over chilled bottled water frequently ( it was very warm - 38 degrees or thereabouts ) and there were ample deckchairs and umbrellas - we had lunch by the pool and drinks at Happy Hour too. Concierge are happy the book taxis or Tuk-tuk for you .( Alternatively you can use the Grab app). We had a range of transport when off seeing the Temples, we had a pre organised tour in a mini van one day with our guide. Another day the hotel booked us a Lexus taxi to visit the lady temple and another couple on our way back, and on our third day we took a Tuk Tuk for 4 hours booked by the hotel concierge and showed them on the map which 2 temples we wanted to visit. It was nice to experience the different modes of transport exploring the ancient site, as it was very hot during our stay. Tuk Tuk are pretty cheap, they also carry cold bottles water for you which is good. We had the choice of booking for half a day or a full day, they were pretty popular! Definitely agree the price before you set off them there’s no stress and you just pay when get back to the hotel, we paid in US dollars which were a popular method of payment in Cambodia and made it pretty easy for us to work out costs too ! Cons about this hotel : Landmark room didn’t have a proper balcony initially, the room we swapped to had a good sized balcony but no chairs / table which I found a bit odd ! I would have expected this in a lower class of hotel let alone here ! The rooms away from the main road are better in my opinion, but then I sleep lightly and any noise wakes me up !

Well located and good stay.

The Raffles was a great choice to stay while visiting Cambodia. The service from the first moment was superb. In particular, we were assigned a full time Butler, he was so attentive and really made our stay special. Great restaurants, garet location.

Overall, my stay at Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor in Siem Reap was a memorable experience, largely due to its excellent food and prime location. However, there were some areas for improvement that affected my overall impression of the hotel. Starting with the positives, the hotel’s dining experiences, particularly the dinner at 1932, were exceptional. The staff at these venues were warm and hospitable, providing excellent service throughout my stay. Additionally, the unique experiences offered by the hotel, such as the Heritage & Royal Residence Tour, Monk Blessing Ceremony, and Sommelier session with Ms. Socheata, added a special touch to my visit. While the location and food were outstanding, there were some areas that could have been better. At breakfast, the service could have been improved, and more Cambodian options would have been appreciated. Additionally, considering the heritage status of the property, some of the plumbing fixtures and locks need upgrading. Furthermore, while the service levels were commendable at most outlets like the 1932 restaurant, pool bar, conservatory, and elephant bar, the same could not be said for Cafe d’Angkor. This inconsistency in service quality was notable. I was also disappointed that despite promises in the welcome letter, special amenities were not provided during arrival and turn down. Moreover, I had hoped to participate in a yoga class, but unfortunately, it could not be arranged. On a positive note, the airport pick-up and drop-off services were well-organized and efficient, contributing to a hassle-free experience. The lobby staff were friendly and always willing to assist, such as arranging for a tuk-tuk. Additionally, the Raffles butler did an excellent job in helping me pack my luggage. Lastly, while the lawns were well-maintained, I found discrepancies in the timings for the gym, spa, and pool, as they were not correctly mentioned on the website. In conclusion, Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor offers a luxurious and culturally enriching experience, with outstanding dining options and a prime location. However, there are areas where improvements can be made in terms of service consistency, facility maintenance, and fulfilling promised amenities.
