« Very enjoyable stay »

From the moment of arriving you know you have arrived at a special hotel. The bedroom was one of the best we have ever stayed in. The grill bar staff where exceptional and any request was no problem. Only downside was that the hotel interior was a bit too hot, maybe need to turn down the heating a notch or two.

Stayed on a Sunday evening, was disappointed in the restaurant at night , staff were polite but felt a bit disorganised, we asked for bread ax a side as menu stayed it , it came as starter , had to ask for butter , no side plates , waiter took ages on a simple request. Everything else in the hotel was amazing

I enjoyed my stay at Fairmont. However, part of the reason we were staying was to use the spa, we were unable to use true facilities we wanted to as the pool was too busy, the beds were all reserved by towels, the sauna was full as well as the steam room.

I am very pleased with my stay at Fairmont St Andrews and I am happy with the service I was provided throughout. From the moment I arrived until I left, the staff were courteous, helpful and always looking to support my needs. One of my favourite parts of the hotel is the breakfast and the staff were fantastic in catering to my needs, especially as I was in the restaurant at 6:30am. The provision of the gym and health club on site was a welcomed addition and added a relaxed nature to what was otherwise a business trip.

We had a great night staying at the hotel. Check in/out was quick and easy. Our room was lovely. We used the gym and pool area which both had great facilities, although disappointing the jacuzzi wasn’t working. We had dinner in the restaurant within the hotel and the service there was great. Only other slight disappointment was breakfast. There was so much choice but when we went around 9.30am there wasn’t that much left. We asked a member of staff if there was anymore sliced fruit and were told no which if breakfast is on until 10am I would expect there to be full availablity until then. Overall though, we will be back.

The hotel is lovely, staff were really good, and they dealt very sympathetically with us in regard to having to leave early because of a family bereavement. My concern was with the afternoon tea and the morning breakfast. We had high tea, but the sandwiches were unappetizing in terms of flavour and had not been freshly made - that slight customers on the bread. Neither were all the crusts cut off. The hot course arrived about 20 minutes after the sandwiches and cake were served. Seemed odd to be eating scrambled egg with pastries. Breakfast was standard fare for a lesser hotel, not inkeeping with your general high quality offer. Dinner at the bar&grill was excellent.

Our niece gave us a voucher as a wedding present after we were married last year, so many if the questions were not relevant. My wife was concerned/confused maybe better, that on ordering a 'flat white' coffee on arrival no 'biscuit' was included!!

Mattresses had dip in them from over use. Ordered breakfast in bed as had an early start, arrived 15 mins late. Tried to book spa which was fully booked, fine, one week before stay asked for alternatives, called in the day if our stay with recommendation, lucky I’d booked something else

Stayed for one night as a birthday treat. Hotel is really beautiful and the staff are all very friendly. The bedroom was lovely. Bathroom was veery big with a deep bath and huge shower.

Staff and service great. Disappointed at corporate feel of bedrooms, expected a more unique decor for 5*. Bed too soft. Guest areas very nice and good space. Due to size of hotel understand the buffet breakfast but wasn’t a good experience much prefer menu and table service for breakfast. Second morning buffet food cold and long wait at egg station. Limited choices for room service; requested pizza which was organised but needed to collect myself, defeats the purpose of room service. Satellite TV not working and couldn’t be fixed. Heating system poor.

« Great hotel but not as dog friendly as hoped and poor restaurant »

Overall we had a great stay, great breakfast and facilities however we had 3 issues concerning 'dog friendly' policy, La Cucina and main bar. We had paid £50 supplement for our dog to come with us on our stay (which I believe is an extortionate amount). Shes a small very clean whippet that's extremely well behaved and having worked in a hotel before, most guests will require deeper cleaning once they have left. However we were told on our arrival that unfortunately the dog cannot go anywhere in the hotel and is really only allowed in the room. If you call your hotel dog friendly I believe you should have some designated areas where dogs are allowed to relax with the owners. I would understand if they weren't allowed in restaurants etc but to not allow them anywhere in a 'dog friendly' hotel and still charge £50 is unfair. My wife and I were gutted to find this out on arrival. We had dinner at La Cucina and experience was pretty bad, waited 40mins JUST to get a drinks order taken after trying to wave down several waiters while they were all chatting to each other, we did take this up with the waiter and he was very apologetic and remedied the situation but still not acceptable with the prices you are charging. My wife ordered the lobster pasta which when came only had TWO small pieces of lobster in it, its cost £28!!! Couldn't believe it, most expensive pasta I've seen and was a extreme disappointment. On a plus note, my pizza was brilliant. Issue concerning main bar, ordered 2 different whiskies for myself and wife. The bar man brought over 2 whiskies but proceeded to let us know that they ran out of one of them but told us the one he has substituted it with was very similar and he recommended it. Being a whisky fan I asked him what whisky it was and he answered Macallan which I know is generally very expensive. Just before he turned to walk away I stopped him to ask how much was it, it was THREE times the prices of the whisky I'd asked for!!! To assume I would be happy paying that was bad and if I had drank it, I would be obliged to pay it! I returned it and the bar man was very apologetic and admitted his fault. Overall we did have a great stay, lovely hotel but a couple of hospitality issues did leave us with a sour taste as our expectations were so high consider the room price and supplements.

Drinks very overpriced. Room was a bit of a let down but bathroom beautuful. No bottled water for taking medicine. £2.50 is ridiculous for water it should be FOC for price paid for the room.
