The hotel was fabulous couldn't fault it. The golf course was brilliant. Unfortunately the food in the Italian restaurant was not not good both my partner and myself had the pasta dishes and neither were good, to be fair they didn't charge for one of them, the breakfast wasn't a good experience either, everything was cold . The golf club food awful we both had fish and chips the fis was no bigger than a portion of fish fingers and the batter was a soggy mess and I think when you pay £14-00 you expect to get better quality than that... I would go back to the hotel but I fought I eat there again. Linda Warburton.

Hotel was great! Staff very friendly and helpful. Only issue is the hotel is a bit to far outside of St. Andrews.

« Lovely Hotel - Great Service »

My husband and I had a lovely stay. Especially liked Tea at the Savory and really loved dinner at the Grill - the view was exceptional. Overall the service was top notch. In addition the room and hotel were clean and well presented

« Beautiful Hotel »

Loved the room and bed, bar was awesome as was the St Andrews grill. We also enjoyed the hot tub (needed to be hotter) and the afternoon tea. Had to ask for washcloths - but that was the only issue. Great place to stay - beautiful views, good service.

Fantastic hotel in the most beautiful location, excellent food and some of the most friendliest hotel staff I've met in all areas of the hotel. Will certainly visit this hotel again

The experience was relaxing, nothing seemed like too much trouble for the staff. Everything and everyone was lovely.

« Overall experience was above average. »

As always the staff service is excellent. The room was well equipped, bed very comfortable. Breakfast is excellent, only minor point affecting me was that I have type 2 diabetes. I always have porridge with a few fresh blueberries or raspberries or strawberries. Unfortunately none of these were available and the only fruit choices were served in syrup and I couldn't have them. Is it possible to get fresh berries,in season, they will be grown locally. Also there is now a restricted choice of evening food, I ate in the Italian restaurant, there didn't seem to be a large choice of dishes.

We had a great time playing golf on 2 great courses and staying overnight in a superb hotel. I am sure anyone choosing the deal we had will love it.

« Good location - but room for improvement »

We booked five rooms for 2 nights and a total of eight people in our family group and had high expectations. The hotel sits in huge grounds and has a great drive towards the entrance. Inside, the hotel has been refurbished and it's has large areas, particularly the breakfast, lunch/dining/function area which is at a lower level together with the spa. Surprisingly, there are no trees, plants or flowers to be seen in the public spaces (not even at the check-in desk) so the vast halls feel rather impersonal and slightly unwelcoming. This includes the lounge area and bar. We all felt that it would have made a big difference to the ambience to incorporate potted trees, plants and flowers together with some room dividing structures to creat a more homely feel. The rooms are fairly spacious (especially the suites and seaview rooms) but there were no slippers present in any of our rooms and we felt this should be a given considering prices of £300 and above per night. There was also not welcome chocolate or turn down service. The pool area wasn't entirely up to scratch and not quite clean either. The spa service (we booked a couple of pedicures) was enpensive for what it was but ok. The breakfast was buffet style and felt slightly "mass" produced, juice was not really fresh and choice of breads was poor. The staff, in particular the front desk staff, were very friendly and helpful. We chose not to eat at the hotel other than breakfast so can't comment on these facilities. We played a round of golf on the Torrance Course which was nice.

« Many aspects of hotel need attention and improvement. »

Negatives: desk chair in room was broken, room overlooked front entrance so was noisy at midnight as wedding guests left and then again at 6am as the golfers opened and closed the trunk of the car and shouted at each other. Morning breakfast was understaffed and staff seemed untrained. Massages at spa were expensive back rubs, with no ability to give deep (desired) pressure Positives: Evelyn at breakfast was wonderful and seemed to be doing everything herself. Obviously the landscape is fantastic. Spa facilities were really nice also. Front desk staff were responsive.

pleasant staff lovely bathroom awful view, worst view ever had, not impressed room not serviced until nearly 3pm despite being out of the room from 945 - 1350 horrible stain on mattress protector that was left exposed with card to change sheets - was not changed until complained, was told by house keeping it was 'a blood stain but would have not too worry it was safe' was really shocked, not 5 star. I don't blame housekeeping as imagine if they were told to bin sheets with stains they would. I was told they would send it to dry cleaning. Housekeeping were very polite. On checking out the receptionist (male) did not ask if we enjoyed our stay/ liked our room.

« a wonderful expeience »

Familiar with the hotels in St Andrews, I want sure what to expect of The Fairmont. I wish now that I had discovered it sooner. Nothing was too much trouble, the service was impeccable. The sense of space and light echoed the joy of the landscape. The food was good and the views from the clubhouse restaurant, unforgettable.

Hotel was not of the cleanliness I would expect. Our party hired two executive suites which were dusty, the carpets were dirty and the television cables were hanging down on the wall. The hallways to the rooms were also quite dirty. The Grill restaurant food was extremely disappointing and overpriced for what it was. The staff were not trained properly (although clearly have appetite to learn). The management of them was non existent. The hotel concierge was very good. The staff at the front desk informative and attentive.
