We have stayed at the Fairmont in San Francisco a couple of times, it is one of our favourite hotels anywhere, and this just didn't compare. Our room was noisy, the staff not as welcoming and the corridors were, to put it bluntly, shabby. It doesn't seem to be in the same class. We were bery disappointed with the whole experience.

The usual problems that are common with two star hotels but not expected with a hotel of this stature ie: Booked a non-smoking room but it was stocked with two ashtrays & matches, tub does not drain properly, the lever to flip from shower spray to tub faucet does not work properly, the typical headache associated with a French half glass shower door (water sprays out on bathroom floor), noise coming from rooms on both sides and the hallway, constant noise of water leaking through the pipes likely from a faulty toilet above and topped off when a 3 meter piece of metal sheeting fell down on my head from bathroom ceiling.

« 3 night stay with family members in Monte Carlo »

Rooms were lovely and spacious. Pool area was a lovely place to spend time - was quiet though given it was October - I can imagine it would feel a bit crowded during peak season. Variety and quality of food at breakfast was very good. Staff friendly and polite. Unfortunately though I was led to believe that as a gold member I would be able to get early check in but we had an hour and a half's wait for one of our rooms despite being told on arrival that it would be ready in half an hour - not ideal for very weary travellers after an early start. I was also told I had to pay for the rooms on arrival and was just charged a total amount on my card; being told I would get a breakdown on check-out ; at which time I would also be able to use my reward points against the total cost of stay. Unfortunately when I then went to check out and I got my bill; I noticed that they had overcharged me for the rooms against the quote previously given and was also told I couldn't use my reward points because the rooms had already been paid for. I was understandably very annoyed and did insist that I wanted the bill adjusted and the reward points taken off so that I could then just pay the balance. It took 45 minutes and the involvement of two staff members and a call to head office before this was finally sorted out as at first I was just told "it's not possible". At least it did get sorted out but it was a very frustrating experience and not what I would expect from a Fairmont. Your staff should be properly informed of the processes around using reward points and inform guests accordingly and I don't think it is good practice to charge a large amount on a card without giving an adequate bill /break-down at time of charging.

Room with sea view was excellent, concierge and reception helpful and professional. I would have given 10 but the breakfast was slightly chaotic. Breakfast food was fine but staff organisation needs to be better coordinated.

« We were made to feel welcome as soon as we steeped out of our taxi and this continued throughout our stay. »

All the staff were very polite, friendly, clean and tidy and welcoming in all parts of the hotel. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Our bed was like a warm cloud of comfort. The bedroom and bathroom were very well equipped. It was nice to have two chairs to sit on.

We booked as a special trip to celebrate our 30th Wedding Aniversary. The trip was ruined by the defending reclaimation works. The balcony was unusable!! We were eventually moved but lost our enjoyment for an entire afternoon and evening

« Mixed. Not great to begin with but got better. »

We booked a deluxe seafront room. Unfortunately the axing view was ruined by a gigantic tanker directly outside our room. Not ideal but was willing to except it. That night we discovered that we were also directly under the restaurant/bar which played music til the early hours so hard to sleep. We were then woken at 5:30 by cleaners moving furniture around above us. No sooner had we fallen back to sleep the tanker began pumping concrete and continued until we finally gave in and went to breakfast. So a very bad nights sleep!!! After breakfast I went to see Diana, the receptionist who checked us in, to explain our previous nights experience and she was very helpful and understanding. Diana promptly moved us to another room which was much quieter and with a clear view.
