From booking our stay to being greeted upon our arrival and accompanied to our room we could not have asked for better service (only better weather). Our meals, cocktails, high tea and service from your frontline staff made our short stay a truly memorable one. Thank you...we look forward to returning in 2019

Incredible !! Highly recommend the Willow Stream Spa couples massage with your own private suite !! Generous benefit, the exquisite Fairmont Gold Lounge is the Best in its class. With exceptional entrees, beverages and elegantly appointed! We were disappointed in the size and furniture layout of our king harbor view suite, not allowing us to take advantage of the harbor view and the chairs were very uncomfortable for what we paid per night for 4 nights. The Empress is gorgeous and walking distance to downtown, shopping, recreation, museum and restaurants! The staff are a class act everyone goes out of their way to make your stay memorable

We stayed for my daughters 9th birthday as her treat. The staff treated her so nicely and made her feel special. The room was small and cold. We couldn’t figure out how to fix the temperature. A small sign in the room how to do that would be helpful. The curtain was ripped which just takes away from the class this hotel should be. The bathroom was small but well stocked. We enjoy the food and ambiance of the hotel regardless.

As a frequent traveller at high end hotels, I was excited to stay at the Empress so that we could have a 4 star experience at home. The Empress did not meet our expectations. The room was noisier than expected for this level of property, requests for room service required a second call (and then the tea we finally got after a 2 hour wait was removed from our room by the maid service,) no dog bed or treats were provided to us, (after being told they would be coming to our room,) our "dog friendly" room seemed to mean if our dog wasn't absolutely silent, we got a phone call, and to add insult to injury, the incredibly expensive high tea we booked- the Burj Al Arab charges about the same for a rather wonderful experience- was also a sad disappointment, with very small amounts of food, only one type of tea given and a diabetic friendly scone that resembled a crumble-to-the-touch very small, grey hockey puck. (To be fair, the tea service people did send us better scones the next morning at no extra charge... but the magic of the experience was lost.) We were hoping for a romantic, relaxing kind of getaway at a hotel we would come back to again and again with our dog. We got an average experience, with service well below what was promised. We would not recommend it to anyone, nor will we return to the Empress.

Beautiful rooms, well appointed and always that additional touch. Great selection, in the gold lounge, of breakfast choices; however it would be great to see a few more dessert choices in the evening. Everything about the stay was fantastic.

I arrived to check in at 4:40pm and was informed by the hotel staff the they didnt have our room because the other couple were still there and they had mistankenly granted them a late check out. Apparently the only option was for us to pay for an upgrade. I have never heard of having to pay when it is a hotel's clear fault especially a 5 star hotel. I found it unacceptable. We also had a dog and we were told that there would be a bed, a biscuit and bowls for her waiting, so we brought none of this. And again this never manifested. Needless to say, i am less than impressed by the lack of attention to detail and the fact that i had to pay an extra 70 for management's mistake.

Fabulous property but service wasn't usual standard. We (myself and some other planners) discussed how the bar service and restaurant service was quite slow. We understand that there was a large conference at the property, (which I was a part of) but this was the norm for the three times I went to the restaurant / bar.

Great housekeeping staff. The bed was very squeaky and everytime I moved or shifted at night time, it woke me up. The bed was also too soft and I woke up several times during the night with intense back pain. My colleague, who also stayed at the Fairmont expressed the same issues. There is no sound proofing for the front door, so you can hear all the noise from the hallway, and similarly, people in the hallway can hear all the noise in the rooms. The bathroom water system is very loud and you can the sound of water running through when someone (in your room or in the next room) uses the water for the tap, toilet or shower. Also, I received $100 as a member of L'AccorHotels, confirmed that I could use it at Fairmont Empress spa, called to book and the staff said it was valid. On the day of my spa, they said it wasn't valid and needed to upgrade my room rate (this information was not included anywhere on the e-mail or the discount page and I wasted 2 hours of my time when I couldn't even use the discount code).

Hotel was lovely! High tea was a treat. The hot tub was very hot, almost too hot to enjoy. Unfortunately, there was an issue with valet. They did not give me keys when we left the hotel and when I stopped at a store I was unable to turn my car back on. I called the hotel and it took almost 15 minutes for them to find my keys. However, they did bring them to me within 10 minutes and no harm was caused.
