Stayed there a couple times now and I frequent the Fairmont brand. Every time I tried calling down for anything, breakfast the first day, to picking up my car the last day the phone didn't get answered it would ring and ring and ring. I was on hold for up to 5 min one time where I Just hung up and went down stairs to the front desk. When I did call for breakfast and someone finally answered I ordered coffee and a kombucha it too 45 min to deliver. Finally we went downstairs for breakfast the last day of our stay we waited 5 min to be seated in the restaurant, the restaurant may be had 5 tables full but we still waited 5 min. Love the Fairmont, but you guys are all about customer service and it was wildly out of touch with that this time round.

This was my first time staying at this particular Fairmont and it didn't disappoint. Check-in was quick, staff was friendly, my room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. I was attending a conference at the hotel and it was well organized, the food was good and everything went smoothly.

« Decent stay with a few hiccups »

On arrival, checked-in early (fantastic) but was given a room on 2nd floor right beside some fairly loud construction. I couldn't sleep, so requested to switch rooms (which was accommodated, but without the original king bed I had requested). The phone didn't work in the new room (I couldn't even call reception to fix it), but it was eventually replaced. Having instructions upfront for Wifi (not the business Wifi that you need to purchase) would be great (I had to call reception to ask). Also, the heaters are quite loud, but I understand the building is very old.

Check in was fast and we were allowed to check in early in the morning when our flight arrived. Was provided a later checkout at noon. And after our flights were cancelled due to weather, was able to get a room for the next two nights at the same rate - plus was able to get a room with a view!

« Stayed for two nights for a business conference. I've stayed at the Empress Hotel many times and with this stay, the level of guest service and friendliness from hotel staff has greatly improved. »

Very friendly staff overall, especially the Front Desk, Concierge, Bell Desk, and Doormen. Efficient and helpful. Special thanks to Deborah on the Concierge Desk who helped me book BC Ferry and BCF Connector bus transportation after my Harbour Air flight was cancelled due to snowy weather conditions. Deborah was fantastic and helpful. She is very good at her job and hopefully my comments will be passed on to her by the Empress Hotel management.

We were greeted so warmly at the reception desk and also given drink vouchers as it was my partners birthday we were celebrating. The room was lovely and there was cake, chocolates and bubbly waiting for us! All was very delicious. Our bed was very comfortable so we had a great night’s sleep. Our champagne breakfast brought by a delightful young man was superb and really made us feel so pampered. We had booked a massage each, a facial for me and a pedicure for my partner the amenities were beautiful. And the staff again pampering. We didn’t want to leave the Spa! I would recommend this to anyone.

Overall very nice stay on our honeymoon. We travelled from Vancouver and parking area is right at the basement, convenient. The newly renovated room is nice. Room is small in particular the bathroom size is so tiny and cold. The door closer is very noisy every now and then we heard the banging noise from next doors. It would be nice if apply electric curtain. Obviously the black out curtain could not be closed completely and I guess it is more for decoration purposes. Service is nice and we see many senior staff there to help. Last but not least, we love the shampoo amenities which was smooth and refreshing. Keep up with your good work. Thank you.

All staff was great. the restaurant food was a bit overpriced and not as good as the local restaurants around the hotel, but, to be expected in a bog hotel I suppose. The staff were absolutely wonderful and so was the atmosphere.

My experience at the Empress was exemplary as always, except for my experience with the on site spa. I find it quite unfortunate to have any complaint as I make a point to stay with Fairmont when ever I travel, but I found myself leaving the spa more frustrated than relaxed. When I booked the room I also booked a couples massage. As I was booking a couples massage I was under the impression the amount discussed was for that of a couple. The price was perfectly acceptable, and comparable to other facilities. I am aware as couples massages are something my partner and I enjoy together. Now, I was sent confirmation emails which the price was included on. I opened the first email and confirmed the price was that which we had discussed. When I arrived in Victoria I was contacted by the spa and told they needed to move my appointment time which I agreed on. An hour later I received another phone call asking me to move my appointment again, which I also agreed on. It changed my plans for the evening, but that was ok. So, time comes for the massage and my parter and I check in, have our massages, which I found disappointing. I requested a therapeutic massage and received a relaxation massage from a new employee. All of this would have been acceptable, but when I went to pay my bill the price was double what was discussed on the phone. I then learned that the price was per person. I found that to be very misleading as it was a couples massage, plus the price per person is comparable with that of most other facilities price for both people. I only had my credit card and room key at the moment and so no way to check my emails. I paid the bill and left not wanting to cause a scene and disrupt the rest of our evening which had already been altered by the spas unorganized schedule. I want to be very clear that every other aspect, down to the finest detail, was absolutely impeccable. We enjoyed the hospitality in the lobby and gift shops. We had an amazing experience enjoying high tea while being serenaded by piano. The stay was impeccable. Right down to the greeting dog Winston which we got a picture with prior to leaving. This is the first time of any of my stays that I have had any unsatisfactory experience. It’s not the cost of the massages that is the problem, although high, it’s the fact that the way it is set up is so misleading. It occurred to me that because the cost is so high maybe the price is per person to achieve exactly what happened to me. I booked the massage, went for it and did not realize the entirety of the cost until it was too last and difficult to debate. At any rate, I paid for it and am not asking for my money back, but would like to suggest that the way the price is communicated be changed so that in the future you don’t have more unsatisfied guests.
