« Great location for beach time and college visits to USC and UCLA »

Liked the location overall. Queen beds are preferable to doubles for 1 adult and 3 teens. Breakfast meals were great. Liked that bike use for the beach was included in $30 facility fee. Easy check-in. Helpful concierge. One suggestion: Everyone in our party had only one rolling bag so we handled our own luggage to the room. When we checked in our entrance to the hotel was not the main valet, but the side entrance. We realized we couldn't roll our luggage up the stairs so exited the main entrance to use a ramp, mistakenly got on the service elevator, then rode it back down, found the exit door to the ramp and moved along to the elevator to our room. The suggestion is to spruce up that ramp/service elevator area with better signage. Initially getting on that service elevator had my kids questioning if we were staying in a nice hotel. I assured them we were staying in a 4-star hotel.

« Fairmont confuses the need for a high quality hotel with need for a club. »

You have a very nice hotel in a great location. Friendly staff add to the experience. However, the noise from your club on the southern grounds made my stay rather disappointing. I would recommend to my friends not to stay at your hotel unless a room on the Nth side could be confirmed. Clearly your management have confused the importance of guest experience and the need for a club serving predominantly non hotel guests....

« Great stay after an uncomfortable start »

The first night was incredibly uncomfortable - the sofa bed in the pallisades suite was unsleepable even for our 2 small children (who are pretty light and who we had done a similar sleeping arrangement for at several previous hotels on our trip). We ended up having to take the mattress off the sofa bed and put it on the floor and then my husband ended up attempting to unsuccessfully sleep on it). Fortunately when I talked to reception the next morning they were able to relocate us to a different room with 2 double beds which saved our stay! The rest of the stay was lovely - room service was delicious and the pool surrounds (where we spent most of our time) were beautiful.

Overall things were good except our room was exceptionally noisy. From the thumping of music from Bungalows 8 floors below from 7pm til 2am both Friday and Saturday, to then being woken up 8am by the staff chatter in Spanish as we were just two doors from the housekeeping door, sleep was a rarity. Everything else was to our satisfaction. We did tell the front desk who refunded us the amenity fee and gave us a food an beverage comp. It was something because we didn't want to repack for one last night and this level of noise was unacceptable for a $500 room. What is the point of having a balcony if you can't sit peacefully on it or leave the door open a bit?

House Keeping needs to clean mold in shower. Room 211. Around shower dial and middle fixture on sliding door of bathtub. I liked having a refrigerator and down pillows. Very comfortable sleeping. We enjoyed hanging out at the lobby bar area after dinner. Good cookies and deserts.

« I always feel like the Fairmont is my home on the west coast. »

For the past 2 years I think of the Fairmont as my home away from home on the west coast. I see familiar faces and they know who I am. Always comforting. This last stay was slightly less tranquil because of all the events at the hotel, but the inconvenience didn’t ruin the experience. The Bungalow has become increasingly annoying. It is very loud. If I were to bring my family back I would not stay on that side of the hotel and if that were my only option I would stay at another hotel. I am not old and do enjoy socializing, but that level of noise is unacceptable. The only other criticism I have are the rooms. They are becoming outdated. The decor and bathrooms are not up to par.

Overall our stay at the Miramar was quite lovely. Our only negative comment would be the long wait for our dinner at The Fig restaurant; this was compensated by the server offering a complimentary dessert, which we had to decline, then by the manager who partially deducted our final bill.

« Great location but a bit overpriced for room »

The room was nice with comfortable bed, but not unlike any other hotel. The shower leaked and the water temperature would fluctuate. The hotel was in a great location and the view was amazing, but for the pricing I would have expected more. For instance, one would expect services, such as free wifi, but they charged.
