« I have a nice experience at Fairmont Santa Monica! »

First, when we checked in on Jan 2nd at 4pm our suite was not ready yet and we wait about 40 minutes to get in our suite. ( the young lady at club member check in desk offered us 100 dollars dining credit to compensate) I'm wondering why it happened during weekday on Tuesday, maybe some guests were having late check out. But when we requested a late check out on Jan 4th morning, we were told that we can't have a late check out! We need to check out at 12pm because all the rooms were booked. There is no benefit for the club member to have late check out? Second, the first night when we back from dinner as we were walking to the back entrance. We saw several valet parking staffs were playing a guest car together. Which is a red lamborghini car. Some were taking pictures and two were testing driving. It's none of our business but we feel not comfortable about that! We never know when will our car will be treating like that next time. Third, we enjoyed the Fig restaurant foods both for a dinner and a late breakfast. But there is something I'd like to recommend for improving. Two times of visit at the restaurant, two servers both didn't introduce themselves at the very beginning. We don't know their name.( maybe they have a name tags) but it's more polite to introduce themselves to their guests. We visited Fig at happy hour time and the menu were not all for the happy hour menu. ( We actually didn't there for the half price. It's because our kids are hungry) When we ordered some not happy hour items our server tried to remind us those were not half price dishes. It made me feel not comfortable although she may just want to help us. If the restaurant can provide happy hour menu instead of using regular dinner menu will be better! Besides those three concerns, we did enjoy our stay at Fairmont Miramar. I'd like to recommend my friends and families to stay at your hotel when they are around Santa Monica Area.

So easy to book, so well received at the door and reception. As I said, amazing staff. But the price of the room for what I got was pretty lackluster. I felt like that room could have been any hotel.

« Below average »

Initially put in an “upgraded” room overlooking the AC unit. Always waited for cheques at the restaurant; Twice we left while waiting. Had a terrible experience at the spa during our couples massage. One of the staff was extremely grumpy. Weren’t notified of a private event and we weren’t able to use the hot tub during it. I come to LA for business several times a year and have stayed with you twice. Not as good as I would expect from the Fairmont.

« Exactly what I expected with a minor hiccup »

We wanted an A1 experience at the best hotel that Santa Monica could offer. It's a tough location because Ocean Avenue and a deep beach separates the hotels from the water (except for the Loews which isn't a top class hotel). In the end, we got what we came for, but our initial experience was completely infuriating. We arrived at 10:30a.m. and expected to drop our bags and go to the Getty. But the check-in agent said "your room is vacant and we can get you in early". He called housekeeping and either asked them to start cleaning or discovered they already were. So we expected a 30 minute wait and decided to wait. After an hour, I inquired what was going on. The same gentleman called housekeeping again and told me "15 minutes". (it's now 11:30). At 12:00, I go to the desk and am helped by Allison (after waiting in line because now other guests have arrived in earnest) and am told "you can't get into your room". At this point I am not only unhappy I am totally furious. "There are some missing amenities in your room and I cannot issue a key". Turns out Allison is the front-end supervisor and this is the definitive, final statement. I am absolutely fit to be tied. But no sense throwing a fit. She in no way apologized or made me feel heard or accommodated. I was just furious. I walked to the concierge and said quietly and politely "can you give me the name of the front end supervisor's boss. I am the most furious I have ever been in a hotel right now. I am going to wait a few hours and then call." He was quite sympathetic and gave me the general manager contact info and we left. I did calm down :-) but I did not call. We got a text message at 1:30 telling us "congratulations you can get into your room early". 3 hours from when we were told "oh, you can get into your room". What should have happened: "your room is vacant but we don't know how long it will be before it is actually available". This is what we expected and we would have just left. But was really infuriating was the unsympathetic and uncaring attitude we got from Allison at a time we were extremely unhappy. Bad timing (I was already mad) and response (completely unsympathetic) on her part. As it was, that 90 minute delay was costly because it cut short our stay at the Getty (parking was horrible). When we returned at 4:30 or so, Allison was not at the front desk, I mentioned to the check-in agent who provided us our key that we were pretty unhappy earlier and he immediately provided the same general manager contact info (without our asking). I thanked him and went up to our very nice room. The good news is that the incredible haze and gloom that had predominated the shoreline in Santa Monica from Christmas day had completely evaporated by sunset on December 29. It was glorious. Room service was yummy and prompt. We had the sunset in the room that I had been envisioning all week (but had despaired that the weather and fires was going to ruin). I was out of the room around 4:45 when Allison called the room and spoke with my wife. She apologized, said that the hotel staff had acted in error and said she was taking 30% off of our room. I was very impressed and gratified by this gesture because I had, in fact, not called the general manager yet. So, in the end, I think the right thing happened and we were happy with our stay. Plusses: - The Fig is a wonderful restaurant. The waiter (Jeremy?, bald hispanic man) we had was exquisite. Please give him a raise. - The property is well maintained and beautiful. - The ocean view rooms on the end are very nice, if a touch small. - The package (breakfast + valet parking) was a great value. - The staff was universally wonderful with the one exception noted above. - The sound deadening is great, can't hear Ocean Avenue at all with the sliding door closed. You should read the review of the Georgian I posted many years ago ("it felt like the Big Blue Bus was running down the middle of our room"). - Free water at valet - Room service - Nice robes already in the room Minuses: - Ocean Avenue, traffic, etc. Not much you can do about that - No chocolates at turn-down service, really? - That weird shower door configuration in the tub, please lose that. - Can't order glasses of wine from the tablet for room service. - So had to call to order room service and then there was no way to clear the cart of food items I had built only to find out I couldn't order individual glasses of wine. I'm from Hawaii. We call that tree a banyan tree. :-) Never knew it was some kind of fig tree.

« disappointing »

we had good experiences at Fairmont in other locations. But at the location in Santa Monica, given the price paid, we were quite disappointed. The room was small, the new year celebration brought the noise (should give us discount, since it brought revenue to the hotel at our loss), very noisy restaurants, etc. Two different staffs promised to deliver complementary bottled water, none of them delivered.

« Nice to come back home »

It's always pleasant to return the Miramar. We have been returning for many years. The people working there really give it a very warm feeling. This includes all if the front desk personnel (esp. Allyson), the waitstaff at the Lobby Lounge (esp. Mark), the valets personnel, and the cleaning staff have all been very friendly. The rooms are always well kept. We always stay in a Palisades suite and it is very nice but whenever I fill these forms out I always mention the fact that the bathrooms really need to be modernized, especially considering the price of the suites. Most comparable hotels would have two sinks and a separate shower from the tub. It really should be updated. That is my only criticism.

I don't like some of the new features. Change in room service menu: food less choices, not as good quality. I don't like ordering on the tablet. Nice gym. Despite asking the fold out bed wasn't made up when we arrived after 11 pm.

« Nice hotel, good location. »

Stay was fine, however, my daughter in law and I got food poisoning at lunch. I threw up for hours and hours and she was also very stomach sick. We both had the same salad. i told management and they argued with me about the time frame in which we were both sick, which is ridiculous. and also argued that no one else was sick. They should have comped our meal, and offered some kind of credit. pool is small and in the shade..

Overall it was a wonderful experience. Shortcoming were: - The room was outdated decor-wise. - No hot water for shower on a couple of days. - Water view would have been ideal.
