We had worked miracles to get my father to SF to witness the wedding of my daughter, his first grandchild. In doing so, it was imperative that he be in comfort, fully surrounded by his family at any moment and supported by an establishment that would make his stay seamless and easy. The Fairmont is the only establishment who's standard of service and comfort far exceed any expectations and needs. My daughter and her husband ordered their bouquet and boutonniere from the floral shop, a very early room service order was right on time, the corner suite and attached room was fabulous for the Bridal Suite (and Grandpa!) and the men were just down the hall... all organized by the Fairmont to maintain an ease that soothed our already jittery happy nerves. Our stay was just as fabulous as the one 2 years prior when my husband and I married at the glorious City Hall. We are making a family tradition now and the pictures we have for memories are epic.

Location was great. The first night we went to bed and my wife was like "What's that on the bed?" and it was some sort of bug in room 725 (not even lying) that was too fast for me to catch. We both live in the country so bugs don't really scare me but it was kind of a turn off for what is supposed to be a 5 star hotel. I'd stay here again, but they wanted $75/night to upgrade my room. Not happening. They should just offer room upgrades for free in my opinion because the hotel is old. It's not like you're staying on Maui and are getting an Ocean View upgrade - it's just a view of San Francisco and there are plenty of places in the city like Marin Headlands to get a better view of the city. Besides, who is actually in their room when visiting San Francisco. My main purpose of staying here was to attend the Metallica/SF Symphony show and see the city. The hotel is in a great location for both of those things. One final word of advice, do not purchase passports for the cable cars. They load up at Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf (huge lines) and they completely blow by this stop, even if there is room on the cable cars. I had several operators say "Wait for the next car" when there was visible room to jump on and then we'd wait and the next operator would say "Next car" and drive by. Complete garbage. I'm currently disputing the $58 we paid for passports with SF Muni and my Credit Card company because it's not a viable means of transportation on weekends during the day.

We had a great time at the hotel with an awesome view of the bay. Our only bad experience was with the spa treatment my wife had. Her masseuse was too talkative which made for an unrelaxing experience. When the spa desk attendant asked how the experience was, his response was 'that's why I don't get massages when I travel.' I found this reply to be entirely inappropriate and made a bad experience worse. We specifically selected you hotel as one of the only properties in the city with an in house spa. Now, this experience will stick out in my mind when someone asks me about whether to stay here, which is unfortunate given how everything else about your property was exemplary.

The sofa bed in our corner suite (242) should be an embarrassment to your organization. Thin mattress.... felt like sleeping across a railroad track. The sofa bed must be 20 years old. I have stayed in first class hotels where the sofa bed was very comfortable so it can be done. $750 should buy a comfortable nights sleep!

We stayed three nights, Thurs, Fri, Sat on the 7th (top) floor of the older part - we ahd wall view. This hotel is pricy - we wouldn't recommend it for anyone on a budget.

The Fairmont is truly beautiful and I was impressed with the room size and how quiet it was despite how big of a hotel it is. I did find service to be lacking at times though. We asked the concierge for a late-night dining recommendation and he simply responded "everything is closed" (turns in, this wasn't the case). We also were charged for a minibar item that we didn't purchase and am still trying to rectify this situation.

the hotel room and staff were fabulous-there needs to be better control of the dinner patrons at the Tonga room- i had reservations for 7:30 pm and could not get to the front desk to alert them that we were present-the movement was blocked by others waiting to obtain a table and or reservation. the hostess was not very helpful at first until i let her know i had been waiting for almost 15 minutes and was not allowed to pass the people without reservations-there is a definite need for better control of the crowd-food was wonderful-breakfast could be improved upon--food cold and better selection needed-once again staff was great-i will be back- don h.
