« Lobby totally ruined by large crowds of drunken adults and out of control children looking at the Christmas tree and Gingerbread House. »

I have stayed at the Fairmont SF many times. The staff are efficient, helpful and unfailingly polite. The hotel is well located and beautifully maintained.. However , as I pointed out to the manager, Fairmont needs to decide on its priorities and whether it is running a public service or cars about paying hotel guests. Every night, but especially at the weekends, hordes of people are allowed to swarm in to the lobby making it uninhabitable for anyone staying in the hotel. In addition the hotel sets up bars in the lobby leading to an atmosphere between a football crowd and a school playground. Personally I will not stay at the hotel again at this time of year and once I have found another place to stay who knows if I will return to the Fairmont. All in all a very disappointing stay from this point of view and I know that my opinions are shared by many of the staff of the hotel. Finally, I wonder what Fairmont thinks about the security implications of this huge, unchecked inflow of people coming in to the hotel every night and all day Saturday and Sunday?

Not a positive experience - lots of little things not done well starting with not being able to check in when we were told we could. Perhaps my expectation was too high, my last visit to San Francisco was spent at the Hotel Drisco where a guest’s satisfaction is of the utmost importance. I won’t be staying at the Fairmont again. But the I suspect, you probably don’t care...

Positive: Beautiful hotel, location, room and festive holiday atmosphere. Negative: Should provide complementary water in room. Wanted to charge my wife to use gym because she is not fairmont presidents club member. Average gym at that. Never had that experience at any other fairmont and embarrassing.

« Beautiful hotel, super comfortable bed »

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous- and they were decorated for Christmas with a giant tree and all kinds of holiday displays and lights. Although the bed was very comfy, once I pulled down the blind, it was stuck and I could not raise it in the morning. The dinner service seemed to be slow, and the options for a light dinner were scarce; though the food was very good.

« Nice place, just not "over the top" for the money you pay. »

I would have to say that the view, the facility, room, etc were all really nice. What I just can't believe is that every person in that facility doesn't go out of their way to say hello or good morning, or how are you. When you spend any amount of money, common courtesy shouldn't cost extra. Employees walking through the halls with their heads down to not make contact or on their cell phones texting. Doesn't make sens.

« Glorious. »

Everything was wonderful from the check-in, to the room, to the decor, to the restaurant, to the staff. The only issue was when a maintenance person kicked my door upon misdelivering a notice to fix the HVAC in my room, which I never called in a complaint about. He startled the crap out of me. When I went to investigate the noise, I found him in the hall and asked what this was all about. He clearly was not expecting me to be opening the door. I told him I never called in a service complaint about the HVAC or anything. He apologized. The issue was over. But overall, the hotel was excellent and I would stay again next time I am in SF.

« Exhorbitant overcharging to my account »

The stay was fabulous - beautiful room and great service. However, the erroneous charges to my credit card after checkout - amounting to over $500 at one point - took a week of my time and a lot of stress communicating with the Fairmont and my bank to try to get the erroneous charges corrected. I won't stay at the Fairmont again, although it's been my favorite. It's not worth what I had to go through afterward - after making the reservation in May, and after checking out in November. Something is seriously wrong with the billing department at the Fairmont. On a positive note, kudos to Derick in the bar for always being so friendly and welcoming, and providing such great service at the bar!

From the minute we arrived we were greeted with smiles great service and genuine excitement. Special accommodations were made as soon as our receptionist found out it was our anniversary. Our room was excellent. The Fairmont knows how to do it right we plan to return on our next visit to San Francisco.

We had a wonderful time in your first class property. I stay 100+ nights a year in hotels and I expect a lot out of high end properties. My only wish was for your elevators to have worked while I was there, but I completely understand the situation. I will be back next December.

« Could have been better »

2 big complaints: 1) NOISY housekeeping staff at all times of the day, including when it was time to sleep at night. They left their cleaning materials, applicances etc outside of my room door, leaving me having to manoeuvre my way around the items when I had to go in or out of the room. 2) BLOOD STAINS on long decorative pillow on the bed. I don't see how your housekeeping staff could have missed this, cos the stains were splattered across the covers of that pillow. What frustrated me was the pillow was in contact with the (I hope) clean sheets of the bed, and that I was too tired that night to realise I was sleeping with the pillow with me on the bed. Very bad experience. Told front desk staff at checkout. They couldn't have done much apart from apologising anyway, tho I thought perhaps reassuring this would not happen again/ giving me some form of vouchers/ redirecting my complaint to someone in charge of housekeeping would have been preferable. My one night stay at Fairmont SF has created an undesirable impression. I was staying at the Fairmont for official business, and I had hoped the hotel could have been a good experience too for my first time in San Francisco.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Food, service and accommodations exceeded expectations. The only problem is there should be a shelf in the bathroom to place bathroom necessities, particularly when there are two people in the room.

Excellent service, housekeeping, front desk, only issue was elevators out of order for entire 4 night stay which the only elevator working was the Penthouse elevator everyone was directed to, waits of up to 20 min to use that elevator. It would have been nice to had to option to stay in the other tower or compensated for our time and inconvenience. Surprised that the staff just shrugged the issue. The other issue was that staff were using that elevator to deliver room service, which meant that only one or two additional guests would have room in that same elevator vs. 6-7 guests as the room service cart took up most of the space.

« I had my expectations blown away »

Everything was better than I had imagined. Just siting in the lobby of this historic hotel justified the cost of the room. Speaking of which, the room was much larger than I had anticipated and was decorated nicely. Overall, I had an excellent time, even if only for a night, and will definitely be booking a longer stay in the near future.

« Holiday Party Stay »

Great, lively atmosphere. The room was clean and inviting. The bed was quite comfortable. I sleep with a cracked window, so it would have been nice to have warmer cover, comforter. Very pleasant and responsive staff. My snack came in 20 minutes and breakfast was quite quick too. I will definitely be back.
