« A peaceful and luxurious stay. »

I have to say that the staff at this Fairmont location are incredible. Everyone was genuinely pleasant and helpful.The room was excellent and the beds very comfortable. We stayed to attend a wedding there and it was beautiful. I am not sure when I will be back in San Diego, but when I do, I will be staying at the Fairmont.

« One of the best hotel experiences I've had »

Stayed here for a conference. Have travelled a bit. I was impressed by the warm and accommodating attitudes of the staff, the comfort of the room, the quality of the food, and the beauty of the hotel and grounds. In many instances, a hotel will be strong in one area and not so great in another. The Grand Del Mar had all of its bases covered. I look forward to coming back.

My wife and I would stay at the Grand del Mar when ever we needed a weekend away. It was a great place to go to the spa, relax by the pool and enjoy the hotel. How things have changed. The first night we ordered room service, when it was delivered our drinks were missing. We pointed this out and the employee said he'd grab them and be right back, by the time he came back with our drinks we had already finished dinner. He also forgot to have me sign the bill when I pointed this out he responded, "I don't have the check with me so don't worry about it" so until checkout I had no idea what we were charge or even if it was correct. I also pointed out to him that a light in our room was flickering and could he ask someone to change it. He only responded to this, "your right it is flickering, I'd just leave it turned off". Really? While at the adult pool the pool staff wasn't in the mood I guess to help guest so most of use were hunting down our own towels and setting up our own chairs. It also took me 30 minutes to get one of your pool staff to take a food order and when the food came it was worse then fast-food, chips were stale and the chicken quesadilla was floating in grease and missing the chicken. I would of loved to have pointed this out to our server but they just disappeared, I had to eventually ask another server to get the check, which in hindsight we should just left. Also, the whole 5 hours I was at the pool I observed a towel floating have in/out of the water, watching your pool staff step over it refusing to pick it up. Regarding our room, my wife grab a towel in the bathroom to use and it was stained with makeup. There was some sort of plastic pieces in the bed which we had to remove ourselves. The only reason I gave a 2 rating was the Spa staff was outstanding. I did relay all of this to the front desk when I checked out but I have yet to hear anything from hotel management, I overheard another front desk person apologizing to another guest for something and said the hotel manager would be contacting her. I guess I wasn't important enough to deserve a phone call, classy. You're listed as a 5 star hotel, I don't think so. I'm currently completing a letter stating all of this to the hotel manager and cc the Fairmont President. I will also be sharing our experience on Trip advisor.

I felt at home in a beautiful serene environment. The room was beautiful, comfortable and relaxing. The staff was fantastic They were always helpful and always with genuine smile.

The staff at the Grand Del M. were very helpful but not over the top helpful. We have stayed at other 5 Star hotels where they went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The staff is a little more reserved.

Excellent. Absolutely no complaints. Amanda at the pool was outstanding on our last day at the hotel. She was so welcoming and treated us as if we were her own guests. Very thankful for the experience while we attended a wedding.

We had a wonderful visit. The room was spacious and service at Amaya was very good. Service at the pool....not so much, on a few occasions we had to set up our own chairs and garbage was left around for much too long. Disappointed that room service menu is the same at Amaya's restaurant but the food is good.

This was our second visit to the Fairmont Del Mar. We were well cared for and things were splendid. The layout is positively Byzantine, however, so be prepared to both walk for ages and get lost often. Also, quite odd that there was no ice machine within hiking distance of our room. The grounds are stunning, and we found ourselves often reminded of Tuscany. I do think the poolside services could use a little work, as we occasionally found ourselves having to search out staff for service. But on the whole, things were very nice. The cabana service was unremarkable given the price ($295). The poolside food and drink was all, as per usual, obscenely overpriced, but that is to be expected. It was all very posh, but when I do the cabana at the Four Seasons, they fall all over me to tend to every one of my and my family's needs. When I showed up at the pool on the first day, the bewildered employees poolside didn't seem to know anything about my reservation. I don't mean to complain; everyone was nice enough. But when you drop $295 for a set of chairs and some shade, you expect people to at the very least fawn over you. Maybe I'm unrealistic. As fond as I am of our Fairmont Del Mar experience, I can't help but find myself constantly comparing it to our Four Seasons experiences, which, truth be told, are better. Alas there is no comparable Four Seasons in the San Diego area (excluding a quasi-hotel option) so we accept Del Mar happily. The complete absence of music poolside (unless you are underwater) is also a little odd. The exceptionally family friendly nature of the resort is delightful. We loved how many families with younger children were around. Our daughters (6 and 11) latched on to several of the other kids poolside, and the couples and other families were great. Nice not to have to deal with drunken 20 somethings. Did brunch al fresco at the hotel restaurant and found it odd that the gardeners were wandering around with leaf blowers. Nothing like $14 yogurt and granola with a shot of leaf blower exhaust. Can they really not wait until later in the day? The tennis lesson option we opted in for was A BLAST. Can't remember the instructor's name but she was lovely, and my wife and older daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our hour lesson court-side. Kudos also for the complimentary ice cold water available when we finished. The room was delightful, and the terrific blackout shades led to our daughters at long last sleeping in. The housekeeping services were impressive. We were floored to discover, after our first night, that the housekeepers had realized we were worried about our daughter falling off the bed and had, without any request from us, put up a bedside guard. Really impressive. Left a fat tip for these gals just for that little courtesy alone. So on balance, if you're looking for a little luxury outside of San Diego proper, and you want to be treated well in a gorgeous setting, you could do a lot worse than to book a room at the stunning Fairmont Del Mar. We will likely be back.

While the resort was beautiful and our stay was very nice, during the booking process I had made two requests following prompting from the employee. She asked if we would like to request early check-in. I said yes because we stayed to attend a wedding, which began at 5pm. I asked for 2:30, but we didn't get access to the room until 4:00 and our luggage arrived 15+ minutes after that. She asked if we needed extra pillows. I said yes and requested two extra foam pillows. There were four pillows on the bed - 2 feather and 2 foam, which was fine, but it didn't seem like any extra were provided. It seemed like the normal bedding.

Very disappointed Old fashioned. Very bad signage kept on getting lost. Staff had no idea how to direct and very bad breakfast. Room had a smell of cigarettes asked to be moved and next room smelt the same. Very dark rooms

Staff was friendly but was a major disconnect between the concierge and the horse back riding facility. we had numerous attempts go unresolved in booking our ride and then confusion due to weather along with getting left at the riding facility for 40 minutes waiting for van to pick us back up. Restaurants were full almost every night we were there and no help in trying to secure another reservation.

« Amazing hotel »

From check in to check out the experience was amazing, we don't normally get the opportunity to stay in such beautiful properties but are so glad we were given the opportunity to stay here. All the staff were amazing, nothing was to much trouble, they were polite, uniforms crisp and over all extremely friendly. The flowers in the lobby were exquisite! The cocktails were amazing, and the Gelato and Ham and cheese croissants, and oreo cookies I want to come back just to have these again :)
