Brought my parents for an overnight staycation. The property, spa, staff, facilities and amenities were wonderful as always. Our suite was luxurious and our morning breakfast was outstanding! Highly recommend for a terrific experience!!!

Staff very attentive but two areas of disappointment. 1. Coffee shop breakfast menu very limited when leaving the hotel before the restaurant was open and 2. I was unabke to obtain a booking at any hitel restaurant on one evening

« Nice but would be great with slight improvements »

Room was lovely and staff was very nice. Attention to detail like no chips in our coffee mugs and replacing wine glasses would help. I finally washed them myself so they wouldn’t be taken away:). But, overall good. Pro shop, Mark was excellent.

« The Best Hotel or Resort that I Have Ever Stayed At!!!! »

Beautiful grounds and while I had one of the cheaper rooms, it was amazing and very spacious..... High End and quality bedding, plus touches of quality that completed this amazing room..... Everything is on site, a beautiful Golf Course, Tennis Courts and a few Beautiful Pools.... Fairmont Grand Del Mar is GRAND indeed....

Not a single detail is missed at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar. The moment your car door is opened by one of the valet's, to the check--in desk handing you a warm towel for your hands, the perfect cocktails in the lobby bar, the scrumptious meal at Amaya and ending with turn-down service including a chocolate covered Oreo and a bottle of water on your nightstand, you know you're special and you're being well taken care of. Find any excuse to stay here!

Luxurious, but at the same time quite cozy ~ for whatever reason we were upgraded to a suite, which was very lovely. My only issue was I wish we had been so informed at the desk when we checked in ~ it caused me some consternation and I finally called the font desk to clarify that I hadn't requested such grandeur.

The grounds are beautiful and the service was good, however there were not many notable WOW moments that set this resort apart from others. The only issue we had was at the Cafe. There was only one female worker. We ordered two coffees and the last 2 ham and cheese croissants on display. She said it would be a moment so we went to the store and came back about 3 minutes later, at which point she told us she only had 1 croissant left. There was a gentleman who ordered right after us, and his coffee and food was given to him prior to our order being made. She had not even started on our beverages when we returned after three minutes, but had time to cater to the man in line after us which left a poor feeling with us. We were left wondering if he had ordered a ham and cheese croissant and it was for some reason given to him over us, as his order clearly took priority.

Stayed for a weekend getaway and this property is truly gorgeous. All facilities are well maintained, and even the smallest things aren't overlooked. The furniture in the room was comfortable and clean, the storage was wet generous, the features of the room were well appointed and it was relaxing from the first moment of stepping into the room. The public spaces are equally beautiful and everything is definitely well taken care of - seating, restrooms, hallway decor etc. - all close to perfect. The pool areas were well taken care of, for outside spaces - it's hard to keep up with leaves and bugs - and the furniture was also well maintained and comfy. Really, the only "bad" things to say about this particular trip was the food overall was not great. Had dinner at The Grill and that was truly a not good meal. The chicken was tough, the veggies were undercooked, the Caesar was overdressed and underbalanced from an ingredient standpoint, and the flatiron steak (I think that was the name) was unevenly prepeared and too spicy, and we like spice! Service was okay, a bit less attentive than the price should command, but really, the food was the problem. Will not go back to The Grill, will stick with sitting at the lobby bar or room service if Amaya is unavailable again. Food at the main pool was quite good - salads for both of us - but the bees were such a problem we had to finish quickly. The bartender/server was very helpful and apologetic and did his best to help. The service at ththe adult pool was friendly, if you could find them. We had to give up after waiting to get our two mimosa drink bill, after 20 minutes of not seeing the server. All this said, we will totally come back again. Have been here a few times now, and this is by far the nicest hotel in San Diego. Will remember to make reservations at Amaya or Addison next time for dinner, and will again enjoy the lobby bar live music and service, as that whole experience was also fantastic.

« Not up to our standards »

My husband and I attended a 8 day event at your hotel with multiple dining experiences and 4 rounds of golf. The main problems included: Food poising from a hamburger ordered at the golf course restaurant. Both my husband and I got an upset stomach but I was totally incapacitated for 24 hours and had to miss the opening night black tie dinner for the event we were attending. I was not happy about that at all. As we prepaid for the event I was not able to get a refund. I was so sick we called the advice nurse for our health plan at 3AM to get suggestions on how to deal with the food poising. I was just minutes away from going to the hospital. Then I believe it was Monday October 16 we were about to take a shower at 5PM only to find out there was no hot water. The hot water was off for close to 12 hours. This is totally unacceptable for a hotel. We were in desperate need of showering and washing hair and had to do this in ice cold water. Believe me I was not happy with the Fairmont. The food at several of the planned events related to our group was not very good. Meat was over cooked and many items were over spiced or too salty. The food at the outdoor event on October 16 was the worst. The best planned lunch we had was on Friday Oct 20 with a make-it-yourself salad bar. The only good thing is that I came home thinner than when I left for the trip because of my food poisoning and the mediocre meals served. We have another trip in two weeks to Chicago and have reservations to stay at the Fairmont for 4 nights. I hope our expeience there will be much improved from your property at Del Mar. Please think about how you would like to make up for this less than 5 star experience. Jan & Bob N. ne… 65…

We had excellent service in some parts of our stay and poor in other parts. The property was beautiful and very peaceful which we really liked but felt like we couldn't have the best experience due to some of the service challenges.

I always enjoy staying at Fairmont properties. Since the Newport Beach property switched ownership I have been spending more time at The Grand Del Mar. Foods and Customer service are wonderful, the property has a magic all its own. My suite was located next to the reflection pool which added an extra layer of tranquility.
