Overall, very unimpressive. A request for ice had to be repeated three more times. Eventually we carried our ice bucket up three floors to the bar to get ice ourselves. Dinner at the restaurant was not edible. Valet parking charge for one in and out was exorbitant ($40) and never explained to us in advance. Golf course was severely overbooked and play was beyond slow. Coffee machine in the room did not work. Clock did not work. Small tv unit did not work. Unacceptable at this price point.

The grounds were great. The room was great. The staff in the store next to the spa were awesome. Unfortunately the cell service was sub par and someone needs to contact google to fix the guidance to the hotel. In addition we had a roach in our room. When I explained these issues to the young woman at the front desk she didn't seem to care and dismissed my wife and I.

We really enjoyed staying at the Fairmont. It was clear the hotel was a step above its competition. All the housekeeping staff were great, the check in process was great, valet and bellmen were nice, and the workers at the Amaya restaurant were top notch. The Amaya staff sent a birthday gift to my daughter once we told them it was her birthday. Very sweet. However, on the Friday of the week we stayed, things started to fall. The hotel got very crowded for an event. We came back from shopping, and could find NO parking spots for self parking. So we did have to drive up and wait to be helped from valet and explain our problem. Thankfully they valet parked the car and comped us the difference in price. Very nice to do, but I would have appreciated a separate lot for the "event" parking, so a hotel guest didn't have to check 10 lots before deciding they were full! Also, we had booked two reservations and the last night was on a separate reservation. Thankfully, the hotel was able to allow us to stay in the same room (very much appreciated). However, all of a sudden a rollaway bed appeared in our room the last day, and we already had a crib in there for our one child. It must had been something I put on the 1 night reservation, so no big deal. However, I called for housekeeping to take the bed away as soon as we returned. It took housekeeping about 2-3 hours to take it away. Not a big deal, however, the next day at checkout we were charged for the rollaway! I explained what happened, and was promised it would be taken off. However, I have yet to confirm that because my credit card still hasn't been charged a week later. Also, my "last" night was booked on a reservation that included free champagne. At 7pm, we still had not received the champagne, so I called the front desk asking about it. They said they were running behind, but the champagne would be there and they would check on it for me. At 9pm, still no champagne, and since we had a 3 year old, we had to put our "do not disturb" sign on. Bottom line- we never did receive the champagne. False advertising, or just so slow they still weren't to our room by 9pm?? We checked out the next morning for an early flight, so we couldn't ask for it the next day. Lastly, we checked out after the receptionist was somewhat chewed out by a very rude customer. I know she was not probably very happy once it was my turn (I did initially try to go up to another receptionist so I didn't have to wait on the rude lady to finish, who said she was going "get someone else for me" but never did...??), but upon me requesting the check-out information, she was rude and defensive when I was inquiring of charges. Also, since I had "another" longer reservation, she didn't give me that and I had to request it once I figured out the issue. One question I had was about the Accor points I requested to be used when I checked in. I didn't see it on the bill (later discovered it was on the first reservation bill). But her initial response was she didn't know what points I was talking about and I am not allowed to use them. The funny thing was, once we got the first bill, they had been used, so no issue. However, I thought it odd the receptionist told me I couldn't use them and acted like I was crazy for asking initially! She was probably just somewhat poorly trained on the Accor program. I would also say no one in the hotel seemed to know anything about the Accor program. We are gold members, and never once was it mentioned that we were. I think we got all the benefits of being a "gold" member, but we weren't quite sure as no one explained. I think the program is very poorly run (not necessarily the Grand Del Mar's fault, but Fairmont's). Overall, my experience was good. However, like most hotels, once the crowds were there, service was not quite as good.

It was fabulous. I didn’t even know your hotel was there. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. Loved our weekend and your hotel did a fabulous job on the wedding we attended. Thank you for your expertise.

It was busy 2 days with meetings while we were there, but room as big, and very well done. The staff at teh desk was fast and friendly.

I LOVED my room! It would have been nice if the champagne had been there earlier as I could not enjoy it before I left for the wedding. The hair and makeup appointment was a huge disappointment. I literally redid both my hair and my makeup when I got back to my room. It was horrible! Other than that the room was luxurious. The staff was so courteous. Beautiful weekend!

Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. Concierge staff was incredibly helpful and very personable. Amenities were great. Appreciated having sunscreen available at the pools and waters readily provided. Everyone gave helpful tips in making the most of our first visit to San Diego and the resort.

Service overall great! Overpriced beverages in bar. Didn’t have feather free in my room at first, quickly turned it around. Property tired especially in guest rooms for what you pay for, views and landscape gorgeous. Market was great. The commercial picture frame in guest room is the devil; mine was malfunctioning all night and was unable to unplug so had a strobe light all night and didn’t sleep for more than 30 mins at a time.

We have stayed at several Fairmont properties and Grand Del Mar lived up to the reputation. We thought the service was excellent everywhere we went. Our suite was set up well with a nice view. The food at every location we visited was incredible. Our children were treated like royalty, and we were able to do everything we set out to do. We will return again when San Diego travels call.

Given a very long history with Fairmont Hotels, I know what to expect from them. This stay exceeded my expectations. The Grand Del Mar is an exceptionally beautiful hotel and it is run in the traditional style of a grand hotel, as it should be.
