Booked a Junior Suite. Arrived at 4pm for check-in. Room was not ready. Was told would take an hour. I asked for an upgrade due to the delay. Was given a corner suite and asked for my number to receive a phone text to notify me when the room would be ready. 2 hours later, no text, I decide to go to the front desk and inquire. I was told the room was indeed ready and they didn't know why the text had no sent. Once in room 240, I discovered that the AC was leaking on the bedroom carpet. A towel was left in a ball under the ac unit by maintenance. The attendant who helped bring the bags up was embarrassed by the situation and called a manager called Mina. Mina offered to move me to a smaller room which I decline, instead wanting an equal or greater room. After a back and forth lasting until 8pm, we were finally accommodated in room 596. While walking in the hallway, we came across what appeared to be the ceiling plaster falling down on the floor. The fallen plaster took up half the width of the hallway and it appeared no effort was done to clean it up or at least prevent people from stepping over it. The next morning I had the chance to speak to Carmine, the front desk manager, who apologized and offered me 20% off my night stay. Although appreciated, I believed it to be the bare minimum since 20% off equal the amount of time lost of the enjoyment of the room I rented. (4pm-8pm = 20% of a stay of 4pm-12pm the next day). I asked Carmine if I could get a credit for my next stay since I travel to Ottawa on business frequently and would love to give the Chateau Laurier a second chance. Ive stayed at several Fairmont properties in the past and always had enjoyable experienced. This was the first negative one. He told me he would have to speak to the executive and he would get back to me in a few days. A few days later, he contacted me to say that he sadly couldn't yield to such a request. Quite disappointing considering the horrible and tiring experience I had over my weekend at the property. I contact Claude Sauve, General Manager in hopes of rectifying the situation but alas, I received a letter which albeit beautifully crafted with him taking the blame, lacked any action to remedy the situation. Highly disappointed in what I believed to be an upscale establishment. This puts in question the integrity of the Chateau Laurier and by extension the Fairmont brand and Accord Hotel group.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, albeit too short (just one night), at the Fairmont. It is a beautiful hotel! The rooms are comfortable and spacious, and the staff very helpful and friendly. And my daughter loved the pool!

A very nice hotel but shocking with TV programmes had to pay if wanted to see a Film. Car park was closed, if parked with hotel it was more than parking in the public car park. You don't charge your guest for parking so much. I don't think will be staying again in Fairmont again

The staff were excellent as usual, and we must remember that the staff are the hotel's most valuable asset. The building is getting a little tired - doors not adjusted and a little smelly of mildew. Definitely not the previous Fairmont high standard. Coffee was not available at the front lobby, so had to buy at the restaurant - for an expensive room, a coffee costs nothing as does a croissant (realy - no free coffee?). The in-room Nespresso coffee is gut rot awful. Surprised to see small shampoo bottles rather than the larger ones in the suite. My upgrade was wonderful and the suite well furnished.

room was lovely, perfect view however; Nespresso machine did not work (only spit out a tablespoon of liquid that was cold) and probably would have been fixed earlier but someone took my breakfast card from the door and replaced it with a do not disturb sign while I was at dinner. When it was finally replaced it too did not work, it wouldn't shut off. Good thing I stood there watching it or else, what a mess that would have been. I thought housekeeping came twice a day to refresh, front desk told me I had to specifically request it. Breakfast on the first morning was of course late because of the card mishap and had no bacon or sausage or potato. Second day, same in room service delivery man, his name escapes me, was wonderful. Polite and friendly, he even brought me packets of Fairmont tea as he noticed I brought my own tea. He even put a vase of flowers on the table when I commented the first day "no rose?". I was very thankful for the early check in, that was most helpful and appreciated. I don't understand why the Gold service doesn't have rooms with a better view. When I booked I was told if I wanted the view then I couldn't get the Gold. So I chose the view. Seems odd. I would stay at this particular hotel again but will never set foot in the Fairmont Royal York again, ever.

Lovely to stay in a hotel that takes pride in its history, but understands the rooms should have modern amenities. I didn't get a chance to read about security procedures to be sure, but it was a little concerning that it seemed anyone off the street could come in and use the elevators to go to the rooms.

We've been to Ottawa a few times and this was our first time staying in this property. I've heard so many good things about it. The greatest asset of this property is her staff. From the smiling doormen and valet drivers to the front desk people, and all the cleaning people we saw in the hallways, they were all nice. You can feel the rich history of this hotel. The updates to the rooms were ok. We found the old bathroom doors to stick, especially during a shower. We were disappointed that a sauna, hot tub, or steam room were not part of the hotel. I think that as a family, it was a bit over our price range, given the lack of amenities found in other more modern hotels.

Check-in process was ok; we were left waiting for about 5 minutes, but it's understandable when there is a wave of people checking in / out. We were disgusted to find a rag sitting on the leather chair by the desk that was presumably left behind by either the previous occupants or the cleaning staff. Slamming doors was a bit of an issue (pneumatic hinges would have solved this to a large extent), but that's to be expected to a certain degree when the hotel dates back to the time of the Titanic. Loved the latitude of welcome drinks available, given that we got none at the Chateau Frontenac, and we were limited in our selection at the Queen Elizabeth. The soap tray design is God-awful, as the hotel-provided soap will easily fall through the gaps. The fitness room was well-furnished. We were sad to hear that there was no Fairmont store. Although the service was generally good (with some minor issues), there wasn't the over-and-above that we'd experienced previously and come to expect with a prestige brand such as Fairmont. Wi-fi was hit and miss, and there were definite wi-fi "dead zones" in the room. I personally like the hotel and its proximity to all the sights of Ottawa; my wife was nonplussed by what she experienced (dirty rag, slamming doors, lack of Fairmont store, service level). On a separate note, if I may - in my humble opinion, the one of the worst business decisions that the Fairmont brand recently made was doing away with the Fairmont President's Club program (or more specifically, allowing it to be merged into the AccorHotels program). A lot of what my wife was willing to tolerate in terms of staying at a Fairmont property was on the knowledge that there were brand-specific benefits that could be accumulated and redeemed. Now that the loyalty program is no longer specific to Fairmont, and because the quality of the benefits have taken a step back compared to what Fairmont used to offer, our decisions surrounding selecting travel accommodations will now revert to basic financial considerations, and since there are many properties that have alternatives both within and outside the AccorHotels umbrella that cost less (and in some cases, significantly less), the likelihood of us staying at a Fairmont property - while not zero, still won't be very high. In particular, my wife has placed the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth on her personal blacklist, given the issues we faced there (don't worry, for all the issues I've raised above, our complaints of the FQE are far worse - so FCL is currently not on her blacklist). Thank you for giving me this opportunity to provide feedback. I hope your brand will re-consider the move away from the Fairmont President's Club program (although I suppose it might be too late for that now).

Foyer and hotel was beautiful. rooms were subpar. ice machine was broken there was a leak in the ceiling in the hallway quite an eyesore. expected more of the rooms. dust on all the furniture and wine bottles. late night menu was limited in options and could be improved. water bottles very over priced . decor was outdated and bland in rooms.
