Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chateau Laurier for Winterlude. The service on the gold floor was great, staff were feiendly and helpful. The room was lovely and spacious, the floor very quiet. My only complaint is with the valet service: long line blocking road, chaotic, no direction from valet, and other customers were angryfrom long wait, a frustrating situation.

The Chateau location is very convenient. Being able to open the windows is important. The hotel bathrooms are impossibly small and now after the renovation they are quite inadequate. There is no counter space. the light switch is on the outside wall and the light when turned on disrupts anyone sleeping. Removing the bath tubs in the Fairmont Gold rooms was a huge loss. The new 4th floor lounge works well and the breakfast is beautifully setup. The decor in the lounge, rooms and lobby is drab and dated. The renovation and refurbishing is disappointing after so much time and money spent on it. The old rooms worked better and otherwise looked the same.

« My stay was once again very good. But a few little changes would of made it perfect. »

I stay at the Ottawa Fairmont once a year for a romantic get away not too far from home (Montreal). My overall experience was very nice and I would recommend this hotel (if booking a larger room cause some of the basic rooms are too tiny). My deluxe room was clean, was available when I checked in at 11:00, was comfortable with a good temperature. I was also permitted to check at at 1:00 instead of 12:00 which was greatly appreciated. What could of been improved: -I was given a handicaped room and would of liked to be informed at check-in if this was acceptable to me. -When having martinis at the bar (pricey as in any hotel bar :)) I was not served nibbles. -I was missing coffee pods (had 3 instead of 4) and we really enjoy our two coffees each in the morning when we stay at a Fairmont. -For the first time ever when staying at the Chateau Laurier I could hear my neighbours ( a familly with small children) through the walls. Not cool.

Aside from the Gold Floor, which has retained its staff that remember the customers, are experienced and have accountability: - A majority of staff at the front desk were untrained and incapable of problem solving. e.g. The front desk night manager, yelled at me and spoke back to me when I was disatisfied with the quality of so-called "renovated" rooms. - Poor customer CRM. I have been using the Chateau Laurier for years. e.g. My family have a business in Ottawa. I typically stay in a Gold floor but did no know that the room I booked "a luxury room" was not what I typically stay in. - Renovated rooms are not up to 4 star standard. e.g. The furniture is big, bulky, old and very dirty looking. E.g. Rooms at Marriott, Hilton, Sharaton, Westin and other 4 star brands are at a significantly higher level. - when I called to speak to the front desk manager before my stay, the central receptionist took two minutes asking many questions until she eventually put me through. e.g. I have been trying to convince my family to set up a corporate rate and told the front desk manager that I had finally convinced my brother and sister in law to stay to make him aware. Our business would have guaranteed a minimum of 150 days. Last weekend alone we did at least 30 nights at another hotel. After this stay they do not want to do it.

« Quality of service you expect from a motel. »

It was the most unpleasent 4 star hotel experience i had ever had. I was not provided what i was promised. On the phone i was promised a room with hill view on a high floor, but i had to go through 3 rooms and a lot of argument to get a 2nd floor room with a city view. The case was not that a room with a view was not available but the front desk just wanted to extort more money for it. The room i had was also not clean, even to a visible standard. There were long strands of hair in the bath tub. I have seen tricks and levels this low only at motels when you need to make an emergency stop and that is the only option around. I travel a lot and being a federal gov employee my trips are always paid for. I will make sure i tell the people i know to avoid the fairmont when they travel to ottawa.

« Noise was terrible on the first night. The valet parking in and out experience was poor- positive room experience »

I received notification of the additional time required to access the valet parking but even that was woefully underestimated. At the end of the day I couldn’t get my car in off the road because the driveway was blocked. After being told to wait 45min for my car I waited 75min before presenting myself at the desk and I was not even acknowledged. The staff were responding to individuals who came to the desk in a priority basis and my phone call in advance (which was what was requested) was ignored.

The staff were very warm and welcoming and the hotel is magnificent with beautiful decor. Staying at the hotel has you feel like royalty and I would love to stay at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier for every visit to ottawa! Love Zoe’s lounge. Had fabulous wine, deserted and cheese plates. Room service was quick and servers friendly and kind. The one small issue I encountered was the noise in my room as the building is very old, clearly walls are thin. I could hear every word and grunt from the neighbours next door.
