« Avoid the Chateau Laurier - it's a rip-off. »

Even the cheapest hotels today provide FREE high-speed wifi Internet connection, while yours is charged and only works intermittently. Likewise, for $450 one should at least receive complimentary newspaper, water, etc. And my room service dinner was clearly re-warmed rubbery pasts and dried-up meatballs, which explains why it arrived within ten minutes of ordering. I will never stay at the Chateau Laurier again, and am looking askance at other Fairmont hotels. I am advising my colleagues and friends to do likewise.

« Beautiful accommodations and great service @ Wilfred’s »

It was a busy time given Rememberance Day, but I felt the service at the checkin was just ok. I checked out via phone when I called for valet and they said they would email the receipt, which I never received so needed to call back to get it a few days later. The accommodations are beautiful and even though Zoe’s lounge was closed, Wilfred’s was exceptional at filling in. Great service there!

Superb service was received by all hotel personnel that we had contact with.

« Great, but a few shortcomings »

Room very comfortable, staff were delightful, and the conference arrangements worked very well. Wifi could not support my business needs. Did not appreciate no replacement milk in my room after day 1 as I did not have the time to chase this up, and was therefore unable to have a coffee or tea in my room while working.

Beautiful hotel but there were a few things that prevented me from rating my experience a perfect 10. My key card was faulty. I didn’t find it easy to open the door to enter my room. It should work on a tap but instead it took several attempts to get that green light. The door in the bathroom wouldn’t lock - Room 566. The mini bar, all that was available for water were large size bottles that cost $10.17. Expensive for a bottle of water. Perhaps have smaller ones that can fit into my bag - more convenient. Maybe even consider complementary bottles of waters seeing that a nights stay cost approx $300.

« Horrible communication amongst staff causes confusion »

The overall experience was aweful, and if I’m honest, the booking / checkout staff ruined it for the rest. All the service staff (restaurant, concierge, valet) seemed to really have their heart in their jobs, whereas the reception staff didn’t seem to care. In fact, they even insinuated that some other guests lied or didn’t do the “proper thing” when communicating his intentions to them, when I know for a fact he did, and the message simply wasn’t transmitted between the staff. My room was adequate (decor, cleanliness, etc was good) but the halls smelled like a retirement home, and paint was peaking off the ceiling in noticeable areas. I have to say, I hope paint pealing off the ceiling in a guests room is a new low for the chateau Laurier. The pealing paint signifies lack of detail and lack of care really - it’s such an easy issue to correct. The other problem was sound insulation, there was sound like a party was going in in one of the halls until at least 1am... though it didn’t prevent me from sleeping, it was a bit bothersome. The chateau is such a prestigious place and I was honoured I had the opportunity to stay there... but after staying at the hotel, apart from its prime location, it doesn’t have much going for it. I will definitely look to Air B&B for a better experience in the future.

« Great - except for the shower »

The only issue was the shower. I arrived after midnight wanting a warm shower yet the temperature oscillated between the extremes of kettle hot to glacial cold. I was able to figure out the facet function yet despite trying all combinations for 10 minutes or so, was not able to get to a reasonable temperature. Evening shower was not therefore possible.

A wonderful experience in general. Staff were all very helpful and pleasant to deal with. Two things kept this from being a 10 ... Zoe's was under renovation and the Gold Lounge breakfast was either running out of choices or some hot offerings had been removed well before the posted closing time.

« Satisfying »

Best asset are your people. The gentleman who meet me at the front door was fantastic. He set the tone for my stay. He was friendly and very helpful. I was quickly checked in, however the gentleman did not pronounce my name properly. Staff on the 4th floor were great they looked after all my business needs. Altogether my stay was extremely satisfying

« Elegant »

My stay with the chateau Laurier was very nice. Beautiful property and being that I am in the military and in Ottawa for the national Remeberance Day ceremony a prime location. And will definitely be staying there again next year. Thank you.

« Friendly welcoming staff! »

The check-in staff were efficient and friendly. A pleasant surprise when a birthday surprise arrived in our room. Updated room very nice but lacks largely in functionality. Upgrade to hill view not worth it. Condensation on windows prevented up from seeing out of them. Regret upgrade!

« The Chateau Laurier is a hotel with great personality and excellent service. »

Too bad that the bar was being renovated, but the temporary arrangements were fine. My room was good, even if it overlooked nothing, and the stay was enjoyable from beginning to end.

« A difficult start, but a fine ending. »

I had requested adjoining rooms. I was told that adjoining rooms could not be guaranteed in any room category. I chose to reserve two deluxe rooms, made clear that adjoining rooms were a high priority for me, and trusted Fairmont to do what it could to make sure my expectations were met. When I called ahead on the date of my check-in, I was told that I could not have adjoining Deluxe Rooms -- but that I could have adjoining Fairmont rooms. I agreed to switch to Fairmont rooms. But I am disappointed that Fairmont did not call me proactively to make me this offer. Your staff knew that my highest priority was to secure adjoining rooms, and you knew you had adjoining Fairmont rooms at the hotel where we were staying -- but you never bothered to make the connection. Had I not taken the time to call ahead, I might well have missed the change to have even adjoining Fairmont rooms. So I do not feel at all that Fairmont Chateau Laurier had my best interests at heart. In the end our stay was very good -- the rooms were spacious and hotel staff were very attentive and helpful. But I remain unsure that I can trust the Fairmont reservations service to make sure my needs are met.

« Pretty good »

It was great except the water pressure in the shower was terrible. I appreciate it's an old building and there may not be a way to fix this, but I wouldn't stay at this property again bc of the shower.

« Beautiful location and hotel! »

Very quite, good privacy. The only complaint was we waited for 55min for our car with the valet service.

« Disappointing room and service in makeshift Zoe's »

We love the hotel, but as a Presiden't Club Elite member, I was promised and then not given a room upgrade, and the rooms we had was not great. Bathroom tile was chipped away and need repair. Also, our server in Zoe's, a yound short-haired blonde fella, was slow and borderline dismissive, rude. Not a great stay. And $46 for valet parking? Give me a break. My wife and I don't get to do this very often, and little things could make it special. You need to try harder. I own a luxury travel company and use 5-star hotels often--what you are doing is not good enough.

« From check-in to check-out my wife and I felt at home and among friends. »

We were very please with the service and friendly atmosphere. The Chateau in itself is an experience, but without caring, friendly, polite and courteous staff that experience would be tarnished. Thanks to your staff we enjoyed our stay, although brief, and will continue to make trips to the Chateau Laurier when ever we can.
