Had a lovely room and check in was easy. For some odd reason I didn't get my exercise clothes and the received the wrong amenity. Still, The Chateaux Laurier is my fave hotel and the staff are great.

My husband and I are frequent guests to Fairmont Chateau Laurier. It's still our favourite hotel in Ottawa, but I hope our future stay will be better than the one last one in October. Here's what happened: Fairmont, being a new Accor Hotel member, has given us several upgrade vouchers. We decided to upgrade to Jr. Suite for our October booking. My husband and I have stayed at the Presidential Suite before and we also stayed at the Deluxe Room in the past. So we're aware of the few amenities guests get from those rooms. Our Jr. Suite room (room 669) was dark, but that's not the hotel's fault because that's the way the building was laid out. I was fine with that. However, I was not fine to realize that the complimentary bottled water that we once found in Deluxe room and Presidential Suite, was nowhere to be found in this Jr. Suite room. And there was also no complimentary slippers. So basically, the only thing we got by upgrading to Jr. Suite was a bigger, darker room. I swear we would have chosen to stay in our favourite room (652 or 650) had we known this was the case. When we stayed at Chateau Laurier last October, my husband and I just came back from a week's stay in Machu Picchu in Peru. We stayed at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge the whole time. The amenities at Belmond Sanctuary was just impressive! We were given unlimited supply of bottled water, slippers, bedtime chocolate truffles, complimentary cheese/fruit plate one day and complimentary chocolates/fruit the other day. Then as we were checking out, the concierge even gave us a couple of souvenir gifts, which we found very thoughtful and much appreciated. Yes, I do understand that Belmond's rate is WAY higher than Chateau Laurier's and I don't expect Chateau Laurier to give the same amenities. But 2 bottles of water in the Jr. Suite is not a lot to ask, is it? I truly hope I'm not being unreasonable by expecting to find complimentary bottled water inside a Jr. Suite even if we were there via complimentary upgrade. I don't know if the Jr. Suite was entitled to the free breakfast and hors d'oeuvres offered at the Gold Floor but even if our room was, it wouldn't matter because we booked the Bed & Breakfast package. So, one piece of advice I can give is, it would please guests to find a couple of complimentary bottled water in their rooms. Bottled water doesn't cost much and if Fairmont can put a couple of bottles in EVERY room, the hotel may even get a huge discount from some distributor. Or, if the hotel wants to save the planet from plastic wastes, then have a pitcher of ice-cold water available on every room, on the first night. I would definitely appreciate that and I'm sure there are other guests who will also appreciate the gesture. One other thing. In the past, I always get an online invitation to check-in and check-out online. I didn't get any of those this time. I did mention it to the lady at the check-in counter and she said she made a note of it and forwarded it to her supervisor.

In comparison with past experiences... Ottawa makes the same mistakes and falls short of other Fairmount experiences in Montreal and Vancouver. I am not sure I would stay in Ottawa Fairmount again.

Based on the amount of money spent for my stay other locations like the Hilton Hotel offer much more accommodation on sight but most importantly in the hotel room itself. I loved the historic part of the hotel but the room/pool was very outdated.

Good stay but had problems with the toilet plumbing and in-room heater. I had to call engineering staff each night before I went to bed to let air out of the unit before the heater would function.
