« Not what i expected at the Plaza or a Fairmont »

I wanted to share that our stay was less than expected this weekend. I have not been at the Plaza New York since 2004 and was really looking forward to our stay this weekend. Arriving on Friday morning it was wonderful that your staff could accommodate us for an early check in, but the feeling at check in could have been the same as a Comfort Inn. The front desk seemed not 100% present, no welcoming hello and the hotel felt like a ghost town. We asked the front desk to make change so we could tip the bellman, and they asked us to come back as they had no cash on hand. When we did come back 30 minutes later it was still an issue to make change for a $20. We found this experience odd. Typically as a President’s Club member we have exercise gear in room for use. Nothing was provided till day 2, even though it was requested before check in last week. Hotel dining and bar service was not an option and a major disappointment as we usually love breakfast in room our first morning with the paper, and enjoy a night cap cocktail. Neither of which we had a chance to experience. There was a note and fruit provided in room from the service director on day 2, but the fruit was not ripe enough to eat. We realize now that there was some major labor disputes happening on premise, that affected service, but we were not even notified until less than 24 hours before we checked in (after 5pm pst time). Had we known there was major issues, we would have moved to another hotel, as the lack of service and luxury was apparent during our weekend stay. We did not feel as though there was even a simply hello when entering the hotel, nor extra special guest amenities or luxurious accommodations provided, as one would expect at a Fairmont hotel. Moreover we were disappointed that no one even made an attempt to check on us as guests, possibly offering a room upgrade for the inconvenience, a complimentary cocktail once the bar service was in order, or gesture when checking out. It definitely has made us think twice about coming back to this hotel on our next visit to New York. I felt it was only fair to share our thoughts as we were disappointed guests leaving what once was one of the greatest hotels in New York.

I am a Fairmont Gold Member and also have stayed several times at the Plaza in the last 2 years. I’ve had lovely upgrades and great services. This past experience, my sister and I were placed in a VERY basic room and then, after requesting another room were placed in a better but not good room. We went down to the Diningroom and, although our server was doing her best (she was alone in the room) we waited 40 minutes to get a drink and another 1/2 hour for her to return to tell us that you didn’t have that wine choice after all. Things went downhill from there so we checked out the next morning and stayed at The Pierre for the remainder of the 3 days.

Dear Sirs, I had booked 6 nights at Plaza Hotel to stay with my wife as it was our 25 years wedding anniversary. Due to the reasons I am sure you know, this experience was really disappointing. NO SERVICE at all, NO cleaning our suite because "they told us they could not use Even the vacuum cleaner". NO restaurant , NO bar opened, so after 3 nights we asked to be moved to Four Seasons . The only "reimbursemnt " we got was 1 night free at Four Seasons. Is this the "standard" service at Fairmont Hotels ? Did I fly from Dubai -via Italy to stay at THE PLAZA and got 1 voucher for a free breakfast in a very poor location outside the hotel ? Did I fly to NY for staying at THE PLAZA and after 3 days I had to re-pack my luggages ? Therefore I leave it up to you any kind of reimbursement , if FAIRMONT Co. really takes care about their Customers. « The Castle on 5th Avenue »

The Plaza is every bit an American icon as the “purple mountain majesties” and “the amber waves of grain.” The unparalleled service, the luxurious accommodations, and the patina of a more gracious age create for any visitor a memorable experience. Although challenged by a labor dispute not of the Plaza’s doing, the staff never missed a beat. Especially thoughtful was the advance communication advising us of the situation and the genuine effort to minimize its impact on the guests. This is what customer service is all about and what we have come to expect of the Fairmont brand.

Having stayed in numerous luxurious hotels worldwide, I thought that The Plaza Hotel would top off all hotels. Having said that i was fairly disappointed. Upon arrival we were informed that the kitchen was closed of till Monday, therefore no breakfast / lunch and dinner can be served. The cleaning staff are uneducated. Not mentioning, leaving white plastic bags full of dirty linen infront of the door. We had a problem with the air conditioning system. Called 3 times for someone to come over and check it. When the maintenance person appeared he adjusted it to one setting and to be quite honest we ended up freezing. not to mention the dirt from the air filters. On the other hand the reception staff / concierge and bellboys where all so helpful and well educated. For a hotel like The Plaza you have a lot to learn from leading hoteliers like The Dorchester.

We were not advised prior to coming about the lack of any restaurant or room service, this disrupted our plans especially as we had booked due to a family wedding on 27 April and the happy couple were moved to another hotel, when we checked in we were informed that the issue would be resolved by the next day- it was still not resolved when we left 6 days later!

This was a dream hotel for us to stay in and we were quite excited prior to arrival. This dream ended when arrived to find out the entire food and beverage program had walked out the day earlier. The welcome amenity was a welcome surprise and that’s about it. I will add that the gym facilities were fantastic however with all steam rooms and relaxation areas out of service this was an added disappointment. Breakfast was unavailable on our first morning so we ventured out but was provided across the street at 8 1/2 for our second morning which was a nice gesture that fell flat. A selection of fruit yogurt and bagels for which they had no toaster!? and the hassle by security in the building to get it after breakfast was quite ridiculous. This did lead us however to the lower level food court which became the highlight of our stay at the plaza- the main questions was why the hotel hadn’t told us of this when they said all good and beverage associated with the hote and property were shut down!!? All in all a lifelong dream to stay here kinda fell flat to what our expectations of “the plaza” would be.

I spent upwards of $1,000 on a suite and found out that none of the dining amenities were available. I had planned on entertaining clients at the bars for most of the evening and was pretty embarrassed and had to make other arrangements.

« A very difficult week at the Plaza »

We were there for the week from hell. A day of no hot water. The week kitchen and food services went on strike or whatever they want to call it. Management did an excellent job communicating with guests regarding status of interruptions, and made every effort to keep it pulled together. We have stayed at The Plaza many times in past, so we will consider this stay to be an exception to the norm.

« Disappointing »

First there was a weird UV machine in our room, then there was no hot water for a day, then I called for hair conditioner because the cleaning people had put hand lotion in the shower and it took two additional calls and 45 minutes to get the conditioner, then the hotel rain out of food/water and instead of bringing in basic food for guests, were told to go out and find a restaurant. charging for basic internet access in 2018...not appropriate.

If not for the Consierge Desk, we would have wandered aimlessly around the streets of New York. Because of their excellent knowledge and abilities we were guided through an eventful 5 days of activities and meals. They made all of our reservations for exactly what we were looking for and they sent us reminders on a daily basis of our planned and reserved events.

« Subpar service due to labor issue »

I was told of the labor issue when I was checking in at 7pm. I didn’t have many other good options at that point. It wasn’t a big issue that I couldn’t get dinner. The food hall was helpful. But I couldn’t get my shoes shined and it took more than an hour to get water delivered to my room after 2 requests. Not having the breakfast available proved to be a bigger problem. The free offering across he street was minimal. I’d rather pay and have the convenience to have a full breakfast on site or in my room. Not the plaza experience I’m used to.
