There were a number of disappointments which I will mention here. Our granddaughter stayed in our room and used the sofa sleeper. The morning after the first night she told me that there had been sand in the sheets at the bottom of the bed. Since I had to go to the front desk anyway, I mentioned it to them and they said they would have housekeeping change the sheets. Fortunately I was in our room (752) when housekeeping was just finishing up and I asked if they had changed the sheets. She looked at her notes and said nobody had told her anything about that but she would do it right away, which she did. That is poor management with no follow-up to my conversation with the front desk. The ladies room closest to the Kea Lani restaurant should be monitored more frequently. When i used it at around 10:30AM there was no toilet paper in one of the two stalls, there were no longer any cloth towels for wiping ones hands and there was no soap in the dispenser on the right sink. I'm sure that restroom is busiest in the morning and that reflects poorly on operations. During breakfast a number of our family members like to have the miso soup. On two separate occasions it was empty and i had to get someone to refill it. I mentioned that there were also no soup spoons and was told to go where the cereal was to get a spoon, instead of them saying that they would bring them out right away. Either nobody monitors food to replace it or else, since Accor took over, there are not enough personnel to handle the volume. It can get very busy at breakfast time with lots of people in there at the same time so personnel need to continually check to see what needs replacing. We always get two cabanas. The service in the cabanas was perfect, but the food service was not. On one of our orders they forgot to include the celery sticks. They also forgot to bring utensils on several occasions. They seemed disorganized and we were never sure exactly how our order would arrive. Because a number of our family are very sensitive to the sun we need the protection of the cabanas. However, since the velcro no longer works to keep the drapes closed there are now clips to do that. But, the drapes do not completely meet when using the clips so the sun still comes in and it is difficult to avoid. There must be something better that can be used to get complete closure to keep out the sun.?? We were hanging towels on the clips to block out the sun but that wasn't completely effective either. In our room I noticed that the two bolster pillows put on the bed for decor, were extremely dirty. I forgot to check the other two rooms to see if they were also (rooms 754 and 742). I would rather have no pillows than dirty ones. None of these things I have mentioned will keep us from coming again but I do wonder if Accor is trying to hold down costs. Are there less personnel to cover the same number of guest? In years past we haven't had these kinds of experiences.

Service, amenities and activities were amazing. The condition, decor and appearance of the room was horrible-tired, run down and old. Nothing I would expect from a luxury hotel! ROOMS NEED TO BE UPADTED! We are planning a trip to Maui again in two years and I would love to return to this property but will not if the rooms are not redone !

We were celebrating my wife's birthday. Everyone at the Fairmont was a pleasure to interact with and the hotel and it's grounds are beautiful. There are 2 people I would like to highlight who made what was already an excellent vacation even better. Beau and Cyrus from Nick's. They were excellent at their jobs and made our dining experiences at Nick's that much more enjoyable.

Our room was amazing with an incredible view (602). Beach service was spotty. They drove the jeep around to pick up towels on the beach way too much. They seemed to be doing it for fun instead of any valid reason. Had to wait in line twice - once to check out an umbrella and once to actually get the umbrella. Also at $1000 a day for a room I wouldn't expect them to run out of umbrellas. Also no policing of empty lounges - Often there were more empty lounges with umbrellas than lounges with people. We tipped $10-$20 dollars a day for umbrella set up and were disappointed with the level of service. This is why I consider this a 4 star and not 5 star hotel. I understand you cant serve food at the beach, but there should be a better system than ordering at the bar and waiting 1/2 hour for food to be ready for take-out. Perhaps electronic ordering or a food stand on the grass, closer to the beach.

Amazing stay. Staff is fantastic. Concierge staff & activities can not be beat. Restaurant experiences were great. Loved the pool and beach areas / processes. Internal things like carpets & paint could use a refresh... otherwise perfect!!!
