Overall the stay was ok. The food was pretty bad. For the caliber of hotel, the caliber of food was pretty awful. In room dining which we had twice, dinner at KO, and one meal at Ama bar and grill was all universally bad. Fish for mahi mahi and opah were over cooked, bland and really fishy which made us wonder if the fish was fresh. We had to complain to the waitress the last meal at Ama before we decided to eat out the rest of the time. How come even a small place like Maui tacos put the food at the Fairmont to shame (as did cafe o lei, coconut, threes bar and grill, and lava rocks)?

« Nice accommodations and location, need more enmities and flexibility on child menu. »

Overall it was really great. The only challenging part was with a 2 year old I didn’t think it was fair at all that in room dining had a cost but eating at a restaurant at the hotel was free. I needed the flexibility for my little guy to be tired and still get food. I could have dragged him to a restaurant to get it for free but that would have been stressful for me and possibly other guests around me.

« over priced. »

your hotel was very busy, spring break families. I should of not booked during that period but my fault. I was never told of an additional hotel tax. So, after paying over $1,000 per night, and a $40 resort fee, I was charged over $800 additional tax for a 7 night stay. Think about that, over $800 on my CC for nothing. Call it what you want but its just additional hotel profits. Shame on you. You'll never see my business again and I'll warn my friends about your gouging taxes.

« Nice Great on allergy diet!! »

We loved the facility, the pools, the room was large and comfortable; but, was near several 'working' areas and could be a little loud at times. I LOVED being able to eat at your hotel; very current on food allergies and wiling to make foods that I could eat. Thank you, Best every for dietary requirements! Would recommend and will go back.

« Wonderful location and staff »

I was disappointed there was construction 2 days that were pool days for us. I had called before booking and told there would be no construction, which helped me choose Fairmont over Four Season’s or others. I was told I would get a credit for the inconvenience but did not see it on my bill which was disappointing. It was a wonderful spot otherwise though.

« Fairmont failed us »

This was not the typical excellent experience with the Fairmont. there was sand in the sheets on the hideaway bed refrigerator was replaced 4x while we were there. it had a terrible oder. Don't think it was the refrigerator but something behind the refrigerator I named the toilet the 5 mississippi toilet because we literally had to hold the handle down for at least 5 seconds for it to flush There was an infestation of really small flies in the upper left hand corner of the curtain.(this resolved on its own.) However there were so many weird- strange bugs in the room. On our last night there when I was reading my book on my phone - a 1" bug landed on my phone twice (obviously attracted to the light on my phone). I can't make this S#@! up - it was totally gross. I just got out of the bed and slept out on the hideabed with my daughter. Actually I never went back to sleep - just waited patiently to get out of that room! While we were waiting in the lobby - there were 2 boys playing kick ball as people were walking by and staff working - NOT ONE person said a thing to the boys. Then the ball hit my daughter in the face. I said something to the boys which they just moved to the other side of the lobby. TERRIBLE! "Amy" in the restaurant bar by the lobby was SO rude, we should have just got up and left. I asked her a simple question about the craft cocktails and she sighed heavily for everyone to hear at the table and told me I "could read what they offer on the menu" and walked off. Luckily, a waitress named Chris cam to help us and we requested she continue to serve us. Lastly, might I suggest to upgrade the room 201? It is really needs updating. Check the sliding doors, the mismatched, thrown together furniture, the AC makes weird noises when turning on and off, etc. The room needs help.

« I thought that our experience was just "average" »

We have stayed at many Fairmont hotels throughout the world.....we were a bit dismayed at the physical appearance of the hotel and grounds, it looked "tired". The service was adequate but certainly not over the top. Ko Restaurant was very nice but Nick's Fish Market was not good at all. In general our experience was just "okay"

« The staff excels »

I took my daughter and two grandchildren to the Kea LAni over Easter break. We all had a very nice time. The beach is the best I’ve ever been to and the beach guys were happy to set up chairs and umbrellas. We rented cabanas for our stay and the service was very welcoming and attentive. My primary disappointment was the food. We were forced to have either room service or a ridiculously expensive breakfast buffet as the AMA restaurant is not open for breakfast. In addition, the menu at AMA was quite limited. Housekeeping was great, the suite was roomy, and the balcony was a wonderful place for breakfast. Room service was also very good. The star of the Kea LAni is the outstanding staff in all departments. The mermaid experience was pretty terrible and really expensive.

« It was ok-we’ve stayed better. »

The room was nice size. Initial view was disappointing but upon request we were moved. The pool area was WAY too full. Really need an additional pool. Also compared to thr multiple places we’ve stayed in maui -it wasn’t nearly as “fun.” Kiddie pool was boring, game room had a ping pong table-check out game room at the marriott in maui. Epic. It rained multiple days. Having no fun other spaces made this very difficult.

I was really disappointed with the check in process. Not only did I have to wait for a room until 4pm when there were other open rooms, the first room I was assigned was terrible. Barely any ocean view, extremely loud and basically in the pool. I was allowed to move to a higher floor but when I asked about upgrading as it was our honeymoon (not free, I offered to pay) I kind of got a run around. Your shuttle service, concierge, and staff were mostly outstanding, but we were unhappy with the room relative to what we thought we were getting with a suite.

« Pleasant stay »

We had a nice trip overall, but will likely look at other hotels for future stays. The location is great and our villa was well equipped, but when on vacation, I want to feel like we are treated well, especially when staying in a villa. For the first time at the Fairmont Kea Lani, I felt like I was just another tool for the hotel to make money. I suggest adding the resort charge, toy usage (e.g. boogie boards, pool ammenities, etc.), and gratuities into the room price. I also think the property needs some maintenance. Much of the community seating was in bad shape (e.g. beach chairs were worn out, seats in lobby were worn and frayed) and I don't think it represents the Fairmont brand very well.

« A week in almost paradise. »

WE loved the 2nd room we stayed in - 324 - lovely view and spacious. We love the suite concept - our adult daughters were with us a few days and the room configuration worked well. Lovely property, nice spa, fabulous massage, great beach fun and meals at Nick's and Ko were excellent. The bed was not terrific and the sheets not the best. The hallways to the rooms were a bit shabby. Food at pool restaurant was mediocre. Lobby floor common areas are beautiful. Lobby bar area very nice to drinks or for computer use in the morning. The "Business Center" is seriously inadequate. The Café/store is excellent. Our first room on the backside of the hotel with view of the neighboring condos was a bit depressing. But all in all we really had a lovely time and would return for sure.

« Build as exceptional, this hotel feel short of expectations. »

The location is as advertised. This is the perfect beachfront resort. However, the hotel's overall service was not first rate. I experienced problems with housekeeping on numerous days. It was enough to distract from what should have been a great babymoon.

we loved our stay. the team was extremely gracious, kind and positive. everyone we encountered was pleasant, helpful and wonderful. we loved our room and the onsite amenities. the hospitality suite, for guests who have already checked out but need to freshen up before heading home, is an amazing perk that made our journey home so much better.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 bedroom villa. Housekeeping was excellent- very attentive. We enjoyed all of the restaurants. Our only issue is that we were never able to get chairs to enjoy the pool, however the beach was amazing.

We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary which is where we got married on Makena Beach. The hotel is beautiful with fantastic appointed suites. Unfortunately our anniversary fell on the Easter weekend which included an overwhelming number of families and children of all ages. So needless to say the noise level and crowdedness was a little over the top for us. Having said that your front desk representative Lilianne recognized this and assisted us with finding another room not located directly over the family pool area.
