« Not what I expected from a 4 star hotel »

Overall the experience was mediocre with several disappointments. I ordered a rollaway bed when I made the reservation on the phone. When I arrived there was no rollaway bed in the room. I asked the bellman if he could check on it and after several hours still no bed. After no response to my inquiries, my son finally slept on the sofa bed in which the mattress was very stiff and thin and extremely uncomfortable. Additionally, we asked for pillows and a blanket for the sofa bed. After repetitive calls, we finally received the pillows but no blanket. Very disappointed to say the least since We stayed in the Houston Suite and I am a President's Club member. Additionally, I ordered fitness wear for me, and my son (who is also a President's Club member). My clothes were in the suite, but my son's fitness clothes were not. We stayed four nights on the 16th floor and on the weekends, we had to have the water run for about 6 minutes before it was warm enough to take a shower. So, is this the new Fairmont with the association of Accor? Honestly, I think a 2 star hotel would have been more receptive to my requests than the Fairmont, and that is so sad. Details do matter. A major hotel change once had a motto....the best surprise is no surprise. You expect high quality service and follow-through to simple requests from a 4-star hotel. You did not deliver unfortunately. On a positive point, the breakfast buffet was good but very pricey for the Dallas area. I was celebrating the arrival of my new grandson, and it was very nice that the staff took the time to write a brief congratulatory note and included a stuffed bear in a gift bag....a very nice touch and much appreciated. Since my new grandson, daughter, and son-in-law live in Dallas, I will be making numerous trips to Dallas each year, and other travels due to my recent retirement. I have stayed at other Fairmont properties over the recent years (Washington DC, Chicago, Hawaii, and Banff), but this was first time since the changeover in ownership. As you can see, something has changed, and unfortunately, it is not for the best. Unfortunately, you have lost a loyal customer. Dr. Steven M. H.

« Lovely Anniversary Trip »

For several years back in the 1990s I spent every Thursday night in Dallas on business and at The Fairmont. When we planned a trip to Dallas to attend the symphony to celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary, The Fairmont was our only choice. It was wonderful to return and see the hotel still going strong. All of the staff was most helpful and welcoming. I particularly want to thank Kyle Fricke. When there was an issue with a Fairmont gift card he absolutely took charge, found out the problem, and got it resolved. And it took him a lot of work and several days. He was wonderful!

OK. Room size was good. Gym was ok. Hotel lobby was quite cold. Restaurant service was good. Bar service was okay. Prefer earlier maid service: One day the room was not cleaned until almost 4pm despite having called around 2 and gone to the front desk around 3.

The front desk personnel and the concierge desk were friendly and helpful, greeting us as we walked the lobby. The restaurant food and service were excellent.

The staff was friendly. Location was convenient. The smell of the room as overpowering when you walked in. There were holes in the sheets. The bathroom fixtures weren't in great shape.

We were there for a dance convention. The location to ballrooms and rooms were conveniently accessible. We also appreciated the special menu provided for our families at reasonable prices. The only issue I had was the outrageous prices in gift shop. I purchased hairspray for $13.00 poor quality.

This is out 10th year visiting Dallas for Thanksgiving. We have always been given a room in the Gold section. This year, we were in a lower floor with no access to the lounge. We were told that the upper floors were undergoing a renovation. I would have appreciated knowing in advance before booking. The restroom needed update and it was very small. I was even disappointed that our room did not have the usual bathrobes and slippers. The room was also muggy. The people who work there are wonderful as always. I would have really had a better experience if we had been offered better accommodations when I raised my concerns.

Highlight: The concierge staff is friendly and eager to please, although completely disempowered to correct issues Low-lights: Where to start? First night, arrived at room after a long day and one of the beds was soaking wet with a mystery liquid - the linens and the mattress. Immediately informed the operator and was told someone would be up shortly to address the issue. 45 minutes later, someone from Engineering arrived, spent 15 seconds in the room and left without a word. Called back down 15 minutes later to inquire what the plan was and was told that there was nothing that could be done because Housekeeping had left for the day. At this point, we were desperate to get the kids to bed, so I marched down to the lobby and was able to get the room swapped with the front desk (no assistance with moving our bags was provided or offered). Next evening, after another long day, had dinner delivered to hotel from a local favorite and stopped by hotel restaurant for plates and silverware. Was rudely provided with the tableware that I requested...and I immediately returned them because they were absolutely filthy. Went back up to room and called down to ask Guest Services to send up tableware and was cheerfully told that they would promptly. An hour later, I called down to check status and was told that I would have to wait longer because Room Service was short staffed. An hour and 30 minutes to get plates and silverware....must be a first at any hotel. Will spare the details on all of the issues with the valet staff and the poor quality of the food.

1. My welcome amenity was available through the aeroplan diamond offering 2. My room upgrade was provided 3. Fairmont fit was available (albeit the shoe size I needed was not). Breakfast as always was fantastic. Dinner at the bar was also top notch. Well done Fairmont Dallas team!
