« disappointed »

what a great property. We walked in the hotel and were very impressed. We had booked a river view for our wedding anniversary. After checking in we went to the room only to find a view of the roof with the river far beyond that (I believe it was room 332 or 335 or something like that). I went back to the front desk and had to wait until 5:30pm (almost two hours) to get a room with an actual river view. Once in the room it was great but the delay in getting the room and not getting the room until well after 4:00pm ruined the entire stay. I felt like a second class customer and was very disappointed. The plan was to relax in the room for an hour or two and then walk the grounds before dinner at the top end restaurant. I stay in hotels 60 nights a year and have not felt this mistreated in years. I will probably come back to the area but will stay in a different hotel.

« Disappointing based on the hotel's renown. »

Arriving at the hotel we were surprised that a $300 per night hotel room didn't provide easy access free parking. Sure there is free parking but in our case Parking 7 I believe meant we had to negotiate 121 stairs to get to and from our car. Luckily I am in good physical shape and picked up my wife in front of the hotel when we needed the car. I witnessed several customers taking more than one break at different levels before reaching the top. When we first arrived I took out all our luggage and left it on the curb. I then went for a cart to bring everything to our room but was refused access to the cart by the porter who said the carts were only to be used by them. So I was denied the cart because I refused to use a porter! Biting my tongue I grabbed all my luggage and made my way to the 4th floor. Once in the room another disappointment! There was no closet to hang our clothes, just a small shelf in the night table. The room is very small with no fridge, unless you want to use the hotel dispenser for drinks and snacks. The room comes with a Nespresso espresso machine with 6 capsules. If you like 2 gulps of coffee per serving in the morning this is perfect for you. Not so much for me! The bathroom is clean but small. The toilet wasn't affixed properly to the floor so it wiggled every time you sat on it. The bed was comfortable although it was at best queen size. We didn't use the AC because the nights were cool. The room does come with two free water bottles. On the positive side this is a beautiful setting. The area is superb looking at over the St-Lawrence river and is well suited for pleasant walks. It is also located right next to a casino, if you are into that sort of thing, as well as close to a port if you are willing to navigate another 152 stairs. The pool area is great for the whole family and they do offer a nice gym. There is also a very nice golf couse if that is what you are looking for. We preferred eating out in town as opposed to the hotel restaurants. We found some great venues much more affordable than what was offered at the hotel. I have stayed at many hotels and resorts in my time and I can honestly say that there is much better places for a lot less money. Sure you don't get the same scenery in a lot of these places but I'm sure I could have stayed at a nearby B&B for a much better overall experience. Sadly we were looking forward to the experience but unfortunately it did not live up to our expectations.

« Beautiful location, clean fresh air. »

We thoroughly enjoyed our short visit and made use of the pools and mini-putt. The food was good everywhere, but outstanding at the Charlevoix restaurant. Staff super helpful as always. It would be nice if the bedroom windows opened just a bit further to get more of the fresh breeze from water.

« We would of prefered a room at Holiday Express. »

We were on our 15th year anniversary. My Chief approved for me to have a couple of days off to enjoy our anniversary. I am a Fire Prevention Officer and a career Flight Paramedic. When we ordered the room, it was supposed to be in front with a nice view of the St-Lawrence and a Jacuzzi. We were told no more rooms with a Jacuzzi was available . So we opted for just the room with a view of the St-Lawrence. After our check in, I asked to include breakfast buffet. We were given a room with the view of a flat roof and the back of a building. We complained and the desk personnel changed our room. We spent the night at the casino. When bed time arrived, the bed we were trying to sleep in was caving in the middle and very, very squeaky. It almost seemed like the bed was 20 yrs old with new sheets. We were exhausted and tried to sleep for the next hour or so and wasn't able to. I went downstairs to ask if we could change our room and that I was willing to pay for an upgrade to a suite if needed to. My sleep is very important as I am a shift worker. She told me that no upgrade room available. Then found a room 2 doors from where we were. At this point it is 3am. My wife was very upset and I spent the next hour to calm her down. We were able to sleep till 8-9am when the chambermaids made a lot of noise banging something around that woke us up from our much need sleep. I went downstairs to the front desk to see if I had to pick up any coupons for our breakfast. She told me that the room we were in did not include breakfast. I told her when we called, we specifically asked for a room with a Jacuzzi, view of the river for which wasn't available, got put in a room with a very bad view and during our check in we asked to include into our room charge a breakfast. At that point she said that there was rooms with Jacuzzis available. I started to walk away from the very frustrating experience and didn't wanted to make an embarrassing scene at the desk as there was a lot of people in the lobby. The font desk personnel asked that I come back and gives us the free breakfast. But at that point the frustration was already set in with he factor of being tired from our short sleep and being woken up. This was supposed to be our 15th anniversary and I wanted it to be nice as I work very hard for my money. Unfortunately our experience of the stay wasn't as memorable as we wanted too. We were disappointed, especially when leaving and noticing an hotel just down the block at half the price with nicer rooms in a modern setting. To say that to have the complete experience to have stayed in a very supposed to be luxurious hotel...this was not. What we should of done: -Stay overnight in a different hotel, and just visit your hotel, lobby. The breakfast was very good so we would of eaten there at le "Terroire"

« A Retro Holiday »

You don't really need to leave the hotel and it's exquisite grounds for a few days, explore and enjoy. Service is just okay but the place FEELS vacation in every way.

« Comfortable, well served by the hotel personnel, beautifull scenery, excellent installations »

Well served/pampered by the hotel personnel, always agreeable and very polite. The scenery was breath taking. The installations (dining rooms, pool, golf club, etc...) was top notch. In short it was a week of comfort and well served.

« Great staff, location! »

Enjoyed ambience of Le Manoir. Room quite small, but expected in old hotels. Disappointed in our meal at the Charlevoix restaurant. All other meals were excellent!

« Despite the rain, the stay was good.  »

We arrived in a torrential rain storm. The valet parking was wonderful. After making our way to reception, we were told that our room was not ready. This would have been around 5pm. We were asked to wait at the bar and given two complimentary drinks. Unfortunately, we had been driving for 9 hours and our 3 children were exhausted. The bar was not an option as we had our children with us. We waited about 15 minutes before being told our room was ready. The room was as expected, but at night time, we must have been directly above the lounge as we could easily hear the music from the room below. Our meals were wonderful. The food was superb and the service was very good. The rain hampered us from enjoying the outdoor facilities, with the exception of the outdoor pool. The children enjoyed both pools. They were clean and large enough for the guests who were there. Checking out was simple, although we had to question the bill as we were charged for the valet parking that we had been told was included in our stay.

« Beautiful place »

We enjoyed our riverview room very much. The hotel is lovely. When we checked into our room we found a plate with 2 decorated cupcakes, and a card addressed to Mr & Mrs G____. not us. I called the front desk and they sent someone up for the card, told us we could have the cupcakes... it was funny, but, a little weird.
