« "Not what it used to be" »

It was "OK" . The quality of this hotel has dropped-prices at the restaurant are very high and don't match the fare being offered. The Taboras restaurant menu is rather tired and we went off site to dine more than on previous visits. Previously I recall Hereford Sirloin Steak, Goat Curry ,etc and more choices. The hotel was redecorated recently. The Taboras restaurant should be knocked down and a new pool and restaurant built on the grassy area next to the existing pool. The gardens are still fabulous. The staff are good and Charlene on the conseige is excellent. The Palm Terrace is great and breakfast their was a treat. I remember when it was open most evenings and having the choice of casual dining by the bar or formal dining. Remember Joyce topping up the red wine at the Managers Cocktail Party... bet it does'nt happen thesedays.....-the entertainment was always "low key" but seems even lower key now. Don't like the old black and white movies projected on to the end of the south block -Did there used to be Banks beer on draught at the Taboras? no longer but there is at the Beach Club..... This was our fourth and last visit to Barbados-they (the politicians, the cost cutters, the up-sellers) need to be wary in case the no longer will pay the prices for an ordinary experience.

Sadly this year we felt a general feeling of malaise around the hotel. The staff were disengaged and flat which resulted in poor service. Breakfast was a nightmare due to the nuisance of black birds partly due to the lack of speed in clearing tables - and sometimes not clearing them at all. Most mornings not all the food was displayed (such as certain fruits) but no one seemed to care when we asked - most times we were met with a shrug. Not what we expect for what we pay to stay here. Beach service has always been inconsistent but this year was the worst. Certain staff did what they could to provide good service but they were in the minority and it was very noticeable that some staff did a great job of doing nothing. The constant changes in management has had an impact on staff and this year it was clear the management team are very depleted and weak. The room upgrades are ok, look good on the surface but have many flaws in practical use - e.g.A difficult to access full length mirror. This is not a cheap hotel but it's charm has always been it's relaxed style and friendly staff sadly this was missing this year which made it a very expensive holiday totally lacking any value. we had already decided we were unlikely to return next year due to this year's poor service and atmosphere but to hear that prices are increasing by 100% next year has made that decision easy - we won't be rebooking for 2019. Our long run at what was a special place is over.

Hands down, the best hotel we've ever been to! The truly picturesque view from the very classy and stylish room to the hotels facility, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. But all this wouldn't be the same without your excellent staff... As family with a little one (<2 years) we were overwhelmed by the warmth and genuine friendliness of everone we met. Special thanks to Michael and Shacolby for feeding the fishes with our little princess - her highlight! Simon Julian for having an eye on her (and us) whether in the pool or at the beach, Romario for taking us to the turtles and last but by no means least the wonderful Tawanda who is doing an exemplary job! « Fantastic position on beach, modernised rooms and wonderful staff »

Have visited RP many times now. It's USP has been it's unrivalled position on the beach together with the wonderful staff. The hotel has been in need of modernisation and the rooms have now been modernised to a good standard. Improvements have also been made to catering arrangements but the hotel continues to fail to attract guests (and non-guests) to use the dining facilities in the evening to the point that the main dining facility is more often than not withdrawn from use. This results in the hotel lacking atmosphere / vibrancy in the evenings and it appears to be a rut from which the hotel is unable to progress. The other dining facility, Café Taboras, is increasingly overrun by birds, particularly at breakfast and afternoon tea. and I understand that plans are in place to develop this area further to address this. We visited the adjacent hotel, Lone Star, for breakfast on a number of mornings to avoid this.

This trip started out slightly poor, the staff presumed that because we had booked through BA we were on a BA flight, but never checked, so we did not get the greeted fast track service offered, instead we were bundled into a very low quality dirty taxi When we arrived our room was not ready, and was not available until after 15:20, and although very nice, the answer to cover up this issue is not to keep plying the customer with rum punch, after being up since 0245 all we wanted was a shower and get changed. Everything after this was good, not a lot of visits from the butler, but good. Then came the penultimate day, where we were told we had to move rooms for the last day, i mean, come on!!! We later asked the staff to confirm the apparent electrical issue, as i had seen new aircon units being delivered and moved into place, which they then confirmed, so our argument would be, this is planned maintenance, you would have know this a while ago, so why put people in the room they booked in January knowing full well they would have to move. In the hotels defense, they did accommodate us for food that day, along with an airport transfer, and then later reimbursed the remaining meal bills, so we left quite happy

Very pleasing.The refurbishment has been very successful .The suites are so much brighter and welcoming and the push button shower I found super.No more juggling with knobs and taps. Your staff are lovely,so welcoming,so helpful.It's like meeting old friends each year. What's disappointing is the catering.The food is good,menus fine and we enjoy our meals there but the restaurants seem to lack atmosphere.I don't know how you put that on the menu. The beach and access to it must be the best on the west coast,we love the convenience. So we just go back to food and beverage .Wehate to see so many guests leave the hotel in the evening to dine elsewhere .Good luck.
